So this is my daily driver since December 2017, an early 2004 Volvo V40 2.0T Automatic. I've done a couple of small mods; installed a BSR pod filter shield and a cheap pod filter, as well as a Simons cat-back exhaust and a set of 17-inch aftermarket wheels, and a set of Bosch driving lights. The turbocharger has been replaced with a brand new reproduction one. Engine is not consuming any notice...

The old exhaust system broke at the rear axle and the old quattro muffler was droning and a bit too loud and sharp for my taste. I tried a 2-inch Dynomax Super Turbo muffler on my N12 Cherry and really liked the mellow sound. So this is how the T12 sounds with the same kind of muffler, but 2.5-inch. Temperature outside was -11C.

The old timing belt tensioner had been noisy almost from the beginning when it was brand new, but this one is silent and only thing I can hear ticking now are the fuel injectors.

The tensioner seems to have a shot bearing. The idle was slightly unstable in this video due to me running the engine without having the oil dipstick in place (had to remove it to remove the timing belt cover, forgot to put the dipstick back)

This kind of noise is clearly audible when the engine is cold. Sounds like the cam belt tensioner, unfortunately.

My previous remanufactured alternator failed within the warranty period. The replacement unit is working fine, let's hope it stays working. Idle is stable and throttle response is crisp but smooth.

Idle is slightly unstable at these cold temperatures but all in all it's running well. Should have replaced that washer fluid though, this time of year it has to be at least capable of -36 degrees centigrade without freezing. I had some -11 degree fluid there so naturally it froze.

      Veikkaisin sähkövikaa itse mittarissa. Se ottaa sytytyspuolasta signaalinsa niin ei pitäisi mittarin pomppia ollenkaan jos moottori muuten käy tasaisesti.

      @@rgtwergf joo ei, ratkaisuna on vaihtaa koko mittaritaulu toisesta cherrystä tai jos on näppärä sormistaan, voi vaihtaa kierroslukumittarin toisesta cherryn mittaritaulusta. Mittarit rupeavat olemaan jo sen ikäisiä että ne rupeavat reistaamaan. Itsellä sekä polttoainemittari, lämpötilamittari että nopeusmittari ovat vuorotellen menneet hajalle. Kierroslukumittari on minulla ainoa joka ei ole vielä rikkoontunut.

Tiedätkö sanoa, olisiko netissä tai sulla ohjeistusta tarkempaa tähän hommaan, mitä ottaa huomioon, mitä kaikkea vaihtaa niillä kilometreillä siinä samalla (300 tkm. mittaris)? En löydä itse aiheesta juuri mitään netistä, puhumattakaan videoita hommasta. Ajoitus ja sen laittaminen kasatessa kohdalleen jänskättää jo nyt, siihenkään ei ohjetta missään, englanniksi puhutaan jostain kolmiomerkistä ja mitä muuta? Siitä tulee savotta, se on varma.😆

      @@rgtwergf tarvitset ehdottomasti korjausoppaan. Haynes tai suomenkielinen. Hihnan saaminen kohdalleen oikein (merkintöjen mukaan) ja kiristusrullan säätö ovat kriittisiä. Ilman opasta en lähtisi kokeilemaan ensimmäistä kertaa. Kannen kiinnitykseen tarvitset momenttiavaimen ja oikean mallisen hylsyn, pultin pää ei ole tavallinen 6-kantti vaan tähtimallinen. Ja kun kansi on irti pitää tarkistaa kannen suoruus metallisella viivoittimella ristiin kaikkiin suuntiin. Suoruusvaatimukset ja mittausohjeet löytyy korjausoppaasta. Jos vähänkään poikkeaa niin kansi on pakko viedä konepajalle koneistettavaksi koska muuten uusi kannentiiviste falskaa tai kansi voi haljeta vähän ajan päästä. (Silloin menee koko kansi vaihtoon tai sitten on vietävä kansi erikoisliikkeeseen joka hitsaa sylinterikansia kuntoon.) Suosittelen uusia kansipultteja, vanhat voivat kiristettäessä katketa. Ja uusi jakopäänhihna ja kiristinrulla on kans erittäin vahvasti suositeltavat hankinnat samalla.

    Turns out the distributor was the problem. Once tried to put the old distributor back on the car and the sputtering reappeared. It was not the distributor cap nor the rotor because I got new ones. So there was something about the ignition module inside the distributor that was not functioning properly. I miss this car, had to sell it in 2018 due to lack of storage space, I got a new daily driver in December 2017 because this car was no longer reliable enough to get to work, it was just breaking down too often.

      Einlaß zündkerzen sind hinter dem Motor (näher an der Kabine), außlaß sind vor dem Motor. Zugang zu den einlaß zündkerzen ist leider ein bißchen schwer, mann muß ein doppelgelenk-zündkerzenwerkzeug genutzen. Wenn neue zündkerzen installieren, es ist etwas swierig das richtige Drehmoment zu erreichen (25-28 Nm). Normalerweise ziehe ich die zündkerzen fest und lockert sie ein paar mal bevor ich das richtige Drehmoment an den Zündkerzen anwende.

    Very nice im from the US and I love my 83 b11 with the e16 310k miles and still running strong stock trans sadly let go at 307k miles so I found a low mileage (around 98k miles) one and put in her but due to an accident I had earlier this year I haven't been able to drive it all year

    May I ask you a question about lacquering your Nissan N12? After a long search I got a Nissan Cherry Milan X1. I had such a back in 1996/1997 and was really happy about it. Now such a Nissan N12 has become Veteran car here in Denmark and I have some time searched for one and it has now succeeded. It is similar to a GL but with integrated electric sunroof. Now to the question. The Nissan Cherry Milani X1 have a cowardly code called 390. This code should consist of a black 505 and the yellow 016. The color you have painted your N12 in what is it called?

    where did you find the floor mats, seats, and mud flaps.?.. i"m struggling to find those in my country, the netherlands. did you import them ?

      Mud flaps I bought from the local Finnish car parts store called "motonet". They are just universal mud flaps with "NISSAN" printed on them. Haven't seen them in a while at the store though. Floor mats were also a universal model from motonet. The seats I bought from a guy who was scrapping his Nissan Cherry N12 SGL. The SGL trim features the same seats as the N12 Turbo except for the missing "TURBO" text on the backrests.

    Had a semi-blown out stock muffler on the old N12, probably the best sounding muffler I've heard on the N12 (sounded like a WW1-era plane when going through tunnels etc lol)

    How much was your idle rpm? Mine has the same engine, and I actually lifted the idle rpm a little bit, so that the engine won't shake like hell at 500-600 rpm. I use like around 800 idle. And like this, when the auto choke turns off (the engine is not warm enough yet) it has an rpm around 500-600m later it becomes 800.

      I usually set it to around 850 rpm, after adjusting the ignition right (750 rpm while adjusting).

    Hi What is the real power of the E15S engine? I see on Nissan 80-ties Cherry Europe Special brochures "75PS", sometimes I find Prairie with e15s 85PS, Pulsar EXA. DOes it have 75 or 85 PS? DOes enybody know?

      As far as I know, there are some minor differences regarding compression and leaded vs unleaded fuel. The standard E15S in my country outputs 75 PS. I am not aware of the specifics of the E15S output specs but the E15ET definitely had a clear difference between different versions. The different compression ratio gave some versions of the E15ET 105 PS (black rocker cover Aussie edition) and some others 115 PS (for instance Japanese red rocker cover edition). Also, there is a difference between ISO PS and Imperial HP, which may cause some confusion. But I believe you can google that up if you want to know more. I'm not able to confirm whether 85PS from a stock E15S is a fact or a myth. If you're interested, try asking at facebook.com/groups/N12Turbo. Someone may know there, although they probably are more interested of the E15ET engine rather than the E15S.

      That would be nice, I like the S12. I would be familiar with the engine straight away, since it's also running SOHC CA series engines. And it would be my first RWD Nissan. Time will tell...

    Mitä vittua... Äänestä luulin että vanha kunnon CD-17 diesel siellä ropsuttaa, mutta olikin E-15 bensa :D Toi serry tuli pari kertaa vastaan kesällä 2015 rantatiellä Vaasa-Pori ja joku naikkonen sitä polki menemään... oli muuten molemmilla hyvät ilmeet kohdatessa :D

      +Thivanka Kumara Hello there. I don't know many alternative carburetors, but I was a few years ago looking at a Weber 32/36 DGV. Redline Carburetors makes a adapter flange that makes the 32/36 DGV carburetor fit the E15 engine. Regarding dashboards, I am not sure. The Sunny B11 dashboard may fit but I am not 100 percent sure. If you have facebook, I would recommend that you look up a group called "N12 ET Turbo Pulsar / N12 Exa Turbo enthusiasts". They may be able to help, or at least know somebody that can give you advice. I hope this helps!
