Where I currently work we only put in four, when I was in Melbourne we would mark every gridline.
Yes 4 seems to be a minimum for residential homes in new subdvisions. This house was a little larger so a few extra marks always helps.
Painting the historic rock arrow seems like vandalism.
@@glenwillson5073 yes I would agree to an extent. To surveyors it’s helpful to find for the next survey. The paint is not the best quality so over time will disappear.
Fabulous place for building house
Quality paint job 👍
Cheers. I would have chosen yellow myself but on this occasion my Surveying collegue chose white! Thanks for watching.
Doing well for a surveyor, "Where are we". That would have gone down well when I was an Artillery Surveyor in Vietnam. I'll just ask that bloke with the AK47 and his mate with the RPG7.
Yes - I had to think for a second and didn't want to make a video re-take! haha.... Thanks for watching.
That's awesome mate, good find!
in Australia. can you survey around whole country or is it like in America were you can only survey in just on state were you get your license?
@@jacksonleamons9888 Hi. You can survey in other states of Australia if you register yourself in those states. For me I’m just Registered in NSW. But if not registered you can still survey if you go work for someone else.
And it the "E" which indicates right-side up images if I remember correctly. Means less gymnastics for the brain whilst you're trying to keep your figures straight.
Many thanks for the message. I had to l;ook again and did see the "E" and yes thankfully the correct way up. My 1880 Troughton Simms theodolite - see other videos, has an inverted image!
Done too much work in the bush. Any fence within a metre is “spot on”. Cockies (farmers) just put it close, and that considered close. They’re not interested in millimetres. Don’t get me started on fences on river banks… they just put them where they can between trees they never follow the boundaries. Most bush stuff has a setback of 10m plus so nobody is going anywhere near their boundaries for this reason, better safely in . Your property than potentially next door
We hang a plumb bob from points on the ceiling in the underground mine. I think that with this system we can install a Total Station on the projection of the point on the ceiling without plumb line. Do you think this is possible?
Hi there. Yes with the carrier inverted the laser plummet could project a point upon the ceiling. Not sure how high above the working surface the ceiling is, but it could work. Then you can middle up on the ground to the point above you. The specs say 1mm acc. per 1.5m so at say 3m above thats 2mm acc... I could try a make a video of the laser and see. Let me know if you try it.
The gallery ceiling will be approximately 4 meters from the trestle. I hope I can install with 2-3 mm accuracy. I may order 1 piece to test the system. I will let you know when I test it. Thank you for your support.
In addition to the benefits to the next surveyor, another reason it might have been done that way is, if it's just far enough inside the property, the neighbor likely has little if any say in the matter (or obligation to pay for it). At a guess, the little buttresses sticking out from the wall exactly matched the survey line.
Well spotted. I didn't consider the buttress but i'd say youre correct on the buttress beingon the boundary line. The wall fronts council land / road so I assume the owner would have paid for it themselves.
Hi , can we fix/lock the tribrach when we turn it upside down?
Hi. Great question. Turning it upside down to use the laser on a ceiling etc.... the adapter cannot be locked. But if the adapter is up the correct way, it is locked in the tribrach so if you were to carry it on your shoulder, it wont fall out. I might make a video on that thanks.
Thank you so much.
How accurate would you say it is? could you record a point with the autopole been out of level then remove the autopole and stake that same point plumbing you rod, and give us the results.
Hi there. Thanks for the question. I havent tried that as yet but I will. Stay tuned for a video. With gear like this I've been a bit cautious measureing things. I've made multiple measurements on the same point just to ensure no errors. Then meaned them up. The mean point is only millimetres in difference. But i will test this and let you know.
Greetings! Fellow Surveyor here in the States. If you are in the southern hemisphere I was wondering if you’d lend a fellow land surveyor a hand? I was wondering if you could set an auto-level near a large body of water looking towards the horizon and use your phone to snap a video of the view through the eyepiece? I’m interested in seeing where the waters horizon is in relationship to eye level. Thanks for the videos and the best of luck.

Surveyors have THE BEST job

yes pay is pretty good depending on the job and if you work for yourself its pretty rewarding!
Nice survey Mark. 😊 Greetings from Germany
Hi Dominik. Thanks for watching! Greetings from Australia.
Hey, I'm just looking for insight into what it's like as a surveyor. I am currently in a gap year working with my dad and struggling to find something i am interested in to study at university. Would you recommend this? what are the hours like? and are there a lot of opportunities? cheers
Hi. Sorry for the slow reply! Surveyors are super busy and plenty of work out there if your are a Surveyor. To become one, there are few options. Start at TAFE and do a Cert.3 and 4 (1 year duration total ) and become a Surveyors Assistant. Then work towards a Diploma of Surveying ( an extra year) and then perhaps move onto a University degree ( 3 - 4 years) and then registration ( 3 years )..... Thats sounds like a lot but you can be working in the meantime and getting valuable experience. I have a heap of videos of the many types of survey work... Yes I would recommend this as there is a shortage of surveyors in Australia. If you think about it, Surveyors are needed to make maps of anything? And there are many opportunities in civil, construction, engineering, mining, private - including surveys for urban, rural work - my specialty and its a career for life. Work involves both outdoor and back in the office. Happy to discuss further if you like outside of YT.
@@globalsurveyor Sounds fun, just recently went to an information session at tafe and I think I’ll start there with it. If I were to finish my two years and get a diploma would you still recommend to go to university aswell. Like how does the bachelor help me, does it give me more pay and better information?
Hi. With the diploma, this will allow you to work for someone. Pay would be ok but with a degree, I'd say you'd be paid more. You can't technically start a business after doing a diploma and thats because surveying involves property boundaries and so without being registered you can't undertake any surveys related to boundaries. To get registered you need the uni degree. However working for a firm who has registered surveyors would allow you go out and do and experience surveys like you see in my videos. So yes start with the TAFE diploma. There are many options for work even if you don't do the uni degree. And I did my degree through Uni of Southern Qld so I was able to work full time and study. Its a great job and you'd have this career for life. Keep me posted.
@@globalsurveyor thanks a lot, I appreciate it
What was your research to even know where to look?
Hi there. Thanks for the comment. I was undertaking a boundary marking job and so I ordered the relevant survey plans for the property. As it happens the survey for the block of land was very old and noted on the plan was broad arrow 186. So I was super excited to go find this mark which I did. I have a few survey mark videos - old marks - on my channel. Hope you enjoyed watching this and stay tuned for other videos to come.
cool
I was replaced as the gunner on a total station by one of these robotic units 😮
Yes - gone are the days where a Surveyor and assistant exist. Now just the Surveyor or a very qualified assistant to use the equipment under supervision.

Awesome 👌
Not bad. I use this on case in the daily. Better storage options than the TS15 case. Wish this case had storage for a mini prism and some way more robust clips. Always a little worried they could give out on me.
That prickly plant is one of the Hakea species that I have bumped into many times. They are very hardy and have have a woody fruit. The tips of the prickles seem to break off and get stuck in your skin only to get infected over the next two days with all the associated fun! These plants seem to love the sandstone country around Sydney that has survived more or less intact due to the poor soil quality they thrive in.
Hi. Many thanks for your reply and for watching. As surveyors we are expected to know some tree species but not that one. I do now. Cheers!

Exactly!! Thanks for your comment and support of the channel!
Thanks for sharing mate! I’m looking into studying surveying at university, I’m really interested in cadastral surveying particularly. Did you go through university qualification or have you learnt through experience on the job?
Hi there. Yes I studied at USQ - Uni of Southern Queensland so I could work full time and whilst I learnt a lot on the job, yes you 1st need a uni degree and then need to get Registered as a Surveyor before you can legally undertake any survey relative to boundaries. If you work with someone who is registered then you can undertake work under their supervision. However if you work by yourself, its impossible to undertake this kind of work.... Glad to hear you like cadastral. Its better than being on building sites in my opinion. Thanks for watching -- have plenty of cadastral videos there!
@@globalsurveyor Thanks for the response mate! I’m looking at USQ also! How long have you been a surveyor for now?
@@GJyoutuber123 Hi - started my journey in 1994 !! 30 years!
@@globalsurveyor wow congratulations! Have you found ample job opportunities in that time? I’m wanting to begin my career in Sunshine Coast and from what I’ve read it is a pretty desired skill set where ever you go, would you agree with that?
@@GJyoutuber123 Hi - Thanks. Yes many job opportunites for Surveyors and it would be a career for life. We have a massive shortage in Australia as many older ones are retiring. Heaps of work going around. Whether that be in civil, government, mining, private sector. Good luck with your studies. USQ is a great way to do it. Keep me posted!
Can it be couriered to India
Hello. Thanks for watching. Perhaps there is a Leica dealership in India? What type of total station do you use?
Whats the price of robotic trimble machine
Hi there. I'm not sure. Leica TS16 in Australia costs nearly 40K AUD. Maybe less?
I watch a lot of your videos. And, they are enjoyable to watch. I am not a land surveyor, although I do a lot of commercial construction layout. I am interested in purchasing or an upgrade to a Leica total robotic station. If you were to do it again with Leica products, would there be any station, upgrade or overall change in product or accessories? Right now my issue is connectivity in terms of controller to station, or that it seems to be the issue. I have an older Trimble RPT600 that works great aside of radio signal reliability. Is this ever an issue at reasonable distances and reasonable interference expectations using Leica products?
Hi. Sorry for slow reply! I'm a Leica user through and through! The Leica TS16 is a really good robotic total station. Mine is about 4 years old. The newer versions now have an automatic height of instrument laser and better tracking capabilities. Mine still has awesome ATR and power search functions including Filter Learn which scans the area for all targets and excludes them so that when using robotic the S16 locks only onto you and not prisms. The CS20 controller is rugged and has a good keyboard. I'm not a fan of the touch screen controllers only. I prefer to use buttons also. I can use the CS20 and control not only the TS16 but also the GS18 (GNSS) so one controller for 2 devices... Its swaps between the 2 easy. My TS16 has a 1000m laser range for reflectorless observations and the long range bluetooth works really well when the antenna is up so have no issues working robotically at a distance. I recently upgraded my antenna and bought the AP20 autopole which is a game chnager. The controller automatically updates the pole height when changed and the tilt function for both the AP20 an GS18 means I can get any shot imaginable. I do like Trimble but the latest controller is very large.. The R12i GNSS is much smaller than the Leica GS18 which is a bummer for Leica. Hopefully one day a smaller GNSS. I have a few videos here so thanks for watching and always looking for ideas if you want a question answered!
Not much of a review. It doesn't even sound like you used before you started filming.
Thanks for your comment. At the time of filming this was a hire unit. I more detailed review coming soon.
Karen: " is that my boundary corner?" Surveyor: "No maam" Karen: "What is it then?" Surveyor: "We put them here to hold the road down so it doesn't blow away"
"Why are you set up out the front of my house? Whats it got to do with my house?"
No widening, sorry. Survey to define the boundaries of the propery down the road. Thanks for watching.
I thought you just looked through cameras on the road? Oh by the way are you widening the road😂
Rebuilt back to origional (hiding the modern services) it could be liveable again! No cars!
Not a surveyor, but it appears that somebody was trying to be thoughtful about helping future surveyors. Also looks like it needs an additional spritz of marking paint since the last fluorescent orange is fading away. As far as the towers, people do need a place to live, and one would hope that they design the towers to fit in with the landscape. Having places to live near public transportation will increase the use of public transportation and perhaps reduce pollution.
These are common in the U.S.
