Hi George -- My wife and I were enthusiastic to start using your great-looking, well-explained spreadsheet. But we quickly ran into trouble. (1) We changed the expense categories in "Lists", reducing the total number. (2) When we tried to sort alphabetically per instructions, the first few spaces were blank. When I scrolled down, I could see the alphabetized list, but the first spaces were blank. (3) I read that I should "resize the table". I wasn't sure how. (4) Going to an Excel tutorial, I saw I should go to 'Table Tools' and then "Design" and then "Resize Table". Trouble is, in your spreadsheet I can't seem to get to "Design"! The toolbar goes (L to R) from "Home" through "page layout" through "data" etc. to end at "Help" and "Arc GIS", whereas with "Table Tools" I should see "Design" to the right and with "PivotTable" I should see "Analyze" and "Design" to the right. So now my wife and I are discouraged -- not sure if will purchase some budgeting product or drop the exercise altogether (and we suffer by having no family budget). Any advice welcome... otherwise we appreciate and wish you well with your initiative. P.S. Maybe I'm not the greatest on Excel but I'm not a newbie... have been using it nearly constantly since grad school 30 years ago.

none of the projections work for me; either in the projections tab or the budget tab. They're all zeros

Where do you record any refunds received on your credit cards? If under expense table, which category? 2. How can I include regular/monthly money set aside for investments.

Hi I have downloaded the template and filled it. I think it works well but is there a way I can see cumulative amount of money I put aside for a specific reason let say dentist, if I put 100$ a month for that where can I see what's in my account below dentist? Sorrry Im french hahaha

How do I change the currency sign from $ to £ please?

This budget workbook is DOPE... It would take me at least a week to build this out... More complicated than the 2024 budget forecast plan we built for our entire company!

I downloaded this template in Nov 2023. Everything works fine. But, only problem is projections tab. It shows only months from 2019 to 2021. How can I update it to show me projections for 2023-24?

I did not want to make one on my own... you've pretty much done it all for me right here!

Will this work with Libre Calc? When I tried to open this with 2003 Excel it said it was not able. So I opened with Libre Calc. Then in some areas it gave me an error ERR:508. Which meant it was missing a beginning or ending parenthesis. I can't see any missing so I am still trying to solve that problem.

In the expenses tab there are missing columns the date and the place columns. How do I fix this?

I have been looking for a budget and tracking ss that uses "buckets" for annual expenses but tracks monthly money set aside for the inevitable expense. didnt see it here.

I only began using your template several months ago but it’s fantastic ! Only issue I’ve ever run into is running out of categories for some things (and not knowing how to add formulas to extend it for more categories).. and accidentally messing up something but it makes it so easy to find what’s throwing off the template ! Lol it’s usually because I rename something and forget to set it all as that renamed category. Haha can’t wait for any new updates but it’s really perfect

Hi, what a great program I hope to use it in our household array. I am however stuck on one issue. The [projections] page only goes to December 2021. For some reason I am having trouble getting the tables to extend out to 2024 without messing up formulas or other confusion. Can anybody help me here? I am opening in Microsoft 365 Home and would consider myself a novice user. I have tried dragging the tables out, or copying and special fill by month, etc but can't seem to get it right. Thanks.

I prefer using monthly bottom-line expenses and percentages per each budget account based on that bottom line. In this, the more I make, the more I am able to save per account. Example: I make about 622.50 a week, which comes out to about 2,645.50 monthly. My monthly bottom line for expenses is 2,200. This means the monthly amount for each account that is pre-established, including expected mandatory bills such as rent and utilities and insurance, need not be completely re-calculated each payday, and each account saves more each payday than the bottom line so long as the bottom line is less than the actual monthly amount earned. Let's say I have the following: Rent - $450 per month as my monthly bottom line. (5 people, 1 rental house, $1350 monthly; I pay extra for my sister, niece, and brother-in-law) My total bottom line is $2,200 The percentage would be calculated as 450 / 2200 = 20.45% Dave Ramsey suggestions a rent/mortgage between 25% and 33%, about 1/4 to 1/3 of your income. You can see I easily beat this. I stated I make about 2,645.50 monthly. 2645.50 x 20.45% = 541.00, which is $91 more each month saved for rent. Now, extrapolate that across the entire budget and you have your 3-6 months savings (Dave Ramsey's Baby Step 3; though, I advocate for 12-months savings specifically for sinking accounts and earning interest in Money Market accounts on expenses saved) already being saved while you are simply running your standard budget. Little bit of work on the front-end, maximum payout on the back-end. Lastly, I recommend financial study in these areas if you are just starting out, Budgeting 101, Double-Entry Accounting 101, Data Analysis 101, and Financial Strategy 101. These four basics make a financial cycle: Budget > DE Accounting > Data Analysis > Financial Strategy > Budgeting. As a result, Quality Assurance is built into this financial process to improve itself simply by using it as intended. Hope this inspires some great ideas. I believe you will all do well.

hi how would i add in a pie chart for the chatagrys

George, I appreciate your workbook, however, it appears I cannot change any of the categories as explained in the lists tab. Its likely due to me using a MacBook. Any thoughts?
