Shop Built Tire Bead Breaker - Improved V3
After using my original tire bead breaker on a fair number of wheels, I had a few improvements that I wanted to make. This gave me the reason to build a 4 wheel hand cart and a mobile work table at the same time in the same package.

Bobcat 863 Skid Steer Spool Valve Repair - Spool Seals Replaced
Просмотров 3,3 тыс.7 месяцев назад
I had a hydraulic leak in my 863H Bobcat Skid Steer. The spool seals were leaking in the hydraulic control valve. In this video I show replacing both the lift and tilt spool seals. I discuss the steps needed to be taken to make the repair while the hydraulic control valve remained in the machine. In the process of making the repair, I demonstrate the use of a shop built tool to install the dete...

DIY Tire Changer - Improved V5.0
Просмотров 8452 года назад
I have continued to develop my tire changer beyond changing motorcycle tires by testing it against car and light truck wheels. What I show in this video is an improved machine that will still handle a motorcycle wheel without damage, but much more. At the end of the video, I include information that should help you build your own changer. The "Toon" tires used in the video are 18 year old, 35" ...
Shop Built Tire Bead Breaker
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.2 года назад
My original intent was to build a bead breaker for motorcycle tires. I kept this in mind as I continued to develop the bead breaker. What I have now will still break a motorcycle tire bead without damaging the wheel and will also break the bead of any tire I am likely to throw at it. Construction notes are included in the video.

DIY Tire Changer - Shop/Home Built: Motorcycle, Automobile and ?
Просмотров 31 тыс.2 года назад
I have now been able to mount & dismount both automobile and motorcycle tires with my shop/home built manual tire machine. In this video I dismount a used motorcycle touring tire and mount a new Dunlop Elite 4 tubeless rear tire. The Elite 4 is a stiff side wall touring tire that is difficult to mount with just tire spoons. This type of tire was the reason for developing the machine. Also, I am...

    That was very helpful! I have an 853 that looks similar and need to replace the seals. I made a tool for that purpose so the next step is to prep the machine and get on with the project. Thanks for taking the time to film the tutorial.

    That center post would never fit a Ninja 250 or KLR650 wheel… unless you remove the bearings. Never say “never?” ;)

    • @joejoe9773
      @joejoe9773 Год назад

      You are correct. The Kawaski 650 and the Nija use a 15mm(0.59”) front axle and a 17mm(0.67”) rear axle diameter. If you had the skills/equipment to build the tool, it would be a simple task to change the machine axle to 0.5” diameter with the proper sized flanged sleeve bearings. I sized the tool to handle the wheels that I would put on it. To date I have done 3 different motorcycles and multiple automotive style wheels from 13” to 18” in diameter.

      @@joejoe9773I think it’s safe to say that most are in awe of your ability to build the tool. Good job! Whatever I cobble together will be a bastardized mix of the Pittsburgh machine, a duckhead mount/demount bar, and a 15mm center post from McMaster. ;)

    What paint did you use ? And how well is it holding up?

    • @joejoe9773
      @joejoe9773 Год назад

      I used rattle can spray paint made by Rust-Oleum - "Professional High Performance Enamel", 15oz cans. I also used their primer. It has held up well. After I quit banging the wheels with my tire spoons, I re-touched the wheels with the same paint. I have painted the other 4 wheels, after I changed the tires (you learn as you go). The motor home does not see use in the winter.

      How do the beads get stuck? I have used beads on multiple motorcycles, automotive tires, trailer tires and motorhome tires. Thousands of miles of use and no off balance detected. No one is paying me. Do what works for you.

    Should this work on the dirt bike tires??

    • @joejoe9773
      @joejoe9773 2 года назад

      I tried the changer on a dirt bike tire. It did not work. This wheel had a pair of rim locks installed. The rim locks got in the way of the duck head. So, I used tire spoons. A steel wheel was mounted on the changer. The dirt bike wheel on top of that. A bit of overkill, but it did get the wheel at a better height than a plastic 5 gallon bucket.

    Can you supply links to where to buy the duck head and the rim clamp that goes against the rim?

    You've been busy this winter. That looks like a substantial re-work from November, but the end result looks solid. I like the hinged top support arm.

    • @joejoe9773
      @joejoe9773 2 года назад

      That top support arm made a big difference. Everything stays in alignment as the duck head is rotated around the wheel rim. It seems easier to rotate. I wonder if I could have stayed with the 3 clamp system.

    That's a pretty cool set up. I've changed Dunlop bias ply tires by hand but I've never been able to get the bead to seat. How did you do it?

    • @joejoe9773
      @joejoe9773 2 года назад

      When I had a stubborn bead, I have been able to get it to seat by bouncing the tire/wheel on the ground. I don't go over 40psi, the bead area still has some wet lube on it and my tire bouncing is not very gentle. I hope that helps. Some people break the bead again and try reinflating the tire.

      I like that. I have been working on learning the limits of my machine and then improving it. I have gone from 3 clamps to 4, added an overhead arm to support the machine's axle and improved the duck head attachment. This new version should be posted next week. I will have some simple sketches with dimensions at the end of the video.
