Radishes .. The frost has killed all of the buckwheat. All the buckwheat that was planted before September 15 managed to produce viable seed - it is good for a short season, but not frost tolerant the way chicory, radish and cabbages are. Although they are not in flower right now, there are several medicago sativa (alfalfa, for the normal folks) around that are taking advantage of the mild winter to put on some greenery. One established, an alfalfa plant can come back year after year, allowing you to 'prune' it for fertilizer and growth hormone for the rest of your garden for 4-8 years before needing to be replanted. Mints - all of them, even the ones that don't smell 'minty' - can be quickly identified by their square stems and leaves appearing in opposing pairs along the stem.

The impending destruction from that sycamore is the main reason that the back corner is in such disrepair - I'm not quite so eager to build much there, until I am satisfied that the work will not be wasted. Who knows .. perhaps by the time we have the carport and garage down, providence will follow with the tree .. and the only problem will be reconnecting the power line and repairing the fence at the breach. Otherwise, we might be able to work something out to get a tree crew on that monster - it has nearly damaged the house over in ITS yard once already with shedding limbs. Their insurance company may insist on bringing it under control. I would, if I was going to be on the hook for damages 🤷🏻‍♂

Yep .. add in one extra plant to attract one extra bug .. and then let the ducks clean up. Before, I had to go out and manually chase the hoppers out of the tops .. fine when its early morning and you're knocking pollen around, but they come right back. Spare sunflower seeds feed some of the other birds that 'work' for us 😊🌳
