Madonna Santa!!!
Milestones..No Words❤❤❤
Donald Koss on timpani. Wow!
This is my favorite of the countless Mahler 1 performances I've heard in over 50 years of enjoying this symphony. Tennstedt's superb interpretation, articulated by the great musicians of the CSO, brings the Mahler masterpiece beautifully to life.
SUBLIME!!!

Total play no. of youtube I almost win you D major key like Beethoven?
Tennstedt nailed the second movement. Actually made it graceful yet playful and exuberant.
This the North Korean Lottery numbers station - get a bag of rice if you win.
Rock solid interpretation, great sound.
This performance is a gift from God.
Absolutely top tier ❤
At times he actually seems moved to tears by the beauty of this string sound. This is becoming the Mahler 1 I come back to! (A somewhat uncultured opinion.) PS when the Eb clarinet plays the sarcastic little counter melody, it knocks me out!
Carlos Kleiber amava Tennstedt...

I have the LE version of this, sounds really nice. Can't really tell the difference between the two through listening, but I know Gold has 24-bit samples.
Tennstedt was all about the music and how to communicate with the orchestra. He was never "flashy" or self important. As in this performance. A guest conductor who could achieve a performance the equal of most music directors with their own orchestras. Audiences loved him.
Adolf Herset principal trumpet
❤
You can see his pride in the musicians. Old masters are remembered. Thank you for the wonderful recording
What a great performance and interpretation. The great CSO brass really shined. Bud Herseth was 1st chair trumpet for decades for the CSO. One of the best orchestral trumpet musicians of all time. A true master. The great CSO brass tradition continues today. If you are in Chicago go to the Symphony Center and experience this orchestra live. Sometimes the brass pierces through the orchestra from te back row like a laser right through you. Nothing like a great live performance.
Tennstedt was such a great conductor. I've have some recordings of him conducting the London Phil and they are nothing less than spectacular.
Obrigado!🙏
Ah yes the great Dale Clevenger on Principal Horn and Donald Koss on Principal Timpani
Herseth too
One of the best interpretations! Thanks a lot!
Ho sentito poco, questo dificilissimo inizio. Poi ho passato alla 1a con Kubelik.
Incredibly good!
Who's that trumpet player? 🙂
The great Adolph Herseth.
A legend in his own time. Reiner tried to humble him by having him play the same few bars of a Strauss tone poem over and over again. He never missed a note. Reiner finally gave up and never tried that again!
@@eagle1ear The section opened with a very exposed, soft, high c-sharp. Bud told a version of the story in which Reiner finally asked him, "When are you going to miss it?" To which Bud replied, "Well, not today."
Haha! I heard yet a another version in which Bud said something like, "Well, we can keep doing this as long as you want.... "@@strukhoff
@@eagle1ear The Legend. Every young trumpet player in the Midwest for a couple of generations tried to get his sound. I, for one, could not do it :-)
Fantastic Performance, Bravo !!!!!
Boy Chicago brass and percussion were world class back then!! I can,t remember the tympanists name!!! Donald Koss!!!!!!
La mejor sección de metales del mundo! Increíble!!
BARBARITATS
Sometimes is not the orchestra and conductor that make ur sound bad, is the recording. In this case I agree with u it is and excellent orchestra, conductor and recording.

First time ever listening to a Mahler symphony. I think everything else from here onwards will be disappointing. What a performance!!! That great CSO brass was phenomenal and huge-sounding in the final moments.
Believe me, the symphonies get even better!
@@petermyers7562 amen to that, bro! I only became a fan of Mahler when I was young because of a Tom Lehrer song about his wife, Alma. First time I heard a Mahler symphony (the 2nd, maybe?) I didn't like it AT ALL. But Mahler is an acquired taste, and I keep alternating who's my favorite composer, Mahler or Bruckner. :)
take a listen to the 3rd. The last movement is the most beautiful music Mahler ever composed, in my opinion. Truly ahead of his time...
@@markwardprodking Mahler is now considered by most people to be the greatest Composer of Symphonies Ever and his no.1 is unbelievably good, then no.5 and no. 7, start with those three and graduate to no 8 the symphony of a thousand, then you'll be hooked for Ever!!!!!
@@markwardprodking I'm in love with his Symphony No. 1, it maybe the greatest first symphony of all time and when a fantastic orchestra lead by a terrific conductor like this guy does it right with a powerful ending, it becomes epic and inspiring!!!!!
a real hun.
North korean numbers station recordings scares me so much even tho I don't think it exists now.
Today I listened to the Berlin Philharmonic play this with Ivan Fischer conducting. It sounded like sonic junk compared to this. Tennstedt was a TRUE giant. Unfortunately he didn't have a chance to have a giant career because he was stuck in dreaded East Germany for so long. But thank God the world did have an opportunity to hear what he could do with an orchestra.
I was at the London Concert Hall in 1984 to witness a performance of Mahler's The Resurrection conducted by Klaus Tennestedt. Absolutely spectacular
@@markpeterson7298 There are some individuals in our business that never really get the recognition they deserve due to egomaniacs who constantly need the spotlight. They are often supported by powerful classical music management agencies. However, educated musicians understand that Klaus was the real deal. It was as if he was one with the music without any unneeded flamboyance.
With Adam Fischer it could be better.
@@hospitality5522 The only Hungarian musician that I have any respect for is Schiff.
Ivan Fischer not in the same league as Tennstedt....Tennstedt was really great
