It was obvious that it was a scam since APOC and since they changed first from UE3 to UE4 and then from UE4 to UE5. They are just delaying permanently the real development of the game while raising funds. Its the definition of a scam.

Now zoom out. Does it scale and stay in a fixed position as you zoom inn or out, or does it cover my entire character as I go into a building?

so far addon seems to work fine though the health and mana bar sometimes randomly appear when im in towns even though im not in combat or took any damage.

The Veilguard feels like a nightmare you never want to re-experience. The game would be way better if they erased Dragon Age before the Veilguard. If they wanted to make a real Dragon Age game, they should've stucked with the lore, kept the factions like they should be, the crows for example. They are contract killers, not the good guys, they are horrible monsters, buying kids and training them to an assassin, regardless of the losses. The lords of fortune steal from whoever they meet along the way. The preachy crap using words from OUR world, Traash sucks she wants to be respected and is disrespectful towards Emmrich calling him names and trashtalks Neves clothing. WHY do you have to respect someone who doesn't respect others? The top surgery scars in a MEDIEVAL FANTASY GAME doesn't belong in Thedas, the tiniest wound could kill someone if no potions nor mage is around. The only things I like is it's graphics, the different hairstyles and the final 2-3 hours. I want to be morally grey and tell Traash to leave Damn Krem was so interesting, he is so well represented in my opinion.

I feel the main issue with the story and characters is you aren't allowed to disagree or have real conflict anymore, you're prevented from RPing your character and reacting in any way other than affirmitively or passively. This is why characters like Taash come across as annoying and preachy. There's nothing wrong with characters that are abrasive, petulant or even stupid. The key is to allow paths to let them actually develop, confront them, conflict with them. I'm not even talking about options to be mean or evil, just to be able to tell them when they're out of line and guide them. If you ask me this trend began in full force with the ending of Mass Effect 3. You were not allowed to RP your Shepard, you couldn't disagree or conflict with the Starbrat, or present it with the blatant evidence that it was clearly wrong. You had to accept its broken logic and then choose an option from the Endingtron-5000. I think this flaw and arrogance in writing is now _everywhere._ No matter who you want to play as, you must conform to what the writer wants even if it's opposed to what the player wants without even the illusion of choice.

Very well said Amy. I think, actually I wholeheartedly believe, that we play these games and stories to escape our mundane reality at times. You played Witcher III: Wild Hunt, to feel, like Geralt of Rivia and losing yourself in that world of The Witcher. The lore. The fantasy and action. I honestly don’t understand what they’re doing at times lately. I loved inquisition it was my first time playing Dragon Age. It is very frustrating that it gets flak for being diverse. Diversity is not the problem, the problem is just that the writers are not the greatest at writing. There is such a thing as subtlety. And it is very important in storytelling. Especially in fantasy where allegory is the name of the game (sorry Tolkien, it's true). Something that people get wrong about this whole controversy is that "games aren't political"... that's absurd, of course... games & stories in general have always been political. Especially ones that people say aren't. DA:O, for instance, calls out racism explicitly with the interactions between Humans & City Elves; it mocks & condemns reactionary nationalism in the Dalish Elves and Loghain; it calls out the oppression of organized religion by having the Chantry complicit in slavery & murder -- similarly, the Shale DLC also condemns slavery & praises slave rebellion; Leliana is a heretical lesbian church nun & former spy; Zevran is a bisexual (poly?) assassin who is depressed & wants to die after murdering one of his lovers on contract; Morrigan is a highly formal, witty witch who has cripplingly bad social skills due to an abusive & treacherous mother (who is also a near-immortal demigod?).... ....I'll have to stop, because as I think through it, nearly every single thing that happens in the game is a highly charged political/social statement with a heavy-handed embrace of diversity. So why does this game get a pass on this stuff? Simply because the writers wrote it better. They wrote it in a relatable, human way. It's nothing to do with content, everything to do with presentation.

I hope it's something somewhat centralized either in or near a major city, and not something plopped in the middle of a random zone in the Midnight expansion. I worry that it'll end up like the garrison in WoD and it'll become this thing that you only ever visit if you're running that expansion's content. By The Last Titan, it would be completely irrelevant. And that would be lame.

I think furniture will become a secondary profession. It'll explain why tailoring absorbed first aid. Also they've come out to say that housing will be designed around a community. Not open world plot of land type, but probably certain buildings in cities and towns multiple people can buy with instanced interiors

I think the story was good! Though its opening acts were a bit weak. I think what this game needed was an “origin” kinda like DA origins. I needed to see Rook and Varic meet. Like… I Matt, know Varic. But I need to see Rook and Varic get to know each other

27:58 older d&d titles are worth trying. stuff like neverwinter nights, baldur's gate, icewind dale etc. there's also knights of the old republic, back from when bioware was at the top of their game.

Darkspawn are such a joke it’s like 🤦 any of my fellow warden players can think back to Ostagar and the tragedy of Duncan and our king falling at Loghains treachery. They were menacing they enjoyed inflicting pain it’s a game but it inspired feeling of betrayal and revenge such writing and art styles brought about the success of origins.

Videogames, much like movies, books, etc. Are products, we can tell if they're good or bad. Just because someone likes something that sucks, doesn't mean it is good. Like a book or movie, the writing matters a lot. Dragon Age Veilguard, objectively, is written poorly. "Bioware has always been aces at storytelling." End of ME3. Andromeda. Most of the good writers are just gone. I never understand why people think this is good combat. It is the same thing from about hour 10 to maximum level. The combat doesn't change really at all, you do the same thing, for dozens of hours, the enemies are basically always the same the entire way through, you have barely any abilities and you have to spam regular attacks to use them. We're 9 years post Witcher 3, which is significantly better combat The storytelling IS bad. Pacing, stakes, emotional investment, its all either incredibly shallow or dealt with so fast you get no time to feel anything. Also has a tendency to be undercut with very...'marvel' level humour. On its own as a game, it would be mid, maybe slightly below, as a dragon age game its awful.

As a fan of the original DA since DAO I feel the same way, Amy. Totally understand what you feel and your disappointment. The thing that pulled me the most to DA is the dark tone and strategic combat. I remember it took me several tries before being able to defeat a dragon (which I forgot the name), and Flemeth. This was born from my love of the Infinity Engine of Black Isle (of Baldur's Gate fame). Veilguard is a game that I don't recognize anymore, and I heard from another youtuber that the writers actually destroyed Ferelden. Making all our choices, character, stories from DAO irrelevant.

For those who played Origins first, Inquisition and Veilguard are a punch in the bag.. hurts, and the same thing happened with other franchises.. players from 1990 to 2010 suffer

Oh wow, i was excited for a nuanced take from someone with some media literacy until you got transphobic. You feel disturbed by trans people being at the forefront in the games world because you feel disturbed that trans existing in the first place. The game does nothing more that suggest that trans people exist. You use the argument that diversity breaks immersion to hide the fact that your just dont like trans people. I feel largely the same way. Why is it so hard to make well written, good RPGs these days? Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 are increasingly feeling like the exception rather than the rule.

A great analogy for this series is a gymnastic routine. First one, dude they nailed that landing! Second, ok they tried a different move, stumbled but caught themselves. Third, damn did you see that finish?? Fourth gymnast got cocky, said watch this, then did a flip falling on their face. Oof 😂

If this was not a DA game, okay new IP might be fine. But the fact that this is sold as a DA game ... please no. No! This is not a DA game. Under any other brand or name it would have been a AA Action RPG. Under Dragon Age we EXPECT things like good writing, Lore, well written characters, and a DARK fantasy.

I loved Veilguard. It's more of a cinematic action game, with a handful of significant choices. Not so much a traditional RPG. However, I have had a fantastic time with this game. Its beautiful, bug-free, the combat is excellent and the overarching story was incredible. Especially how this story tied the history and lore to the origines of elves, dwarves, blight, more. Anyone who says "writing bad" hasnt played this. Maybe the inter character dialogue was generally cheerful (I didnt get that from Davren or Lucanis or Neve, but Bellara and Harding sure). A brilliant game. Not what I expected, but brilliant.

This is a very good review. I agree that if it didn't have the bioware name it probably would have been better received. Heck it didnt even need to be a dragon age game. It would have been a very serviceable action rpg.
