3:08 Perfect transition. Surprising, yet natural. One of the moments that feels exciting and sacred.
“Now, come along boys, and listen to my tale, And I’ll tell you of my troubles on the Chisholm Trail. CHORUS: Come-a ti-yi yippee, yippee yay, yippee yay, Come-a ti-yi yippee, yippee yay. I started up the trail October twenty-third, Left old Texas with the 2-U herd. Oh, a ten-dollar horse and a forty-dollar saddle, I’m a-gonna punchin’ them longhorn cattle. Woke up one mornin’ on the Chisholm trail, With a rope in my hand and a cow by the tail. Old Ben Bolt was a mighty good boss, But he’d go to see the gals on a soreback hoss. Well I’m up in the mornin’ before daylight, An’ before I sleep the moon shines bright. It’s cloudy in the west and a-lookin’ like rain, And my derned old slicker’s in the wagon again. Well, I crippled my hoss but I don’t know how, Ropin’ at the horns of a 2-U cow. No chaps, no slicker and its pourin’ down rain, And I swear by gosh I’ll never night herd again. Last night on guard and the leader broke the ranks, Hit my hoss down the shoulders and I scored him in the flanks. With my foot in the stirrup and my hand on the horn, I’m the best derned cowboy that ever was born. I’m on the best horse and I’m goin’ on a run I’m the quickest shootin’ cowboy that ever pull a gun. Well, we rounded them up, and we brought ’em on the cars, And that was the last of the old two-bars. Then I went to the boss for to draw my roll, He had it figured nine dollars in the hole. So I sold old Bolly and I hung up my saddle, And I bid farewell to the longhorn cattle!”* (As sung by Harry “Haywire Mac” McClintock, 1928 - A real deal cowboy!)
What’s this song called
This is in my playlist Along with "Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap" by AC/DC
I actually met a Dr. Harrigan . At least he said that that was his name
What an absolutely fantastic version of this incredible song ! Complete, all the lyrics and done superbly by gifted singers and complete with a slam bang ending ! Bravo !!!!!
Johnny could only sing one note And the note he sang was this: aaaahh Poor Johnny One Note Sang out with Gusto And just overloaded the place Poor Johnny One Note Yelled willy-nilly Until he was blue in the face For holding one note was his ace Couldn't hear the brass Couldn't hear the drum He was in a class By himself, by gum Poor Johnny One Note Got in Aida indeed a great chance to be brave He took his one note Howled like the North Wind Brought forth wind that made critics rave While Verdi turned round in his grave Couldn't hear the flute Or the big trombone Everyone was mute Johnny stood alone Cats and dogs stopped yapping Lions in the zoo Were all jealous of Johnny's big thrill Thunderclaps stopped clapping Traffic ceased its roar And they tell us Niag'ra stood still He stopped the trainwistles Boatwhistles Steamwhistles Copwhistles All whistles bowed to his skill Sing Johnny One Note Sing out with gusto And just overwhelm all the crowd Aaaahh So sing, Johnny One Note out loud Sing, Johnny One Note Sing - Johnny - One Note - Out loud
When did this come out? Cool to see an innovator at work
banger
My Dad sang this song many years ago.
I believe this is Cohan singing his own song. And yes, Cagney did a great imitation of Cohan's vocal intonation and unique dancing style.
No it’s not Cohan singing. It’s a modern recording
there’s something about this one.

I agree. This is great and so enjoyable. American all the way !
This is really good. Composed in 1941?, no wonder it has echoes of Aaron. This fun to listen to. The performance is excellent. Excellent. The two performers are like one. Slow movement is touching. Very glad to hear this. Thanks !
Dont sing it operato😢
Ah, that wonderful thirties orchestration!
신나샤 까딩키냐 (신나서 까 뒤집냐)지금도 경상도에서는 뒤집어엎는다는 말을 '까딩킨다'고 말하는 것만 봐도 한민족이라는 것을 알 수 있다.
We got some of the best cowboys in the land of Aus he'd fit right in
"My mother thanks you, my father thanks you, my sister thanks you, and I thank you." Authentic Americana from a time and a country that is gone and will never come back. We live in the twilight of the great Republic- it was great while it lasted. JMO.
hey you old hag, this shit was just propaganda to send kids to their death
Camp nebagamon anyone?
😂
Reminds me of Arvo Pärt
Johnny get your gun, get your gun, get your gun Take it on the run, on the run, on the run Hear them calling you and me Every son of Liberty Hurry right away, no delay, go today Make your daddy glad to have had such a lad Tell your sweetheart not to pine To be proud her boy's in line Over there, over there Send the word, send the word over there That the Yanks are coming, the Yanks are coming The drums rum-tumming everywhere So prepare, say a prayer Send the word, send the word to beware We'll be over, we're coming over And we won't come back till it's over, over there Johnny get your gun, get your gun, get your gun Johnny show the Hun you're a son of a gun Hoist the flag and let her fly Yankee doodle, do or die Pack your little kit, show your grit, do your bit Yankees to the ranks, from the towns and the tanks Make your mother proud of you And the old red, white and blue Over there, over there Send the word, send the word over there That the Yanks are coming, the Yanks are coming The drums rum-tumming everywhere So prepare, say a prayer Send the word, send the word to beware We'll be over, we're coming over And we won't come back till it's over, over there
Love it. Bring back wonderful memories of the Bronx and of corse my FAMILY. My parents were so patriotic they would have tears falling from their eyes
My mother’s name was Mary. Her mother used to tell her it was a grand old name.
Just finished watching Yankee Doodle Dandy. I love James Cagney's dance numbers. One of my favorite movies.

It is not nice to threaten people who memorize your songs. What if civilization crashes and there is no computer recording of this left. 🙄 Somebody has to memorize it. Stop threatening people and instilling fear in peoples hearts and minds.
OVER THERE BY GEORGE COHAN. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL, PATRIOTIC SONG EVER WRITTEN. JAMES CAGNEY WAS SPLENDID !!! AND SPECTACULAR IN THIS MOVIE. TQ 07/04/2024.
George M. Cohan died from bladder cancer in 1942, the year the movie "Yankee Doodle Dandy" premiered. A special showing was arranged for him. It's so nice that happened for him and it was reported that he loved the movie. He was an icon and greatly admired here and abroad. His funeral was held at St. Patrick Cathedral in NYC and attended by thousands. Sadly, his sister Josie died in 1916 at age 39 from cardiovascular disease. They are both buried in the same private masoleum as their parents at Woodlawn Cemetery in NY. What an incredible talent he was. "Yankee Doodle Dandy" is definitely worth a look. James Cagney richly deserved his Best Actor Oscar for same.
Not only are the lyrics great, but the music is so uplifting
Joe and Kamala also have billionaire friends! They are not like us!!
I youst to sing this when I was little girl

Very dissonant, but VERY FUNNY! ENJOY!
