    Interesting design. SV YOLO is a small trailer sailer. What is the largest boat anyone has tried this DIY YOLO furling system on? Would it work for 25, 30, 35 foot sailboats?

    Hi guys, nice video. Design and idea is great, one thing I notice is that forestay needs to go of for sail to be taken out. That would be the only safety issue i would see, besides long screws.

    Probably the best diy design ive seen. Only thing i would do is use shorter fastening screws to not risk them scoring the stay. Good job

  • @J-Justice666
    @J-Justice666 Год назад

    Are you making sure not to screw through the forestay when you're putting all those screws through the pvc? If you make sure you don't go through the center you can miss the cable. You don't want to go through it or rub on it with your screws..

  • @robertscholz4486
    @robertscholz4486 Год назад

    Only problem I see is the screw on the top of the spool ... if it comes in contact with the stay inside it could rub and fray the stay ... should have at least shortened the screw by grinding the point off of it.

    Screws are too long. They can damage the stay as it all spins and the foot of the sail is held by just the pvc ?? What is the top attached to that allows the rotation?

    I watched your video on the construction of your pvc roller furler. Being a retired shop teacher, I give you high marks on your presentation. In this video, I notice that the furler is still in operation. Could you please comment on any issues that you have encountered with the furler? What modifications, if any, would you suggest? Thanks for taking the time to make your videos.

    • @Adventures_4_Us
      @Adventures_4_Us 2 года назад

      Spacing of Hanks on my head sail is 12". As for your question regarding how the caps were attached, after putting the turnbuckle through them, l just simply glued along the edges of the 2" cap with PVC glue.

    • @mickhodapp1591
      @mickhodapp1591 2 года назад

      Thank you for the explanations ! The gluing of the 2" cap to the 4" cap makes perfect sense ! however ypur reply about the hank spacing of 12" apart does not seem rght to me because if your mast is 30' you would have approx 28 hanks but i can only see 4 or 5 of them in your vifeo. Please clarify this because i cannot afford 28 hanks.@@Adventures_4_Us

    Hello, I posted 2 replies to your reply to my questions about your video but you must not have seen them in the reply section so i am making a new comment.I am sorry to be a pest but i am stuck in the middle of this project & am relying on your answers so please bear with me. I am wnting to know how many jib hanks are on your system & how long your mast is. my boat doesn't have jib hankz but rather a plastic luff with a slot in it that the luff tape slides through(the system went overboard ,long story) Also i asked about how the 2"cap attaches to the 4" cap at the bottom of the drum,not the top of the drum like you replied about. Also you don't show a hole in the bottom 2" cap or mention what size the hole is. Answers to these would help a bunch & thank you for replying !!

  • @mickhodapp1591
    @mickhodapp1591 2 года назад

    Sorry, one more question,how far apart did you space the hanks ?

    • @Adventures_4_Us
      @Adventures_4_Us 2 года назад

      Thanks for your question. We just matched the spacing to where the hanks are on the head sail. We did this just by measuring the distance between the hanks and notched out the holes on the pvc.

    • @mickhodapp1591
      @mickhodapp1591 2 года назад

      @@Adventures_4_Us Thank you for the reply ! My macgregor 25 has a luff tape sewn onto it& has no hanks on it because it had a cdi furler on it which got dropped overboard & could not be retrieved so I am attempting to duplicate your system but I need to know if you can please tell me how far apart yout hanks are spaced (approx.) Thanks again !

    Hello,excellent video,thank you ! 2 questions please, at 1:48 of the video what attachs the cap to the 4" cap ? Also, how do you lower the head sail when it is attached to the headstay with the hanks ? Thanks again & I'll be looking forward to hearing back from you !

    • @Adventures_4_Us
      @Adventures_4_Us 2 года назад

      The part that attached to the 4" cap is a 1" glue to 1" threaded adapter that goes through the 4" cap and into the cap with the female thread on the inside. This furling system is made for a trailerable boat so it's meant to take on and off when the mast is lowered.

    Hello from Florida. I just came across your video and was very intrigued. Your video is the most detailed of any home made furler video that I have seen, and would like to build one for my boat. But have a question. What happens to the jib halyard in the absence of a swivel when you furl and unfurl the jib. In your design it's connected to the head of the jib, so it will need to turn with the jib. Am I missing something?

    • @50jim1
      @50jim1 3 года назад

      I have the same question. If the jib halyard is supporting this whole rig, how is it attached. I want to build this but need an answer please.

    • @michaelmitchell6898
      @michaelmitchell6898 3 года назад

      @@50jim1 Looks like the jib halyard just twist a few turns. Perhaps a swivel at the end of the halyard would be the way to go.

    • @50jim1
      @50jim1 3 года назад

      I thought the same thing but found a better solution. I can not figure how to post a photo but will try to explain. I made a plate with a hole big enough for the pvc pipe to fit loosely. I attached a “U” shaped ring with nuts on both sides of the plate. I then slide the pipe though the plate and attached the pipe cap with 2 screws for future removal. I the attached the jib halyard to the ring and lifted the whole devise with the jib attached. I made another modification at the bottom caps. I first attached the line to furl to the bottom cap as per video, but the line would wrap below the cap. I then attached it to the upper cap and it works perfectly. Hope this helps.

      george jackson are you referring to the 2” bolt at the foot of the Genoa?

    • @michaelsimpson9779
      @michaelsimpson9779 2 года назад

      I thought the same thing, I'd be wanting to polish the threads off that bolt where it's inside that torque tube and only use screws long enought to lock the PVC with no protrusion into the interior of that tube. You dont want any sharp edges rubbing on that stay.....
