Florida Summer Garden Tour! Palm Beach Garden Tour
Hey everyone! In this video I'm showing you around my South Florida Garden! We have a small yard, but we made the most of it, so if you are looking for a small garden tour I'm hoping this will give you some inspiration! We are zone 10, and because we live in South Florida, it's very humid here! This also greatly affects the way we garden and the type of plants we can grow! I feel like there isn't much that can survive here in the summers sometimes haha! So grab and iced tea, lemonade, or a blended coffee and I hope you enjoy the video! All links will be below!!
Thanks for watching,
Stephanie

Просмотров 7 тыс.Год назад
In this video I want to share with you a tour of my south Florida garden. We are zone 10, so our growing season along with what we grow is very different from most places. It's important to me to have an enjoyable garden, even if it's small, because I love decorating my home and I want my view to compliment it. I hope it's interesting and enjoyable as I show you around. Welcome to my garden! ~S...

    Hello and thank you for sharing, your daughter is ADORABLE and your Orchids are GORGEOUS!! I have three Phal Orchids that were large but have died back to looking like mini Orchids lol!! My sister lives in Florida and her Orchids are GORGEOUS too!! I live in Jersey and I do well with houseplants, but I always struggle with Orchids!! My apartment usually is cold in the Winter even with the heat on and bubble-wrapped windows (thin walls), cold and humid in the Summer (AC) so I have them under grow lights in my indoor greenhouse!! And I've tried bark, sphagnum moss and water culture and so far they're doing ok in water culture but I really want to have it in moss or bark, or a mix of both!! Is there anything you could suggest on the proper lighting (I have a Southeast-facing window), medium for me to truly learn how to care for them, I really love Orchids and want to properly care for them!! Sorry for the long message!!❤️🥰🙏

    • @mypalmbeachgarden
      @mypalmbeachgarden Год назад

      No worries about the long message! It sounds like you have a green thumb 🥰! I think southeast is great because I notice that if mine get dappled sunlight in the morning, they do the best. It might be different in New Jersey, they may even do well with dappled sunlight in the afternoon or direct/filtered through a window. But I would definitely keep them in a bright room near a window! 🤗

    I REALLY HOPE YOU CAN HELP ME. IVE WATCHED SO MANY DIFFERENT VIDEOS ON HOW TO CARE FOR ORCHIDS. SEVERAL SAY NO COLD WATER. SINCE THERE TROPICAL. AND YES NO TO ICE! BUT YOU SAID THEY NEED MORE WATER THEN YOU THINK. BUT THEN ANOTHER VIDEO WILL SAY JUST THE OPPISITE. THAT THEY DONT NEED AS MUCH WATER AS YOU THINK. AND TO ONLY WATER EVERY 2 WEEKS. THAT OVERWATERING IS BIGGEST MISTAKE PPL MAKE. ITS SO CONFUSING EVERYONE SAYS SOMETHING DIFFERENT. ALSO YOU SAID WHEN BLOOMS ARE GONE CUT IT ALL THE WAY AT THE BOTTOM. BUT IVE SEEN MANY VIDEOS THAT SAY JUST TO CUT IT ONE INCH ABOVE WHERE THE NEXT NUBB IS THATS GOING TO BLOOM. I LOST ALL MY FLOWERS, SO I JUST CUT IT BUT NOT ALL THE WAY AT BOTTOM. BUT IM STARTING TO THINK YOUR WAY IS A BETTER IDEA, AS IT WOULD HAVE A BETTER CHANCE FROM BOTTOM AREA CLOSER TO ROOTS. AS YOUR RIGHT! MY STEM IS ALREADY STARTING TO YELLOW. ALSO IM SEEING ALOT OF PPL USING ALOT OF WATER, WHEN WATERING. INSTEAD OF 1/4C VERY LITTLE. AND IF YOU USE RAIN WATER AND FERTILIZE EVERY WATERING, ITS WILL DO GREAT, THATS WHAT MY FRIEND DOES AND SHES GOT NEW BLOOM EVERYWHERE!!

      I think it has a lot to do with where you live, and I have been going by my experience when caring for them. Every now and again, I will have a baby shoot form off of an old stem, but I have never had an old stem re-bloom. so when I cut it down or not cut it down, a new shoot always forms with blooms. It also might depend on the variety of orchid. I know orchids get moisture from the air and when I keep mine inside I thoroughly water them and they do very well, but outside in FL I know how humid it is and how much it rains here… they get a lot of water when outside, the key is that the water drains. I know other people say water very little, but I’ve never had a good experience with that 🤷🏻‍♀️. Thank so much for your comment! I think trial and error is the best way to learn!

    The garden looks beautiful and your little helper is adorable! Is the blue flower called Evolvulous? Thanks for showing your lovely patio! I love the podocarpus hedge so much. I had to get rid of one yesterday because I think it had scales and aphid damage that was too much for it but i will try to take better care of the rest of my tiny Podocarpus macrophylla shrubs/trees. Good luck with the house hunting! Your buyer will appreciate all the lovely touches including the trellis.

      I’m so sorry for the delayed response! We have been in the middle of moving and are expecting a new baby! But I’m hoping to film a before tour of the garden soon! I don’t know if this will help, but I ordered lady bugs to release on my podocarpus to control aphids and it worked! It might help the other ones stay aphid free? Thanks so much for your sweet comment!!

    Every node on that stem can produce a flower stem or a keiki. I would have cut above the 3rd node.i have an orchid that has bloomed each year for 3 years on the same stem. I have compared both ways.

    If you have a water softener then use bottled water or rain water. The salt from a softener will kill your orchids.

    • @mypalmbeachgarden

      Omg, YES I FOUND THAT OUT RECENTLY, LUCKLY IVE ONLY WATERED IT TWICE WITH MY TAP WATER WHICH IS SOFT WATER. I THINK THATS WHY MY BLOOMS ONLY LASTED 1 MONTH. BUT NOW IM READY AND WAITING FOR RAIN WATER. OR ILL USE DISTILLED WATER, UNTIL I HAVE MY RAIN WATER.
