    Has anyone had issues with the reservoir leaking after priming and infusing? I've had hyperglycemia after changing the set and then hours later my blood sugar, indicating a delay in insulin administration. I think the vent on the reservoir/set connection is the problem, but haven't found a solution. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you so much :)

    Hi, I know this post was a while ago but it happened to me at 3am last night, myself and my wife were trying to figure out what to do and came across your video, disconnected it still in the tape and reconnected it, it came up with a message saying reconnect or start new sensor, I reconnected it, it warmed up and worked! Big thank you from England 👍

    I finally, after years with Medtronic, made the switch to Omnipod (5) that I'd been so excited about... I was shocked how horrible my couple of months with the Omnipod was! I switched back to the known evil of my 770g, with its tubing, repeated inexplicably "BG required"s, etc. etc... ultimately, the real enemy is simply type 1 itself. God bless you all who are living with it, or living with someone who is living with it. Stay vigilant!

I will def try the manual mode and adjust my ratios to be lower. Now I am on 1:3.5 I will try 1:5 . The Cruz control was a perfect example . I would never do a cruise control in my car lol

    Thanks Justin! 65 yr old type 1. Medtronics pump user for 8 yrs. New to the CGM ( I just upgraded to the 780g ) Did my first sensor change yesterday around 6pm. All seemed OK. Then at 12:30 am I get the pump alarm that can wake up the dead! It was hard to read what the pump screen was telling me (from that abrupt awakening ) so I just pressed OK . After a few moments to collect myself, I then noticed a light blue banner over the Smartguard shield with " sensor updating". That lasted about 10 minutes and then went back to normal. This was a bit disturbing to me (and for that time of night!) Not seeing any vids on this alarm?

    • @TheJjfrasier
      @TheJjfrasier 5 месяцев назад

      The sensor updating alarm is a very frustrating alarm. From my experience with Medtronic’s pump when I had it I would see the sensor updating alarm when the sensor and the pump weren’t agreeing with each other. For example if blood sugar is extremely steady and the sensor keeps reporting the same or similar sugar level then the pump feels that based on the insulin given there should be a change. Then it goes in to sensor updating for the two devices to communicate. That’s the best way I feel that I can explain what I believe the pump is doing when that occurs. I would get these often when I was doing the keto diet. Sometimes they were short and sometimes they were several hours which resulted in the pump exiting auto mode and switching back to manual mode.

      Your reason along with some other info I rec’d today makes sense to me. My trainer mentioned it could be small amount of blood causing it to lose connection and typically fixes itself (or re-connects) as mine did. Medtronic’s support gave me multiple possible reasons - one being sensor dislodged. They did say if update takes more than 3 hrs to return that sensor for a replacement - definitely a bad sensor. Just another trial & error and learning experience with this CGM system. Still the best option for us Type 1 diabetics! Glad I can go to RUclips for most of my issues & answers. Your posts are golden and thank you!

    GREAT job Justin. Type 1 for 62 years. Used the 670g pump for about 8 yrs.(started with the Animus Ping) Old school so I fought switching to a pump. Now I just upgraded to the 780g. I also fought using a CGM system - more to stick to your body, costs, etc. In my first few days with it and already seeing a diff. Wow, you can teach an old dog a new trick😏 Yes - EVERYONE is different and it will take "tweaking" your pump to suit you life style & eating habits. I'm also a strong believer to NOT use the pump as a reason or excuse to eat "junk" foods just because you can dose more insulin. Keep that A1C at a good reading and live longer. 😁

    Hi Justin. I was searching for videos re insulin pumps and found your videos. I appreciate you taking time sharing your experiences with tupe 1 community. I was dx at age 12 and have had type 1 for 46 years. Started with medtronic in 1999 and still wear the model 523 which is about 10 years old. . I also wear the libre 2. I used the medtronic softsensor briefly and hated the insertion technique. I will need another pump in the future so.have started my search. My concerns with omnipod would be forgetting the controller, pod falling off, and skin irritation. Also, I.use the steel cannula now and not sure if a plastic cannula woukd work. Anyhow, keep up the good work. I look forward to more of your videos. I pray God keeps you healthy and happy!

    Thanks Justin. Medtronic’s has really pissed me off with the Accu check Guide link meter that comes with the 780G. Contour Next was great. I now am finding out the Accu Check only does BG - cannot send bolus dosages. Am I missing something? Not using my new 780G with a CGM (yet). For now, same as before - test on Contour - send dosage. No need to take my pump out. I get the CGM process but I choose not to use that for now.

    Using one Dexcom G6 sensor is hardly a valid comparison. I used Dexcom G6 sensors over 2 years with a Medtronic 670G pump. There are several points I would like to bring up. First and foremost, the Dexcom sensor does not communicate with the Medtronic pump. The pump had to be in manual mode and BG levels had to be manually input to the pump for bolus delivery. Basal delivery also had to be set to a constant setting which cannot regulate the pump with varying physical activity. Second, the Dexcom G6 is supposed to be inserted in the abdomen, not the arm. Third, over the 2 + years I used the Dexcom G6, there was a 70% failure rate based on a 10 day sensor life. They rarely made it the 7 days. Early on, I had a Dexcom G6 give a BG reading of 200+ when I was actually at 57. Fortunately, I am hypoglycemic sensitive and knew better than dosing when I had "that" feeling and did a finger stick to make certain first. Now, the Medtronic Guardian 3. It has been years since I used them. I stopped because of the alarms. Almost every night, it would wake me for a calibration or something else. At the time, my commute to work was 130 miles round trip. Sometimes it would wake me every 45 minutes through the night. I needed my rest. I used finger sticks to input data. The Medtronic Guardian 4 I have retired since my Guardian 3 experience and no longer work. 4 months ago, I discontinued using my outdated Medtronic 670G pump and upgraded to the Medtronic 780G. Because of Medicare and Insurance and supplier issues, I was unable to obtain Guardian 4 sensors until a week ago. I am aware that one sensor is not a valid evaluation, but so far, I AM THRILLED! The link between the pump and CGM system is incredible. My BG levels have consistently been 80% in range of 70 to 180. Several 24 hour periods are 100%. I have never had this record since being diagnosed LADA (basically Type 1) in 2017. If I underestimate carbs for bolus delivery at mealtime, the system automatically adjusts bolus units to compensate based on BG level rise rate. One night after eating spaghetti at an all you can eat restaurant, I bolused for 12 units, the maximum my pump allows for a single meal. Over the next few hours, the pump gave an additional 32 units based on Guardian 4 CGM data. I awoke the next morning with a BG at 84. Dexcom can't do that. I can't do that in manual mode regardless of sensor brand. I highly recommend the Medtronic 780G pump system with the Guardian 4 CGM. It is indeed life changing for my condition. On the other hand, I was able to "get by" with the Dexcom G6, and the manufacturer always replaced failed sensors when I reported it. I am anxious to see long-term performance of the latest Medtronic system.

    I know all about easier said than done BUTT u should read Diabetes Solution by Dr Richard Bernstein the 89 year old type 1 diabetic since 11. He's even active still here on RUclips. Someone told me he charges $900 an hour for one on one service. His book is probably at your local public library though. Long story shortER, he eats very low carb so he doesn't need to use a lot of insulin to begin with. His glucose is perfectly normal all the time. He lives on protein with vegetables. He doesn't eat grains or fruit. Yes, it's controversial and not everyone is able and willing to do it long-term but it's virtually guaranteed to work for everyone who commits to it. You would say goodbye to the rollercoaster 🎢 of 400 to 40 that you talked about. You're a smart guy. You must realize how unhealthy that is. Don't you already have a heart issue? You aren't going to stay healthy long-term if you don't get control of your weight and diabetes. Do you walk a couple miles every day? Are you doing resistance exercise aka strength training at least 3 days a week? Go to a psychologist if necessary but make the recommended changes before it's too late. Many people sadly don't discover Dr Bernstein and his disease management system until after diabetes has damaged their eyes or kidneys significantly. Then once they adjust they are angry that no doctor/diabetes educator/dietitian ever encouraged them to learn his method and put a stop to Diabetes damaging their body. Just think about the sayings about a "necessary evil" and the "lesser of two evils". As they say in the Army, You don't have to like it - you just have to do it. Thee end. Good luck.

      @jackschitt6235 yes I’m still on the Omnipod 5 and the dexcom G6. I have gained weight due to high stress at work. I’m working to get rid of it and get back to a healthier lifestyle. A1C went up due to some experimental insulin changes. I went from U100 to U500 down to U200 now I’m back on U100. This was mostly due to work stress that was causing me to use a lot of insulin and I was burning through my pods very quickly. U500 was mostly likely the reason I gain a good amount of weight. Prolonged highs would be followed by severe lows. U200 worked great but due to a mistake with my scrip I ran out and had to convert back to U100 and decided to stay for the simplicity. Diet has been cut back I’m eating low carb or keto meals mostly with the occasional normal meal. That’s life at the moment.

      No I haven’t even looked in to how the 780g is doing for others. To me the dexcom is so much better than the medtronic sensors I had. The accuracy and fact that I don’t have to calibrate it is amazing. I know the new sensor doesn’t require calibrations, but medtronic sensors need all of this extra tape to stay on if it’s life cycle. I don’t use any additional tape and I have never had a dexcom just fall off in the time I have been on it. Then omnipod has started testing their iPhone app for the 5. So hopefully in the next 6-8 months there will be an iPhone app to control the whole system. I enjoy not having to deal with a tube more than anything else.

      @@TheJjfrasier I completely understand where you're coming from. I've made the switch to using Simpatch tape from Amazon instead of the provided oval tape. It's considerably easier to apply, stays reliably secure, and provides better overall protection. Although I'm still using the 770G, I'm eagerly awaiting my doctor's authorization for the 780G. Medtronic has reached out to me regarding the possibility of upgrading, and I've already placed my order for the upgrade kit. Your perspective makes a lot of sense though. Dealing with the tubing can be a bit bothersome, but I've found that tucking it into my pocket makes it tolerable. While it does get caught occasionally, it's not a dealbreaker for me. I'm genuinely excited to see how well the new 780G will perform, especially looking forward to the elimination of calibration and the automatic correction boluses.

    LOVED this video and all true! You're the first one to mention keeping manual settings in good control so they are correct when you go out of auto mode. When I can't be using the sensor I know I must eat before going to bed or I go low in the night. I must correct my settings for that. And also you mentioned being patient with the pump because it is learning the first time you are wearing it. A question for you: I'm always afraid to take the full carb count all at once. If I eat a bakery item for 75 carbs, I tend to take 36 carbs at first and then an hour later take the rest of the carbs or more of them like a square or dual wave. When I'm in manual mode and I take all 75 at once I tend to go low before all of the carbs are absorbed into my system. If I take all the carbs at once with the 780G will it take into that into account so I don't go low before all the carbs have absorbed. The pump doesn't know what kind of carbs I ate but only that what I ate was worth 75 carbs. Hope that makes sense.

    What insurance do you have? My son has Florida Blue. Omnipod has changed their supplies from Medical to Pharmacy and the cost in unbelievable. It is so expensive that my son will have to start giving himself shots. Do you have any advice?
