I remember when they came out around 1980ish. My neighbor bought brand new fuel oil delivery trucks with them. None of them made it a year without blowing up or needing engine work. I think he bought 5 or 6 of them, he was pizzed. Somewhere around the 4rd year he repowered them all with 3208 Cats. After that he started buying IHC with DT466. He never bought a GM product again. I don't know anyone who bought an 8.2 that was happy with it

Sweet. Smallest DD I’ve worked on was a 2-53. Cute little thing. Also worked on a pair of 12v149 generator sets. Those made some serious Detroit music.

I am a retired truck mechanic and I worked on a lot of 1693s those engine's were diffinitly bullet proof.

They called those things fuel pinchers I called mine a wallet strangler

That just helped me to understand that a diesel engine like a screaming Jimmy is in fact used for driving fluids and pumps, noy necessarily in that order, good vid

What you are hearing is the air compressor running

At higher RPM its smooth,but at Idel its rough and is misfiring why? Has the engine not warmed up sufficiently.

I always liked the sound of the 8.2 detroit not a power house but with a turbo a sweet engine.

It is amazing how smooth that Cummins runs I just love it
