Buenas una pregunta, la boquilla de una trompa normal funciona con esa?
Si, todos los videos en los que toco el jHorn utilizo boquilla de trompa, la única cosa es que hay que llevar cuidado en que no se te caiga ya que va muy holgada.
I'm used to seeing this in Eb. Interesting seeing it in D as a way to practice them.
"Indeed, a key change is a very interesting way to work on a concerto."
Hi FFH. I was wondering what you do to utilize these exercises. Do you do 1-(whatever number) or just the attacks one day and just the slurs another day? How many of these do you generally a day if you're just working on technique, not repertoire?
Hello Carlw, I have been playing the horn for over 40 years and I have done a wide variety of routines. There are times when I have played the Technicor a lot, just as Bourgue advises (daily practice of all the technical modes of the instrument). Sometimes I only play scales and arpeggios. Other times I only play natural harmonics and/or I combine them with long notes, attacks, intervals, pedals, etc. I really like playing Kopprasch's etudes. I don't have a fixed routine, but it is true that I play every day at home, even if I have a rehearsal or concert.
@@ferranfrenchhorn Great, thanks for the reply! Yes, I have soooo many books and techniques but I don't like all of them or they don' work for me. These ones seem to resonate with me but I too have a hard time staying on one. I was using Teuber only for quite a while which I now use with yours. So I tried that Paxman 4A, didn't work for me on my Geyer/Knopf. Tried the #3 rim with it, still...takes getting used to . I've been using a customization of the JK 2EM with Bloom +0.03" rim and that has worked great. I guess the muscles are used to that for now. Yes, I am a gearhead, why? :)
"Indeed, with regular and efficient practice, the muscles get used to a mouthpiece with characteristics suited to what the musician needs. Once, a friend told me that when you start obsessively trying different mouthpieces, 'You've entered the jungle.'"
@@ferranfrenchhorn 😢😢 I've entered the jungle.
Can you please help with those sextuplets?
I don't know exactly what problem you have, but I think you should play this piece very slowly and, with the help of the metronome, speed up the tempo.
I prefer the 6801 to the 8D. This sounds a lot brighter in my opinion
Una peça molt interessant, gràcies!
@@georgH Si, un plaer tocar-la. Gràcies pel comentari
have you the midi tack ?
Yes, in GarageBand software
I have all the accompaniments for the first two methods of M. Alphonse done, and I wanted to continue with the other books, but as I have seen that there has been no success with these works I am not going to continue doing them.
Bello que hermosa interpretación. Muchas gracias
Muchas gracias por tu comentario.
Thank you greatly for this lovely graceful and charming performance. I write this as John Barrows' first "kid" (age 12) student in his New York City days. Also, I knew Mr. Wilder who was a close friend of Mr. Barrows, and whose music deserves and needs a wider and more frequent performances. A hearty, warm thank you, again.
What a nice surprise to read your words. Alec Wilder has written a lot of music and it really deserves to be performed more. I have only just discovered this sonata this September and I am having a great time playing it. Today I still have to record the third and fourth movements. Thank you for your comment, a very special comment.
@@ferranfrenchhorn I am warmly touched by your reply. Thank you. I truly admire your work on behalf of Horn players. Please see: Alec Wilder: Sonata #3 John Barrows and Tait Barrows. BTW, Jim Buffington was Mr. Barrows "right hand man". Gunther Schuller was in the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. And when Mr. Barrows was on tour, I studied with Ray Alonge and after Mr. Barrows became Professor at the University of Wisconsin, I further studied with Mr. Alonge (who was a student of Lorenzo Sansone. Additionally, I had 4 hours of lessons with Mr. Sansone and have a Sansone double horn).
Wow! So much information. I'll write it down and check it out. Thank you so much for your comment.
That's Etude 10 in my book. I'm in North America, I wonder if things were moved around?
I guess it's up to the editors...
@@ferranfrenchhorn Yes, strange. I have the same issue with Kopprasch.
If you tell me the American numbering of these studies I could try to fix this situation...
You should make one for trombone :D
@@fluteskrillex78 Yes, it could be done and it would be a good exercise for the trombone.
why is the first etude already so demonic
This book contains fairly high level studies, there are only twelve of them, so there isn't much progression.
👏
Sound is not bad! Rhythm is very bad on doted sixteenth thirty-seconds.
Yes, I have to admit that you are right, but it is too fast for me to do it better, my tongue is slow...
@@ferranfrenchhorn I tried it just now...I'm not sure what you're supposed to do! It's really fast!
All of Cugnot's studies have metronomic numbering, so I have scrupulously respected it, but I would lower the tempo a little and then the dots would be better.
I fucking new this song would slap on the French horn
Well, you'll end up playing it, of course.
Awesome
Thank you for all of these. Very well done!
I don't see a decrescendo in measure 7 in my part! What edition is this?
An edition for students of the University of Southern, California. From 1994.
Impressive 👍🏻
Bwaahhh, bwah, bwah... NO. Don't do that.

Прекрасное исполнение. Спасибо за ноты !
Switching between F/Bb sounds very smooth, same for large register shifts. Upper register, and forte+ sounds brighter than I'd usually expect on a Conn 8D. Did you enjoy playing the Conn 8D?
Hello, yes of course, I think it is my ideal horn, very versatile and noble.
Im debating picking one up. I played baritone and tube back in school and have missed it and cant afford a brass instrument. This seems like a cheap option to have fun with. Do you know if a baritone or trombone mouthpiece would fit it?
Hello, I have a trombonist friend who sometimes plays his jHorn and his mouthpiece does fit, but only the small caliber ones.
@@ferranfrenchhorn do you know what specific sizes by chance?
possibly a Courtois TB11 or TA11, but they tell me that it only fits a few millimeters into the leadpipe...
@@ferranfrenchhorn where there is a poor college student who grew up in a small town there is a redneck answer to that problem.
I catch him, dude
Исполнение красивое , нам любителям есть куда стремиться ,
Спасибо за ваши слова, бороться за красоту очень благородно.
Fascinated by your choices of Bb or F Horn for particular notes in one melodic phrase. I'll need to rewatch your videos and think about that. Thank you!
Thank you for your comments and for watching (and listening to) my videos.
Very interesting to hear a Geyer/Knopf wrap in nickel-silver: not a common Horn choice these days.
This is not a Geyer-Knopf horn, it is a simple Bb horn.
Thank you for these! I'm really enjoying hearing the different characteristics of the Horns you're playing.
You're welcome, it's a pleasure to share my experiences
