    Congrats to Darion. Way to break the generational curse. Marriage is a wonderful thing. In addition to effectively conveying messages, using proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation when texting is a great opportunity to practice for when it's called for. Ignoring lame videos is an appropriate response but is less likely to cause change than responding with a thumbs down or other more-active response. Writing requests and leaving them to be found is pathetic. Texting is more reasonable. Talking face-to-face is best. Get to know your neighbors. Be neighborly. Be the change that your community needs.

    I thought I was gonna say smell, but y’all convinced me to take sound.. Anyone who I invite into my home to chill is welcome to my refrigerator. It actually makes me feel good to see my friends and family so comfortable in my home. I was just having a conversation about how wedges have been made between myself, and other parent friends bc of their parenting style, and how I’ve witnessed that with other women as well. You can be bestfriends with someone, and see them in a completely different light once they become parents. Example, a close friend I had since 13. We used to 🍃 together. We got pregnant for the first time at the same time. I stopped while pregnant, she did not. Then after we had our kids, she would invite me to 🍃 and I’d say “no I don’t have a sitter”, she would say “that’s ok my kid is here”, and even make jokes about the baby having a contact. Yeah nope. Congrats on 100 episodes! 🎉 #MontgomeryBrawl #FadeintheWater

      WAKANDA FOREVER! Thank you for being part of 100!!! I definitely think there’s a more sensible list of folks that can comfortably go in the fridge than what we offered in the episode. And the way people parent HAS to be a judgment of their character. It might make or break a relationship.

    I love that the black community is holding onto the Fade in the Water event and not letting us forget about it. I prefer to call it the Battle of Montgomery. The logic behind Savon's preference for dipping is solid. Couldn't agree more. I agree with both of your takes on bad sounds being more tolerable than bad smells. I don't have company frequently enough to care about controlling access to my fridge. If you're worthy of being a guest in my home, you're welcome to whatever you find in my fridge. One time when my parents were visiting, my mom went upstairs to use the bathroom up there rather than the unoccupied bathroom downstairs. That was weird. "Let this nigga experience childhood" is hilarious. Kids are developing vices way to early these days.

    The increasingly disturbing symbolism of the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies has been enough to diminish any desire I had to watch the Olympics to nothing. I've gone through phases of being okay with drinking milk and being adverse to drinking milk and have settled in a place where I can and will drink milk but typically don't. Respect to all the milk drinkers out there though. No respect for skim milk drinkers though. I don't drink milk often, but when I do, I want it WHOLE. Y'all have a great perspective on littering. It's still a major problem that very few people care enough to do something about. Have y'all seen the off-ramp from I-77 southbound to Copley Road? Disgusting. Privacy screen protectors are highly sus. I lose respect for anyone who uses one. And they tend to have the same effect on me as tinted windows; makes me want to look harder to see what you're hiding.

    I also thought that making the bed daily was a waste of time... until I began making the bed daily. There are many reasons to do it, and they all seem to be valid. For me, it's an easy daily practice of self-discipline that helps keep the bedroom, and effectively the rest of the house, tidy. I couldn't care less about the temperature of my pillows, but I definitely need a pillow to put between my knees if I turn to my side, you know, for ideal spinal alignment. That knee pillow happens to be the same pillow that, when I'm sleeping on my back, I hug to my chest and cover part of my face with. I do it too Darion! I have a two-compartment sink. When I wash the dishes, I prefer to put all of the dirty dishes in one side, wash as many dishes as I can before the second side is too full to wash any more without dirtying up the already-washed dishes, rinse those, then repeat until complete. I approve of the practice of taking some of the dishes out and putting them on the counter. I'll even leave lightly soiled dishes on the counter before washing, but my wife gets angry when I do that. In an effort to reduce the amount of breakable, maintenance-requiring machines in my home, I have opted to not get a dishwasher. It's more satisfying to clean dishes by hand anyways, and more consistent. And hand washing dishes provides a time to slow down and spend some time in your head, meditating, reflecting, planning. Saving disposable plastic cups is... interesting. Not quite comparable to saving disposable plastic tubs for leftovers. I hate drinking from plastic cups and eating from paper plates. Give me the real stuff. Glass and ceramic please. I, like Savon, also used to have family silverware with our last initial on it, and I miss it a lot. Someday I'll be able to afford that for my own household. I prefer small, dainty forks and small spoons. My dad always insists on eating with a big fork, and I have always viewed it as him compensating for something, but perhaps he just has a preference for heftier utensils. I don't like having to open my mouth wider to fit bigger spoons, so small spoons for me. According to my understanding of table etiquette, big forks are for salads/appetizers* and main courses, little forks are for dessert, big spoons are an abomination (they're for serving, not eating with), small/normal-sized spoons are for most situations, and rounder soup spoons are for soup. Respect to that fella for asking for his friend's permission to date, and later marry, his sister. Although I agree that it's kind of silly to ask anyone permission to do anything that they don't have the authority to deny. I think it's hilarious that mom has less interest in visiting because the AC is too damn cold. I feel it mom. I feel it.

      @@Nat_Hedges I couldn’t agree more with the day slowing down and actually be able to think when doing dishes!!! Never thought about it like that but that is probably the best thing about doing dishes, and what is it that you hate drinking from plastic?

    • @Nat_Hedges
      @Nat_Hedges Месяц назад

      @@theoverlyopinionatedpodcast The shallowest dislike that I have about drinking from plastic is that it just feels cheap/poor. An abbreviated explanation of my deeper dislike of drinking from plastic is the following: Arguably-inferior plastic drinkware came to be popular mostly due to its low cost of mass manufacturing which is directly linked to the rise of globalism and the problems it's caused. Glass drinkware has been in use since the beginning of human civilization. Choosing to drink from glass rather than plastic is a super easy way to hold onto the connection to our oldest ancestors and to appreciate their technology.

    The act of asking a father for his blessing in marriage comes from ancient Rome. Typically, the man would gift the father a gold coin to “buy” the daughter, since at the time they were viewed as the father’s property. Ultimately, the decision was solely up to the brides father, and not the bride.

    I love how proliferant fireworks have become since Ohio legalized them and Akron loosened up some rules about them. Hearing what sounds like artillery being fired from the next street over just makes me chuckle. Savon is for sure on to something about black people not determining what constitutes black entertainment. There's an interesting conspiracy theory about [people who wear small hats] using their media influence to manipulate the black community so as to keep them in a perpetual state of generational trauma, victim mentality, and financial dependence, among other things. Slavery in America never ended, it just looks different than it used to. There is however, a dangerous paradox associated with this theory. That is, if you believe it, then you believe in an ongoing oppressor/oppressed struggle and may be more susceptible to a victim mentality. The solution, regardless of who you think is behind the manipulation, is for each of us to personally lift, from our own mind, the vail of deception, uncover and understand the truth, and take deliberate action to control our own fate. I think this topic warrants further discussion, but this comments section is not the proper forum for that discussion. I've never seen Black Panther, but it sounds like its message applies to a wider audience than just black folks, so I'm going to take the recommendation and give it a watch!

      You are spot on with that analysis because i see too much and i am even guilty (Dee) of the victim mentality, but it is to hard to look past for me! I think in all honesty that if you don’t think there is an oppressor than you are just turning the blind eye

    Good ep today. However, I do have one question. There was a segment where you guys were going back and forth about the BET awards, and if it truly reflects black culture. I believe one of you made the claim that the ass shaking / dancing isn’t a true depiction of black culture. Does it bother you, or could understand how it could bother someone else, that one of the most prominent nights in black milestones in entertainment displays how other cultures / races tend to perceive (per the videos words) the African American community instead of truthfully displaying what black culture is?

    • @theoverlyopinionatedpodcast
      @theoverlyopinionatedpodcast Месяц назад

      That was the point there. Pointing out how BET may intentionally show one thing that may be detrimental to how the culture is seen. Hoping to discourage people from buying into “culture’s biggest night”.

    Thanks for the shoutout fellas. I appreciate your appreciation of my appreciation of this podcast, and whatever else you appreciate about me. I feel the love. Everything mentioned that scream "look at me" to you do the same to me... except the new Broncos! I think that the mix of classic and modern styling has been a great departure from the ubiquitous, characterless styling of most other modern SUVs and crossovers. I love the use of straight lines. I love the round headlights and the boxy taillights. I love the focus on functionality and utility. I love the option for a manual transmission. I love the proportions of the shorter wheelbase 2-door version *chef's kiss*. The popularity of these cars is not at all surprising to me. Some things that scream "look at me" by definition: posting selfies and acting flamboyant. Some additional things that scream "look at me" to me: impractically large houses, perfectly manicured lawns, exotic car colors, large and lifted trucks, intentionally loud guns, belly button piercings, super long nails, leggings with butt scrunches, expensive sunglasses, and fat watches. No disrespect intended. I think we can recognize that many of these things are attractive in some way: imagine a tattooed girl with stacked ear piercings, peaky short shorts, and a belly button piercing exposed by a lacy crop top steps out of the driver seat of an exotic car and puts her Ray Bans up in her purple hair... daaaang. Naming cars is fun. We have Roxanne, a little red Bimmer, and Linda, a black Jeep Patriot. Littering is crazy, one of the scummiest acts one could commit.

Fuck their blimp. "Do other places blimp it up?" was a great question. Turns out that Goodyear has 3 of only 5 active blimps in the US, so it's fair to say that Akron is one of very few places that be still be blimpin'. Everyone has a phone now, even the poorest among us, so no one cares to steal phones anymore. The cellular carriers' business model is garbage. Just buy whatever phone you want, unlocked, online. Activate it yourself. No BS car salesman antics. No contracts. Switch carriers anytime. Holding your pee until you get home is worth it 9 times out of 10.

    The belief that women overreact or are overly dramatic is the reason the maternal mortality rates are insanely high, it’s the reason why I was sent home from the hospital while I was in full blown labor, and gave birth at home on a living room floor. Had a doctor look me in the eye and accuse me of faking my contractions just to go home and have a baby hrs later. Needless to say, this is incredibly dangerous when it comes to the health and safety of my baby, and I. I had a gender reveal for my last kid, and it’s definitely wasn’t for attention. We didn’t even post it. We had two daughters and were hopeful this would be our son. We also had a lot of family members who were invested as well, so we had a small get together. As a result, my daughter has a beautiful painting in her room from when we popped a balloon with beautiful messages written to her from all of her loved ones.

No question or denial from us on this one, we are haters when it comes to gender reveals… but always more power to those like yourself that wish to partake.

    Not only was I personally attacked because I enjoy a nice shopping vlog, but Darion also asked me how much is in my bank account and for my address, all in one episode 😂

    Savon you are absolutely correct. Women and especially black women have terrible healthcare. We are rarely taken seriously and this is facts and have always been a thing. I rarely go to the doctor because of it. I will say that I have had better luck with nurse practitioners instead of doctors. This is why we have to advocate for ourselves and essentially force providers into giving you the next step if results come back normal. I don’t really care for gender reveals, I didn’t do it with my son. Although I don’t care for them, I don’t judge people who do it.

      Self-advocacy is the only idea we came up with. There must be something else we could do about the gender bias… but we don’t know. Definitely hate that y’all deal with that. And hate the fact it took so long for us to find out. You’re better than us when it comes to judging the revealers… they are oddballs to us. Thank you for interacting! Hope you enjoyed the episode. Make sure you eat breakfast every day so you don’t overreact and go to the hospital!

    Having less than $1000 in my checking account makes me uncomfortable. I'm frequently uncomfortable. Setting up a camera to walk in on is super cringe, so it hurts to admit that sometimes it makes for a great shot. I want to try to accept and appreciate NPCs more by adjusting the figurative lens that I view them through. NPCs are a programmed component of the ultimate RPG, the Game of Life, providing the goods and mundane services that playable characters need to enjoy the game, and allowing us to focus on the quests that we embark on. The pyramids were built by aliens with technology that is unknown to us. The plot twist is that we're the aliens. We just lost the knowledge.

      Discomfort seems to be our general position, then. I think we’ll keep willingly overlooking the great shot for realness. Great f*n take on NPCs. They are a necessary part of “The Game”. Congrats. That one’s in my back pocket now. As long as the earth ain’t flat, I can entertain almost any conspiracy theory. Maybe we’re aliens.
