Interview with Marilyn VanDerbur (Short Version)
My little antedote is a bit amusing I guess, but I've never forgotten the hurt and shame I felt ... Married for 6 years and determined to be the best wife ever.. my mom had married 3 times, each time we got a new dad the house rules changed, different school, church and search for friends. I will never get a divorce I said. There was a belly dancing class at the YMCA, I signed up, wanting to impress my husband. Made my own costume with all the sequins and little bells. Learned how to roll my hips and belly trying to appear seductive..lol I bought a Little Egypt album and planned the surprise for my husband ! I started the music, got dressed in my scarves and tinkling jewelry , and swayed my way into the living room where my husband was sitting in his red-neck orthopedic device ( recliner ) His response ? He didn't just laugh, he guffawed...on and on. He thought it was hilarious, I was mortified. ( divorced him 15 years later..had enough ) 🌷
I love you ❤ can I meet you? Going through hell in my life 😢
She's 87 years old now.
❤ love you Marilyn! I’m halfway through your book. You are Godsent to so many
She is amazing! I am going to make my commitment to sewing the BoHo handbag that I have been thinking about and collecting the materials for. The commitment is now. Thank you lovely lady!!!
I can't think of a positive quality this angel woman does not have! Even the physical beauty was given to her. Love you Marylin💖
RIP to your sister Ms. Gwen VanDerbur Mitchell who passed last September 2022. Her corroboration of your truth was most important. God bless you and your family Ms. Atler💞
This woman is such a brave warrior. Nevertheless, seeing Walt Disney as a thumb nail nade me cringe...he has been associated with much childhood trauma with the Mickey Mouse Club and Hollywood. The Disney Corp is very corrupt.
Curious if Marilyn Van Derbur abandoned her father when she accepted what had been done against her
You can read a little about it here: mkculture.blogspot.com/2009/07/ She said that she confronted him at age 40 and they never spoke of it again. By age 47, she was struggling a lot and that is when her father passed away. It sounds like she hadn't abandoned him but there was a little distance right before he died.
I ❤ Marilyn
It bothers me that her piece of shit father and mother had no consequences. Fu$#&ng bastards.
I always love the stories where the counselors said "You'll never do it" And then they do. "You're dreaming!".
Michaelangelo Was Gross too. I mean the think about it. Jeezum.Crow Freaking Weirdo. Yes. His father was a.... 33° FREAKMASON! Old Neil Armstrong. Put your hand.on the Bible with Neil, Buuzzy Don't go all Clockwork Orangey On us bro"
Creepy as F-
What's your problem? Consider the time this video was recorded and the fact that she comes from the baby boomer generation. Her talk seems normal to me.
You are the creepy one
On a sacrilegious errand.
WTH? Explain!! Who are You?
Maureen Obrien is a troll.
"33" Days! Gematria.
Ayn Rand was gross. Rothschild Ho.
she is incredible, her tenacity reminds of me of my grandma
Having learned of the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study in 2010, I have dedicated my life to the pursuit of healing without re-traumatized. Thank you for being one of the of the courageous people to shine a light into your own painful past. I admire you so much, and thank you for living your phenomenal life.
I ❤ you Marilyn ❤
This woman is amazing💜
Yes, I can!
I saw a documentary about your story today. As it has been with many others, I can relate to it. My story differs in that I was neglected and malnourished as a child. As a result, my body was run down and very thin from about three years of age. When I was 6, I had tonsillitis, chicken pox, strep and measles. Because of the malnutrition, I also had a mini stroke. This paralyzed one of my vocal cords and create a partial blockage in my airway. The story gets more complicated from here-but I realized from your experience with your mother that no one was for me. No one had my back. I lived in shame. Today, I am handicapped. I didn’t succeed in anything in life. Thank you for sharing your story. It helped me feel connected just a little.
Dearest Marilyn, There simply are no words to describe the rage that engulfs me when I think of what you and so many people have gone through. The anger overwhelmes me....
She is an amazingly strong and resilient Woman💛
I just had this revelation recently at 64 yrs old. When i was young my mom told me don’t get involved in anything unless you know you can win. Since I didn’t have confidence i stopped trying. Fortunately some teachers encouraged me to do things because they believed i could. I did excel beyond my lack of self esteem because i held on to a quote from Les Brown (motivational speaker & author) which was “if you can’t believe in yourself, believe in someone who believes in you!” This has been a Godsend! It kept me going but most of the time when big opportunities came my way i just couldn’t breakthru the thoughts i had of myself. I was offered a book deal on something i was working on - i was scared but jumped in it. Then a bunch of major obstacles all came at the same time. I gave up the house I worked so hard for bcz my abusive alcoholic husband said he would give me custody of our son who is autistic & he had began hitting him & threatening to break his hands. I didn’t blink an eye & said yes. Despite losing so much money & ending up in a shoe box, it was worth it to keep my son safe. Other things happened too & also ended up in the hospital for 3 weeks with covid fighting for my life. I have long covid now for 2 years which has also given me covid brain & I struggle with major cognitive functions. I cried cause I couldn’t write. I tried not to think about it, i contemplated just letting that dream go. After several meds etc. i can write a text like this but it takes me forever. I hope it makes sense & sorry for the lengthiness as editing is super hard. The things i write about has helped many & so i try & decided if it takes me forever, so be It. Word by word, sentence by sentence, & probably a whole lot of editing so it makes sense, i will keep trying. I realized that i may not be a natural writer but the message is important so i will find a way. And medically i will keep trying to find a way to recover. Your video is so on point & sheds light on how others were able to breakthru. And it doesn’t have to be a natural ability! Despite a number of things i also went thru as a kid... i survived a lot!!! And kept trying. Despite the down days, you have given me inspiration to fight another day. Thank you for your brave story on another video of yours & this one!!!! And even though I discovered the concept of this video myself just recently, i believe in you bcz you believe in US! Thank you so much Marilyn for making such a huge difference in our world! Much love to you & your husband & daughter (& family)! 💜🙏✨✨
Well stated. 💞
❤🙏🏼
Thank you for the inspiration. I’m a wheelchair user with Cerebral Palsy & most days I feel like giving up due to physical & mental exhaustion, but your words have made me think. God Bless You.
You have lived a difficult early life and turned that around to help others. I am glad to see you still post to RUclips. I have thought of you often over many years, and the courage it took to tell your story. PS. You may enjoy a book "Discipline Equals Freedom" by Jocko Willink, a former Navy Seal. It's a wonderful, intuitive, easy read. A real treasure. Best wishes to you! PSS. I just looked and he has other books. Strive To Become An Eminently Qualified Human Being is another.
This is very inspiring. Hard work is the key!
She looks a bit damaged the poor thing ,terrible childhood…If you cannot trust your parents who can you trust ?
She’s really just a wonderful storyteller.
Thank you. I am so honored to say I have watched hours of videos. For courage and hope. If I am down she's my therapy. Peace be with you.
Awesome speech 👏👏thankyou , Marilyn 🕊️🤍
Thank you Marilyn.
This was a God send! Thanks for sharing!
Jessica Savitch that name takes me back. She was a big part of my youth. I lived in Philadelphia at the time of her rise to stardom. She was an inspiration to a young girl who was awkward and booksmart. It was awful when she tragically died so young. She still the best in my eyes.
Wow!!! I needed to hear this message today. Thank youso much Marilyn.
On the other hand I would say - to be alive today.. I have created miracle after miracle.. ..always against the odds and despite the many antagonists. Whatever I have, I snatched from the jaws of the dragons.
I’m trying to figure this out. I had many dreams.. But it seems my greatest achievement will have to be surviving sexual abuse. First you have to survive.. before a dream can happen. My mother would tell me ‘don’t bother trying’ and when I did, she made sure to sabotage anything I was excelling at. My mother wasn’t very talented, she hated that I was.
Thank you Marilyn! I hope that you are doing well. I have watched all of your videos. You are always an inspiration and for pointing out other people who have made their dreams come true. Much love 💕...
I love you Marilyn VanDerbur. You simultaneously bring me to tears and inspire me every time you speak. I thought about you this very morning, as I experienced my sleep-to-wake epiphany. I thought about how I have given up on making myself pretty, presentable, and caring for myself. I thought of your video about self-worth and self-care . . . and, despite the pain in my stupid arthritic hip, I got out of bed and decided to make the effort to love myself. You are a timeless gift. The influencer before "influencers" existed. I appreciate you so much.
Wondering why both videos ended in the midst. Wish Miss Marilyn held public court again. Reckon these are excerpts.
I wonder if she is preparing to go Home. 🥺❤ She is one of only a handful of people who I selfishly do not want to ever leave us. Marilyn VanDebur is a timeless beauty and inspiration.
@@mombear5116 Aye, I agree. Articulate. Strong! Brave!
Wow long time
Excellent job. But it doesn't happen in the performing business. You could sing like Sinatra - dance like Astaire - have the talent of Brando - but if don't meet the right people - you don't have a prayer. Nobody got a break in this business without the help of somebody.
The guy talking reminds me of a clean cut Jim Morrison lol
She is a wonderful woman. I don't know if it was RUclips who desactivated the comments in her other videos. I wanted to say: thank you so much Marilyn for all you do. I love you so much, I also love Harry for being a great man.
I think if every person came out the was molested just by teachers and coaches alone..... people would be SHOCKED*
Ms. Marilyn has got to be THE best speaker I think I've ever heard
At this point I just want to die!
Great delivery except the bit re: Alexander Hamilton. If she only researed him more.
