Been DOING AS an ALT for almost 17 years here in Okinawa...but I just applied directly at the City Offices all over Okinawa....It's fun depending on the school or city or district, You have to handle your own conversation class OR do a TEAM TEACHING with your co-Japanese English teachers ( 6 to 9 Japanese English teachers in a school ). Your job,except for "teaching" ? Well, like every school year , be ready to COACH / DIRECT/ COMPOSE- EDIT ENGLISH : SPEACHES, STORYTELLING, AND ENGLISH STAGEPLAY or ""SKIT"" for COMPETITIONS... So hectic doing practice / rehearsals ( imagine, coaching directing students that can't even read or pronounce English and let them memorize scripts wrtten /composed by you ( but you have to interview the contestants to get ideas )...Most of the time you have to coach both SPEACH and STAGE DRAMA at the same time like during summer break ----NO OVERTIME PAY!!! EVEN SAT OR SUN AND DURING AFTER SCHOOL...NO EXTRA PAY -----YOU MOSTLY FINISH BY 4PM BUT HAVE TO WORK TILL 7PM ( glenn rabenitas)
