Campout With Me
США
Добавлен 9 окт 2017
Come join me on my extended weekend RV camping adventures in a little Lance 1575 travel trailer. It's just 15+ft inside, and just over 20ft tip to toe. With a fresh water tank of 26 gallons and a 5.5 Cu Ft fridge, my longest continuous dry camping/fully self contained trip so far was 10 full days, and yes, with showers every day!
Given time constraints with work, my trips are primarily destinations in and around Southern California, Arizona and Nevada. I typically walk/bike/drive thru campgrounds/locations where I stayed at. And often I'll including videos of road leading to the campground, so for those planning to visit, you'll know what to expect. And of course, highlights of activities/hikes near my base camp.

Kayak Antelope Canyon - Lake Powell, AZ
Thought I had uploaded this video but guess not. This was from my early summer camping trip. At the tail end of the trip, we stopped in Page, AZ and went kayaking on Lake Powell to the Lower Antelope Canyon.
We rented the wonderful paddle kayaks from PaddleLakePowell.com. Wonderful because you can use your feet to just "paddle". Its more like leisurely cruising on a bicycle. They are located in the Antelope Point Marina.
The trip into the canyon took about 30-40 minutes depending on how much you stop to take pictures! At the end of the paddle, there's a beach landing area where you can stop to rest and/or continue on a hike into the Lower Antelope Canyon. There's no limit on how deep you c...

Scenic Drive Down Moki Dugway (Returning from Natural Bridges National Monument)

Coming down on Moki Dugway, a graded but not paved road, zig zagging down, connecting Natural Bridges National Monument and Muley Point Overlook to the main highway below the Mesa. You don't need 4x4, most vehicles with good tires will have no problem navigating up or down in the dry. It is a step incline with switchbacks, so it is not suitable for vehicles towing a trailer.

Great video - thinking of going there next month. Can I ask what model travel trailer you have? Looks like a perfect size!
@@Josh-pn4qb That's a Lance 1575. I think overall nose to tail is 20 (or 21) ft. That size is big enough inside and small enough to fit into majority of campsite spots.
❤👍👍
Thank you! This video was so helpful!!
Was the GPS confused, it said "You have arrived to your destination on the left" but the campground is clearly on the right.
Good point, I had to go back and watch again! At 6:33 in the video, it did say turn right into Princess Campground, and then the destination will be on your left. I don't remember if i originally it a LAT/LON coordinate or a specific address. At least it did tell me to turn right into that road first 😂 I think i need to make a trip to go back up there in the spring like I suggested!
Thank you for the video. From the camping reservation site and Google maps, its hard to tell if I can fit my 5 X 10 trailer and Subaru in a spot. I wish they didn't block with boulders. Looking at spot 59. Nice job on showing how much space you have to park.
@gandalfthemead3121 Glad the video helped a little bit. Yes, the images on Recreation website are certainly less than desirable in most cases. I think they have the boulders there deliberately to prevent people from driving/backing into the campsites, especially when some campers invite more individuals than "allowed".
This is the nicest campground I’ve ever seen.
@@bessycorrales6405 Yes, often booked up 6 months is advance :(
Any bbq pits there?
@coffeedollsvp No bbq/pit. Open fire is not allowed on the island. Cooking stove is ok.
@CampoutWithMe is it a steep climb to campground? I want to haul stuff with a wagon..
@@coffeedollsvp if you are in the lower campground, you can roll right in with your wagon. I just walked. Made 2 trips.
They’re about the same, all are right there!! Everyone is going to walk to the beach and waterfall anyway!!
Hello what do you use to record your videos ? Great footage and picture
@TheRodriguezFambam I was just using my phone. If you use GoPro or similar cam with head/chest strap, that should work well too.
13/14 are my favorite spots at Ryan
Love the boulders giving some shelter and character too.
Thanks for that walk through. 😊
Enjoyed your video!! Have you been to Eshom? Worried about signal and directions… Any help would be great? I’m assuming it’s not the same way up that you took.. thanks

@IsabellaMarquez-x4o no, I have not been there but seems like a nice location to unwind. I would not count on having phone reception due to remoteness and mountain terrain.
There is a great Boy Scout Camp around the curve; we would hike up to and around Jenks Lake, and only rarely lost a scout.
@Citizen-pg8eu Yes, we've driven by. We've also camped at Heart Bar Campground, which I think used to be Boy Scout camp as well. Lots of choices in that area. Relatively straight forward hike up to Jenks Lake, and nice to go around the lake too. Hope the lake has filled back up with the recent rain.
Is there cellphone signal there?
I really liked your video . Im not crazy about the campgrounds but you explained it pretty good thanks.
Hello first time heading up to this camp sight first time hauling a trailer there would I be able to fill up my water for the trailer at the camp site
Hello, main road to NP entrance is pretty straight forward. Once you are inside the park, road gets narrower but still manageable with trailer in tow. The campground road can be tricky if you have a long trailer and may be difficult to back in. There is a dump station with water fill but if I recall you have to pay to dump. Enjoy.
This was really helpful. Thanks!
My wife and i like the upper campground.we have stayed there many times.thanks for showing this
Thanks for the video. Do you know if the hookups on the sites have regular electrical plugs for like a hairdryer. Or is it just for plugging in an rv?
Yes, normally sites with electric hookup have regular 110v 3 prong outlets as well. Obviously I didn't check all. Best is to call to confirm your specific site also have it.
Which one is your favorite beach campground?.
Nice video. What trips do you have planned this year if you don't mind me asking
What loop would be best if you had a big group, some have tents and some have RVs?
You scored a really nice campsite. What made you decide to camp at Ryan campground instead of the other ones?
I've been to several of the other campgrounds. Ryan is a little bit more secluded, and the sites are not right on top of each other. I prefer a site where you get an open view (as opposed to totally surrounded by trees, boulders, or whatever else maybe there). Part of the fun is finding a campsite, almost like buying a lotto ticket. if it is what you wanted / expected, jackpot.
@@CampoutWithMeHey, I didn't notice that you responded bc for some reason YT stopped sending me notifications. I agree, getting a good campsite feels good. One day you should head up Burns Canyon in your truck.
This campground actually looks way nicer to me than the Heart Bar campground. But what did you say about generators at night? Are the quiet hours when they can't be used? Bc it's awful to be next to those generators if you are in a tent.
Serano is a wonderful family campground, and you can bike just about everywhere from there. Yes, all the established campgrounds have quiet hours, including this one. I'm just saying that I'm in the RV loop with FULL hookup, so no one is running generators in this loop even in the daylight hours. Yes, Heart Bar CG is totally more primitive and has no "organized activity" in the area. You are basically on your own.
Do you know how it works when it comes to pulling capacity for a truck? Obviously you have a massive truck that more than handles your small trailer. But I am looking for a trailer for a family of five. I am cost oriented though and would want it to be as small as possible to still work. Do you think a Tacoma would have enough pulling capacity to pull a trailer for five people? Or what trucks should I be looking at?
Yes, your specific Tacoma will have stated somewhere, probably in the glovebox sticker or on the driver door (or you can find on iNet) 2 things: The towing capacity and payload. Towing capacity is how much weight you can pull (e.g. a trailer). Payload in how much weight you can carry, people in the truck, gas, items in the truck bed and last but not least, the "tongue weight" when towing the trailer, which typically is 300-500 lbs (~10% of the trailer loaded weight). I started towing with a mid-size Dodge Dakota, which met all the requirements of towing capacity and payload but felt uncomfortable with the performance, and handling, especially on tight 2 lane roads going downhill, and not to mention that the small fuel tank emptied quickly. That was when I decided to move up to a full size truck.
You will have to find which trailers can accommodate your family and see if your Tacoma can still meet the towing capacity and payload. You can always start to tow with the Tacoma. Definitely get a weight distribution hitch (I had the Blue Ox), especially helpful with a lighter truck. Now that the truck shortages are subsiding, you may be able to find some deals on Full Size trucks.
Have you ever been to the McGill campground? That one is closer to me and seems to be very similar to this one.
McGill, the one near the top of the mountain by the 5/Tejon Pass? I've driven by the area many times but have not been. Besides Heart Bar CG, Bartons Flat CG in the same general area is good for several hikes too.
@@CampoutWithMeYes, I think you exit the 5 by Frazier Park. Hope you do a video about it one day. I have only heard good things about it, but have never been myself
@@luperamos7307 Hopefully later this year I get to go. Just been so busy.
@@CampoutWithMe I really hope you go. Can't wait for the video. I never went bc I don't have a trailer and it gets pretty lonely there
Is this your favorite campground in the San Bernadino mountains?
I wouldn't say the favorite, but I do like the campground as there are lots to do in the area. I also like the campgrounds on the other side of Big Bear near Angelus Oaks area, which are typically less busy.
@@CampoutWithMeWhich campgrounds would those be? I was thinking of going to Hanna Flat. Seems to be a really nice area up there with many dirt trails as well.
Hi! How far of a walk is the beach from lower level?
The lower campground is pretty big. If you are close to the tent camping sites, which is more or less adjacent to the highway, you literally just cross under the Hwy, and you are practically there. If you need a distance, I'd say a quarter mile.
Thank You So Much for the reply! @@CampoutWithMe
Great footage! What time of season did you visit?
Hi, that was right around the week of Thanksgiving in late November. I think it was right after. I was camping nearby, so I got there early enough before others.
Thank you, this is very useful and informative. Currently this park is closed, but they started opening up reservations for May 2024. Appreciate your time and video.

Great video. Thanks for making this!!!
Terrible video
Nice review, Thank You.
I can see the neighbors...too close...
Yes, hard to get privacy in these popular national park / national forest campgrounds.
Terrible campsite
It's a crying shame what the management company of this park has done, (or not done) to this campground. It's horribly overgrown. The trail to the shoreline is nearly unpassable, and the toilets were a mess. The camp host was doing the very best they could with what they were being given but holy moly... The forest service should really take a look at what's going on in their parks and evaluate the management system they're using. Sad... This use to be such a magnificent campground.
That is sad to hear. Looks like CampOne is the management company, and they have a 10-year contract that doesn't expire until Oct 2026. Are the other Campone managed campgrounds also in a similar state? When I was there, the trails were still accessible and I vaguely recall they have a person come by in a truck each day after check-out time to do the cleaning, restock toilet paper, etc. Sometimes, during the summer months as well as holiday weekends, bring out some campers / hikers that are less conscientious of their surroundings and environments. And wonder if the trails are still managed by the Forest Service..., while Campone just manages the campground. www.fs.usda.gov/detail/lpnf/home/?cid=fseprd523710
@@CampoutWithMe I think it's pretty much just this one and the day use areas near here that are in disrepair. I would imagine it's because highway 1 is closed so not a lot of traffic makes it there. I was there in July and after seeing videos of what it looked like before I'm very disappointed.
In that case, let's hope CalTrans can finish getting Hwy-1 repaired and reopen soon so they can get this and other facilities back in shape.
Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful. Thanks for this video.
I was there….I recommend go camping there😋
I was there 2 months ago;thanks God now is more beautiful!!! …more green;I had great memories 😋😋
Has to be pretty when there are live green vegetation!
This is a massive campgrpunds with loads of space it seems. I noticed online how much people seem to like it.
The amenities are basic. Some do complain it's too unimproved, but I think quite a few of us like it that way 😀
Which campground do you like the most in the San Bernadino mountains?
That's a tough call. They all have their characteristics. I do like Heart Bar for the fact that there are plenty of good sites to choose from and several interesting hikes around the area. Bartons Flat was just as good. You can't go wrong. If you have smaller kids, Serano on the Big Bear side might be better as you can go into town easily or just ride bikes along the lake.
Can you use the national parks pass to reserve here?
Unfortunately you cannot as this is a California State Park.
What a unique content, what a magnificent presentation my friend!!! Hats off! Amazing video, so much effort has been put into this video that it is easy to see in every scene! Nicely elaborated!
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. Definitely wanted to memorialize the hike. It was, as expected, exciting and enjoyable. Great weather and fortunately wasn't too crowded.
Helpful. Thank you
I’m staying at site 12 next week. Thanks for the walkthrough.
Should be wonderful weather. Enjoy!
