Hey! not sure if people are still active on here but I am adding a turbo to a 186fa and I was wondering where you drilled for your oil feed line. Thanks!
Also want to do this
Dónde o quien tiene un turbo para adaptar a un motor 186f
@@antoniojoseordosgoitiavarg8524 I had to weld it up myself Additionally the large square plenum feeding the engine was 3x the displacement or about 1.2 liters to buffer and absorb boost surge. Inside that plenum I had a high pressure fin mist water injection liquid intercooler.
UPDATE??
You're awesome!
You have no idea how bad I want this! 🤣🤣
Do have a list of parts you used?
Only what I specify while talking in these videos
@@BrentHasty thanks for your video. I look at doing the same but putting two 200w ptc heater in front of cabin air filter just before the air hits the air conditioning Evaporator. Hopefully it will fit and should allow preheating
@@CrashUK28 use 8 gauge wire to feed them, 400w at 12v is a lot of amps, use a heavy duty relay to match. But the more watts will be nice
@@BrentHasty I know it's already been asked, but any chance you still have part numbers to the switches and/or relay? I measured 20x35mm for the empty switch blank, but can't seem to find switches that will install cleanly like you have. Thanks!
@skyblaster7 I just used off the shelf parts, I have relays by the box standard automotive (get big amp rating), the stitches were from the auto parts \ electronics store. The blanks in the Nissan dash panel I just drilled out. If I did it again I would run 6 gauge copper. And a heavier duty relay. More heat watts would be great, but at 12vdc the amps get silly. I ended up having the watts of heat due to continuous amp load relay\wire heating issues. Either that or use better silicone or better yet oven fiberglass insulated wire.
There you go, no more gas crisis.
Can you do a more in depth video? I have the same engine and turbo and have the same plan
Sorry no, sold that bike years ago on ebay for 7K. Now I'm all electric because brushless rotary motors are superior to flailing engines in every way. Significantly superior! It is much easier to harvest sunshine than filter fry grease....
Hello, I have built this same setup, but I drilled and tapped a 3/8 air vent into the valve cover. I did not plug the pcv valve because the vent to atmosphere should be enough to mitigate the case pressure?? Do I still need to plug the PCV? You can check out my build process on my channel. Thanks!
If you start blowing out the oil then yes, but see how it goes first.
Works grat!!
Great, glad to help
where is the sport?

Why do you bother to put bicycle pedals on this thing ?
Because I always wanted to pedal past highway traffic... As fast and convenient as a motorcycle, with exercise.
Way too Rube Goldberg for me but as an engineering exorcize...impressive!
Agreed, after building this then building the zephyr trike, I ditched the piston and went all in on the far superior electron drivetrain.
Have you thought of making a corn maze out of your whole garden
Have yet to get a good crop of corn, stir fry peas do well...
The one thing I love about Recumbent trikes they use no gas!!! kinda defeats the purpose!!!
Different purpose, this goes the distance fast with a load. Hill's or valley's

No, but custom builds like these still available. Contact us through hastyheat.com Keeping families warm always earned a better living than chopper builds.
I like it, but shame it's not legal in do many places.
Grandfathered into when it was built, a assisted bicycle was allowed up to a 50cc assist up to 35mph.
@@BrentHasty the states here in Australia ban motor on bicycles, they're referred to as motorcycles.

Good idea. I use a 12v dc to 120v ac inverter to run individual space heaters. Very little impact on range. Where did you get your heaters from?
Ebay, 10$ each
Thanks for the heating element suggestion. I have, however, installed them inside the vent distribution box, where the PTC heater used to be. More details in my video: ruclips.net/video/gqqgfjfIgLk/видео.html Also made a plugin for OVMS that allows to turn them on/off automatically when climate control is on with heat on. Will make video about that later.
My car is a 2012 so it's PTC was a water heater box under the hood
Any ideas on the MPG for this one?
About 250
@@BrentHasty That is really amazing! What is the longest you have driven it? You have quite a big tank there :)
@@futurecaredesign 400 miles in one day!

Hi Brent. I inadvertently put my pvc valve in backwards and blewout two oil seals. So I drilled out the port you demonstrated but didn't plan on plugging the port on the inside of the valve cover. I was going to of corse install the pvc properly and vent it through the newly drilled port to the atmosphere. I didn't realize that it was designed to vent through the untake. I thought they plugged the pvc port to pass some kind of EPA rules.
How did you discover about the pvc port.
Good info, and forcing atmospheric vent vs intake plenum vent is a good idea. I vented to a tube on the vacuum side of the turbo, but the vacuum may have been too much. I like your to atmosphere idea better.
@@barrett9631 by trade I'm a airplane mechanic, I knew enough to look for it, especially when adding boost.
@@BrentHasty thank you for the reply Brent. I
Do you know how much power does it generate? Is it the standard engine or do you change Piston rings or something else? Please help me.
The stock 10 HP diesel probably made about 15 HP under 8psi boost, but I had no way to measure. To that the electric would add 6 more HP.
This piece is severely underrated! just using the Peltier effect material is great. Please tell me you finished it
I got this build about 90% done, then I built my first all electric trike the zephyr. Experiencing the power, efficiency, and simplicity of an all electric power train was a paradigm shift I have never looked back from. I have since eliminated the need for petrol in my life and banished the carburetor from my yard tools, and gone solar powered off grid with my welding shop. This was my next chopper build, a 2 wheel drive 12 kw human hybrid electric 75 mph motorcycle... ruclips.net/video/R48JfqJ9ODc/видео.html
Sir can you teach me or can you give a manual how to install the turbo to single diesel engine..thank you
My videos are the best information i have I have graduated from building greasel flailing vehicles to building BLDC electric vehicles.
What the hell 😂
Many more details about this CHP wood pellet stove by hastyheat.com are available on RUclips and Pinterest now.
How do you carry gear? With a trailer?
I used a set of panniers and saddle bags, as well as a trailer. The spines on the tank were functional, as full grocery bags could be hung off of them
If my defroster stopped working all together will this be good enough as a replacement? The dealer wants $3500 to do a repair. The blower and air conditioner still work.
Even with a working defrost this mod works better and saves a lot of winter range. The heated floors are priceless, helping dry the floor and keep our toes cozy. If I were to do it again, I would use a PTC heater with built in fan like this one: rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.com%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F172668162215 Then I could defrost in recirculation mode That and a max 300 watts not 400 watts, we seldom run these on high and 400 watts is right in the edge of maximum for the wiring. 200 watts is enough for a good defrost even at -25 here in Finland.
@@BrentHasty "If I were to do it again, I would use a PTC heater with built in fan ": But would you mount theme at the same place as you did in the video?
Yes these can work as primary defrost
@@thorx765 yes in the same place so it can work together with the existing C and fan. It is important the hot air is blowing up the window not perpendicular at the window.
@@BrentHasty any reason you would go for the "100W 12V PTC Car Fan Air Heater Constant Temperature Heating Element Heaters"(the ebay link) instead of the same ones you used in the video in 100w versions?
Did you ever finish this... what size fittings for oil line
Yes, sold it on eBay for 8000, it now is a daily commuter for Thomas in Texas 1\8 NPT fitting and lines were used for the feed, and 3\8 return line.
You realize thats a boost port right?
Pointing at the black tube, not the brass fitting. Vacuum side not pressure side of the turbo... For those who might be confused
Yes hand built Motorcycle hydraulic disc brakes, and custom laser cut rotors that bolt to bicycle hubs for disc brakes Welded to the frame what we needed.

I have mounted two 200w ptc hesters just like this and it works well! I am wondering if it would be ok to fit another two?? For faster defrosting. Is 400w to much for the dc to dc converter??
@@erlendhammersmarkhansen6359 Brent stated in a different comment that 400w was at the edge of limit of the wires . (So more will melt the insolation.)
I melted the insulation on 10 gauge wire powering a 180 w PTC fuel heater for my Dodge Cummins with it and a glass of water at 40° . This comment is just for perspective and context is comparing apples to pineapples. the word apple is involved (PTC)
I measured 28A at 12vdc (236W) a 56W over run.
@@daviddroescher I have separate whires for the adittional two ptc hesters i have ready, so melting whires will not be a problem. I am worried that four of these ptc hester elements can damage dc-dc converter?? and that can be expencive to fix
Brent, I'm doing the same thing except with a K03 turbo, I have run it and seems fine across the board, but is the venting absolutely necessary? What is the max pressure allocated before break down? I have a few videos of it running on my channel if you might want to hear it. Looking forward to your reply, Mitch
Hockey47Mitsch as I understand it is not a good idea to pressurize the crankcase on any piston engine, it is best to evacuate it!
Thx bro
Now I'm working on tooling up a jet engine to burn sawdust!
Putting a turbo on an engine not designed for one, causes heat and wear problems. Larger engines that have turbo and natural versions, usually have lower compression pistons in the turbo version. Also running and producing a higher hp will also increase exhaust gas temperatures. Excessive EGTs will cause wear in the rings, cylinder and valves. You could cut the engine life in half, maybe much less life.
Ocean Mariner agreed such things must be done with cautious intellegence, but that does not mean it is impossible, just problems to be addressed and solved. This why I shared this important info for others bennifet
To add to this note that the stock pistons in these are complete cast aluminum. Diesel turbo rated pistons are normally cast aluminum with a steel ringland inserts so i would expect shorter time between rebuilds on these and 8 psi is Nothing.
Dude, these engines run a very low compression ratio for a diesel, 19:1. they can handle a turbo no problem as long as you aren't over speeding it and way over boosting it. They also have pressure lubrication for the crankshaft and rod. And at the end of the day any diesel is better with turbocharging.
@@A_Man_In_His_Van Not so. Natural aspirated diesels are designed with a HP and EGTs in mind. People that add a turbo are either after more hp (that leads to higher EGTs) or to install a smaller diesel by getting more HP out of it (that also leads to high EGTs). Naturals are built with components designed to withstand expected temps. Turbo engines, besides having different pistons, often have better cooling, wider bearings, heavier rods, higher fuel flow (extra fuel passing thru the injectors cools the injector tip and returns to the tank), some engines have different water passages or a different head, and sodium filled valves to cool the mushroom end. No I don't have any experience with little diesels, but any engine producing temps above design will have a shorter life. Period.
Like eating an elephant, a piece at a time... This is now living in Texas after auctioning it off on ebay
@foraging seeker as originally built it was setup to burn fry grease, one tank was for heavy oils, the other for warm-up and shutdown purge on pump diesel light oil.
wouldn't the boost cause the engine to get too hot and be in the grounds of water cooled ?
lucian kristov we use a boost actuated aquamist intercooler to address that
lucian kristov no our older tank diesels were air cooled and turbo charged m60 series tanks
