    Hey mate, can I ask you a few things? How has surveying changed in the last 10-15 years? I used to be in it but left. It looks like you resect everything, even for cadastral work? In Victoria we would (depending on the situation) find a mark, set up on it, and set a backsight to another mark, check a few offsets to occupation on that bearing, and turn maybe turn an angle to find a third mark. It looks like you resect and put in boundary pegs and you are all set? Are there any other checks you do? Sorry if this sounds stupid, I have been considering maybe re-entering the industry but not sure if I have missed the boat with all this new tech and procedures!

      Hi. Many thanks. Its cool hey. There is probably some room for improvement with the mount as it needs to firmly wrapped around the handle of the total station but I've also bought a camera adapter with a 5/8" thread to sit on top of a prism pole. The top of the adapter has 5mm or equiv. screw which goes into the camera so I could mount say my 360 camera on top of the prism pole. A video for another time. Have to be creative as I'm the camera man also. No-one else to film me. Cheers.

    • @globalsurveyor
      @globalsurveyor 5 дней назад

      @@angusgibson7746 spot on! Yes that’s the idea but you need to measure a level horizontal distance of the 5.5m so if there is slope or pile of dirt in the way you may need to plumb up the point or use a spirit level or something to compensate for that. But yes measuring 5.5m or the distance down along the direction of the line is the go. Sometimes we even have another peg square off the point so you have 2 points to measure from.

    • @globalsurveyor
      @globalsurveyor 5 дней назад

      Thanks for the question. If the corner can be marked it must be marked. If it’s the off a cliff then we normally place a reference mark nearby on the top either on the line of the boundary or a bearing and distance to the corner. One way or another we leave a mark.

    I especially like the idea of a coverbox for Concrete blocks (and really any buried marks in a built up area). I'm not too keen on encouraging randoms to look for GIPs, too much chance of someone either digging up a telstra line, or disturbing the gip by digging alongside it. Apart from that small issue, what a great idea :)

    • @globalsurveyor
      @globalsurveyor 8 дней назад

      Thanks for your comment. I agree that I don't wish to encourage untrained people to look for survey marks. Whilst the ideas are widely shared I'd assume only Surveyors would be taking this up. However good if the general public can be made aware of survey marks. My biggest hurdle is how do we get bulk cover boxes and can some be made that are perhaps smaller that the traditional size to sit over GIP's. Maybe temporary plastic PVC pipe 100 diam or equiv. sitting over a GIP with a plastic lid. Maybe some metal survey tags could be placed on a kerb opposite the mark or on a fence. I think the idea is to save a mark in the best way possible at the time. Maybe an improvement can be made if required later on. Happy for any suggestions and Stay tuned!

      Hi. No. This total station sits on the shelf with my other collections. This total station came out in the mid 1990's so getting very old. If affordable, the Leica TS16 is the latest but next step down is TS15. Still just as good. If you want to capture data, yes the Emlid would do the trick but GPS is not really accurate enough to position building corners etc. Any other features, trees, services, natural surface - The Emlid would suffice. Depends on what you are needing to map? The GPS is a 1 person operation. If you were to buy a Total Station you'd want to make sure you get the robotic features + controller so you can work by yourself.
