Peñíscola in Spain is a wonderful destination. Especially during off-season with only a few tourists, the magic of the historical center and the castle was on full display.

Come along for a relaxing bicycle ride to the beautiful spanish town of Piñéscola, a medieval city with a magnificent castle. It is still winter time and therefore the tourist season has not begun yet. We start our ride from our base in Benicarló.

It is February 2024. We are on a bicycle ride from Benicarló to Vinarós. It is still winter but the weather in Spain is beautiful and just perfect for cycling. I must say, the conditions for a cyclist in Spain are really great. There are dedicated bike lines along almost every street. Perhaps that is not true for all of Spain but it was certainly true in Roses and the area around Benicarló. And...

Benicarló, Spain. Beach walk. February 2024. This is the beach stretching out between Benicarló and Vinarós. The winter is mild in Spain, the water though is still very cold. Even if the beach is rough (or in spite of that), it has a special flair. And there are even sandy patches with comfortable access for a dive.

Roses in January 2024. It is off season. Hotels and most of the restaurants are still closed. Temperatures during the day are between 15 and 20 degrees celsius. The Mediterranean is still cold and provides for a constant chilly breeze. The highest temperature we measured inland was 24°C. However, the sun is shining at it is just nice to enjoy the outdoors.

This is one of many excavated lakes along the River Rhine valley in Germany. Filmed in July 2022. The footage is from the DJI Mini 2. At the time is was very windy with strong gusts. The “Kramer Eiche” (Kramer Oak) is located in the Southwest of Germany in the district Karlsruhe. It was planted around the year 1630 during the “Thirty Years War”.

Quarry Pond in Germany, Langenbruecken. In German it’s called Baggersee. ‘Bagger’ stands for digger. ‘See’ stands for lake. They are common in the River Rhine Valley. They’re digging for sand used for building. Parts of those lakes or ponds are renaturalized and used for fishing and other water sports activities.
