Little Big Horn Swing
“Blowing It”…a long story!
Back in about 2007, there was a mysterious package under the Christmas tree for me. Upon opening it that Christmas morning, I was truly surprised to find a used, student model alto saxophone. Yea, I’m a guitar geek, but I love all kinds of music and musical instruments, and dabble in a few. Kricky, my sweet bride of over 32 years, whom has always encouraged (and endured) my “obsessive” music passion, says,”you love the saxophone so much, you should try to learn to play it!” Man, I love this woman!!
So, I set out to try to teach myself the saxophone, devoting whatever spare time I could to it (even sitting in parking lots in my truck, practicing on lunch breaks🤣)....

Carmela
Просмотров 60День назад
Here’s a quick, 30 second sample of my new soprano sax, little Carmela’s, sweet voice. I’m learning that coaxing it out of her is quite challenging. I’ve read a lot of real sax player’s comments that soprano is the hardest of the sax family to play because achieving good intonation and balanced tone requires much development of breath control and embouchure (the position and use of the lips, to...
Jingle Bells (cover) “Jangle Bells”

This one’s from just a few years (and pounds😳) ago. Combining the cool jangly tones of “0l’ Yeller”, (my favorite Fender Telecaster) with some kinda’ jazzy rhythms, I ended up with my silly little version of “Jangle Bells”. Poor yourself a nog🥛 or a Bailey’s coffee ☕️ and join me in some Christmas cheer!
Sax Prax

Sax Prax! Learning the saxophone is much like golf…unless you possess a supernatural ability, the one key element that lends itself to improvement is spending time on it. At my ripe old age, I fear I might not have enough of that to make the strides I would like to, but… I’m committed to giving it at least a few minutes daily, when possible, to develop some kind of passable skill set. This inve...

The Roosters: Fun for all ages!

Here’s a glimpse of the fun The Roosters had with the sweet folks at The Phoenix at Union Hill Senior Living last week. Thanks Steve G for the video clips!
Tenor Twelve

This confounded horn has really peaked my interest, so I’m still devoting my share of retirement time to trying to get a handle on it… Alas, for you, that means I continue to subject you to it. At least you have the option of turning me off…and scrolling on… BUT my poor, sweet wife has no escape (she did vow “for better or worse”🤔). Today, I was interested in trying to improvise some lines over...
Long Note Practice Blues in Bm
Просмотров 71Месяц назад
Well, as threatened, I’m subjecting y’all to some more of my carrying ons with Brigette, my sweet vintage Selmer tenor sax. She is quite demanding and I have a long way to go to please her!😆 In this rendezvous, we are working on improvising, using long notes…maintaining breath control, vibrato and trying to develop a tone we are happy with. I created us a little B minor blues loop to get cozy o...
September in October (cover)
Просмотров 32Месяц назад
As a bit of a change from my (ab)normal musical meanderings, I’ve chosen to offer a pictorial collage of some of the September shenanigans that are near to my heart. Among these are my 67th birthday and the many blessings that God has bestowed. Of course, toward the top of the list is the precious time I get to spend with family, especially my beautiful, funny and sweet little granddaughter! Ma...
Georgia On My Mind (sax cover)
Просмотров 762 месяца назад
Doing something here I don’t normally do… Actually, a couple of things I don’t normally do. I would rarely, if ever, make 2 posts with the same song within a single week…but I had so much fun arranging “Georgia On My Mind” for a guitar demo at Jaws Guitars last week, I thought I’d try it again this week on “Brigette”, my ‘73 Selmer Mark VI Tenor saxophone. So, I recorded myself a backing loop, ...

At Jaws Guitars checking out this T style treasure from Tom Anderson Guitarworks with it’s beautiful roasted maple neck, coil splitting HSS pickup configuration and tremolo bridge. This one is seriously GOOD!!
Crossroads (cover)

An oldie, but a goodie! This song, Crossroads (originally titled Cross Road Blues), was released in 1937 by, bluesman, Robert Johnson. My exposure to it, at 11 years old, was on Cream’s third album, Wheels of Fire, released in 1968. I was already about a year into digging Cream, having fallen for their second album, Disraeli Gears. This new album, Wheels of Fire, was a double album, disc 1 bein...

Geez. Is there an instrument that you can’t play?

tapping needs work
Nice playing Eric.
Ok?????
Yes,but no one swings like the king.
You have a great time setup. Keep practicing. You’re very good.
yeah bro!!
Lobe it! And the title fits.
A couple of those pix look like surreal AIl!
That brought back some good ol' memories!
Like everything about dis jam, Bro! And the descrip is sweet, too.
Took me right back to that 1975 talent show if which you spoke. I believe you.also did "Old Man" by Neil Young at the same talent show. You certainly deserved to win IMHO.
Damn bro
Closed my eyes.and was right back in 1975 enjoying this for the first time.
Thank you
Love it! I also own a white SG 🤘
Very Nice!
I can picture Snoppy dancing...hahahahahaha !
Well, that brings back some memories. Thanks.
So good
Sounds like some Zeppelin tuning or Allman Bros riffs. Very trippy.
Yes, it reminds me somewhat of Jessica by Allmans
She sounds like a country singer. Very powerful voice.
Good morning. God bless your ministry.I am harry from south korea. Would you pray for my friend Kim Dongrip? It's heartbreaking to see someone who was once a Christian now falling into a destructive path influenced by alcohol, fornication, and a pursuit of worldly fame. He is denying God. He is very sly. Now He is rejecting gospel. Even with a sharp mind, it's challenging to reach them when he is not open to the Gospel. The contemplation of his soul's descent into hell weighs heavily on my heart. So would you pray for his soul and salvation? Thank you, sir.
Excellent cover. Enjoy watching you play.
Nice!
Sounds Terrific, Sir!!!!!!!!
Thanks for the kind words!
Like that! Sweet n stanky. Nicely played!😊
Thank you kindly
Dam bro your playing is smooth af… this video is already in my save box. 😎👊🏼
Appreciate it!
Your best work
Wow, thanks!
Beautifully done! It reminds me of when Adam Levine performed a version of Purple Rain live. It's worth a watch if you're into this.
CLASSIC tune!
Plant and his Band of Joy (bunch of Texans) took this tired old beat to death standard and gave it new life.Buddy Miller's tone is great.
I like the way Stephen Bruton played it when he was with Delbert. He is missed.Checkout Delbert doing "B Movie Boxcar Blues" on Austin City Limits. What a band back then. AINT IT FUN BEING FROM TEXAS!
Nice try,but not quite there yet, keep working on it...Peace
Nice one sounds great
Thanks so much!
Beautiful Jimmy. Peace from the Emerald Isle.
Awesome playing, and waffle house hat is nice touch.
Much better than this music they call music now. All they make now is a lot of noise and I call it Crap. Good Job and I bet that type guitar is hard to play. Look this song up on You Tube and learn to play it for me. (Merry Christmas Elvis by Brandon McPhee). I wrote the song and now Brandon McPhee is singing for me in Scotland.
Thanks for the change of pace. I’ve got the same shirt.
hell yeah
Well done you really got the sound jimmi .
Jimmy - Jimi, it’s all the same. Sounds damn good to me.
