If you dont mind asking where is the entrance to steele peek, years ago christmas tree lane was our spot we would take our trash cans and rakes to pickup our shells and leave our areas clean. I wish other had the same intentions.
Yes, the entrance was at Christmas Tree Lane. I agree, if more people cleaned up like you after shooting, the place would probably still be open.

Doc Chakemco you didnt use a gimbal or stabalizer?
Had to watch the video again to remember. All the footage of the road in was shot with the GoPro attached to the windshield behind the rearview mirror. Standard suction cup mount and the image was inverted as the camera was attached upside down to accommodate for the space behind the mirror. All other GoPro footage was handheld. I had a digital camcorder for the steel target close ups.
Wow... I cant believe you didnt use a gimbal. No camera shake at all on the off road footage. And that road is bumpy.
So I take it I would have zero problem in my 4x4 f150 with an 8" lift? I tried Hodge Road the other day, but there are way too many people there, and I want to try long range shooting (200yrds +). Thanks for the great video!
Yup, no worries. You should be able to get to the deepest parts of the shooting area on the back side of the hill.

Fernando, Not sure how but I removed you comment. As far as safety of the area is concerned, my opinion is this....try to stay away from the areas near the entrance. It seems that the shooters closest to the entrance create the biggest mess and care less about shooting safety than those who can get to the back side of the hills. Again, this is purely my opinion based on what I have seen on my last few visits.
nice video,good shooting. I went a couple times in a 2wd 4runner and went in about 2/3 mile and went down a rutted hill and had trouble getting back up not sure if u know the spot I'm talking about , but I was afraid to go further of fear It might get rougher and get stuck,would I be fine continuing? all vehicles I saw going forward were 4x4 as well
Thanks :) I know exactly where you are talking about. My F150 has a hard time getting over that spot coming back out. Seems to get worse every time I go. Once you are past that spot, it's pretty flat as far as the eye can see.
yea I had to gun it on towards the side which is steeper but smoother cuz I kept losing traction coming up the ruts cuz of my open diff 2wd. thanks for the info I'm just waiting for it to open back up and I will definitely take it in further

AR 15s shooting .223 reloads. That steel target is about 125 yards out.
is this place open to the public? looking for a area to sight our rifles but most areas around me are closed due to the fires. where is this located? would appreciate ur help
Yes, but not during fire season so call the BLM before you make the drive out there 760-833-7100

I was out there on Sunday Jan. 24th. How do I get to this place? I want to go somewhere that's not to crowded and with distance so I can shoot long range.
+theschuntz Best to have a vehicle with decent ground clearance. Once you get there, follow the dirt path. The better spots are on the opposite side of the hill near the entrance. The spot in the video is at least 10 minutes past the entrance. Hokanut says there are 200-1000 yard areas a few minutes past my normal spot.
Have you guys seen any area out there to go out to 200-300+ yards? I've only been there once last year before fire season but only went to the top of the entrance to have a quick look around.
+hokanut I had hoped to scout out an area just like you describe. Unfortunately, the place has been shutdown for fire season. Hoping they open it up soon so I can find a deeper area... at least 200 yards.
+hokanut its open now.. theres a private area if you go back out on the road and go west about 15min drive you can shoot 1000+ yards. Few know about it i found out talking to one of the locals. This area you see on the video you can find 200-300 yard areas.

+Doc Chakemco no problem.. if you got 4x4 you can find some nice 300yrds - 1000+ yards areas. Shoot me a pm and ill email you some google earth coordinates. Just be sure to take your trash with you

Doc Chakemco Hi great Video, is this place still open. i see a bunch of stuff on google how blm wanted to shut it down because of people acting like pigs.
Galarid87 Yes, it's open, but the BLM typically shuts it down when there is a high fire danger. I always suggest calling the BLM the day before you plan on shooting to make sure it's open. BLM 760-833-7100

***** According to Google maps, about 30 minutes via the 215 freeway. Best to call the BLM the day before to make sure it's not closed due to weather, fire, or clean-up. BLM 760-833-7100
Never happened to me, but been reading about BCG stuck in forward position. Could be be any number of things from stuck casing to something more severe. I'd take the upper to a gunsmith to be safe.

My charging handle and BCG are locked forward and i can't pull it back... do you know how ti un-jam it?
