I'm Janine, the Winnipeg-based independent knit and crochet designer behind Knits 'N Knots. I've been designing patterns full-time since 2017 and specialize in size-inclusive sweater design with customization tips included in each and every pattern to achieve the best possible fit for your unique body measurements. My designs are (usually!) subtle and understated, intended to become closet-staples that seamlessly blend in with your existing wardrobe. In 2022, I authored my first book, Modern Crochet Sweaters, featuring 20 chic, size-inclusive sweaters designed with style, fit, and comfort in mind.
I design both knit and crochet garments with a size range from XS-5XL, or to suit a range of bust sizes from 28-62". If you crochet, you know that it's harder to make crochet look as neat and store-bought as knitting can look, but I'm on a mission to show you it can be done!

Would the pattern work with a heavier weight yarn?
Hope youre doing well Janine, so nice to see this video pop up :) I'm super out of touch so this is definitely late, but congratulations on having a baby! That scarf is beautiful, the colors look so beautiful in that stitch. And hue + me is such a nice yarn, I worked with it a few months ago and its so cozy and comes in beautiful colors. And the cardigan is so so stunning! I love the way it looks with the added length to the neckband. <3
Love Vlog style videos & have always loved your patterns! Excited for more of these from you. We need more crochet vlogs. So many knitting ones. :) Happy 1st day of Fall & sweater weather. ❤
Thank you so much! I agree, there is so much knitting content on RUclips and not as much crochet :) Thanks for watching!! xo
I would love to see tutorials for your book. I bought it several months ago and just now getting started on your sugarplum pattern. I am enjoying the new stitches I’m learning thus far
Once you complete the main color and the alternate color, you go back to the main color. Do you cut the bobbin the main color is on and move it to the other end to complete the row? Is there a bobbin for each end or do you just carry the yarn across and have a line of yarn on the back from one side to the other? Thank you.
You'll use a separate bobbin for each section of color so that there are no strands being carried! Since you have 2 bobbins of Main Color going at the same time while you work the semi-circle, you will be able to continue using your strand of MC that you are holding as you finish up Row 44. Row 45 will be knit with this same yarn and you can cut the other bobbin!
Hi Just new here I 'm not a fan of the puff st. or bobble st. Would you be able to recommend another stitch that could work
Hi there! Just completed up to the sleeves part, not sure how to attach the body, where should I start the row? It’s loooking great so far
Superbe. Thanks a lot for this tutorial.
Glad it was helpful! :)
Is the written pattern onw of the 20 in your book?
No, it's not! The book has 20 sweater patterns that can all be viewed here if you're curious! www.ravelry.com/bundles/patterns-from-my-book
I loooooved this video! Seeing your process was so interesting and I just love having these types of videos on for motivation while I crochet. :) Excited to see more from you!
Eeek thank you so much for that feedback! I also love watching these types of videos when I'm crocheting on the couch, I'm so glad you liked it! Thank you for watching! xx
This is such a fun video! I'm watching while finishing up the Sacred Woods sweater (with Lion Brand Mako Cotton!). I've been on the fence about trying some Hobbii yarn, think I need to give it a go!
Amazing! I love the Mako Cotton - that will be such a gorgeous sweater! Yessss, I think you should try Hobbi! They've got such nice, affordable yarns and ship quickly, what more could you want right?!
Your design style speaks to my soul. I always have a loose idea of how I want something to come together, but you gotta let it flow. Too many plans makes it not fun anymore. So cool to see your reviews of these yarns 😁😁
Aww thanks for watching Toni!! Exactly! Gotta keep it fun even though it's still work. And if you're crocheting as much as we do we can't risk losing our crochet mojo!
I'm do excited to hear you're doing another book! 🎉 I am from the US and loved the accessibility of your yarn choices AND your recommendations.
That's so nice to hear! I wanted to give plenty of options that are easily accessible. I find it's harder to find subs for more luxury yarns, so I used budget friendly options and I feel like those who want to use more luxury yarns can easily sub those in if they want to! Thanks for your support!! xx
Love vlogs like this! 😍
I'm so happy to hear that! Thank you so much for watching + for your support! More vlogs to come :)
If there’s one thing a crocheter or Knitter is going to find is yarn sub if they want to produce the pattern that bad😂 I think people mentioning North American centric are being a little too silly and are probably from North America😂
Hahah I agree! I actually have a note in the materials section of each book pattern IN the yarn section that says to check yarn sub for a list of yarns available in your region. As well as a list of more affordable options if the yarn is on the pricier side! But you can't please everyone I suppose! 😅
I love your videos, keep ‘em coming!! ❤❤
Thank you so much for watching!! 😁❤️
I love this style of video! Can’t wait for your new book! Being from Florida summery, lacy patterns are my favorite!
Thank you so much for watching - me too! Loveeeee that style of crochet. And so much more fun to make in my opinion! Can't wait to show you all the designs that are coming! 😁
Oooh, been waiting for your temperature dress since you first mentioned in your IG stories. Cannot wait!
Haha thank you!! I know, I told everyone about my new idea and then left you hanging for quite some time 🤣 SORRY!
I am loving the blogs and super excited for the new book!
Thank you so so much!! 🥰🥰
Really excited that you're coming out with another book! 🎉🎉 I wanted to comment about yarn and yarn substitutes. I'm from Canada and I mostly purchase my yarn from Michaels, so with your first book I was able to get a lot of the yarn you used and the yarn substitutes you suggested. I do find Michaels have a lack of cotton yarn options, as well as fingering and sport weight yarn, so knowing that your second book will be focused on summery and lacy looks, and that you'll incorporate more non North American yarn brands, kinda scare me 😅 Although yarn is widely available to be purchased online nowadays a lot are really pricey, especially after currency conversion, shipping, and duties 😢
Thank you for sharing!! I started out shopping for yarn almost exclusively at Michaels for the same reason. Not much else around here except Walmart in terms of in-person shopping! If you're shopping for price though, hobbii and wecrochet both have some REALLY nice, quality yarns for cheap, and both have free shipping once you reach a threshold, I think around $75 or so. And for me, both arrive within a week. (Same with LoveCrafts!) Worth checking out if you have a couple projects in mind!! 😁
Literally watching this while crocheting the Vintage Moon Circular Yoke sweater. I’m so excited to hear that you’re making another book!
Eeeek! Thank you so much for your support on the first book! I'm so excited to create another one with a completely different vibe!!
I love it!!!! It looks so you!!! I will be getting your pattern!! Oh also…please do more blogs like that! I enjoyed very much…it was relaxing :)
Easy to follow and understand!
I'm so glad to hear that! Thank you for the feedback and happy crocheting! :)
Really loved watching this Janine 💓
Eeek thank you so much, Sarah-Jayne!! xx
What a fun channel, just found you today. It was great to watch you design the Quail Ridge tee and I definitely need to make it! Can't wait to see more episodes! btw, what tablet are you using and what software for your knitting? 😍😍😍
Yayyyyy welcome friend!! Thank you, I'm so glad you like the Quail Ridge Tee! ❤️ I'm using my iPad Pro here. I bring my iPad to the living room when I work on samples so I can update my pattern files on Google docs as I go! Then when I go to work in my office at my desktop, everything is all nice and synced up. 😊

I have adored your designs for awhile and it was so awesome to see you work and get to “meet” you! ❤
Awwwww thank you SO much for saying that! And thanks for watching!! 😄🩷
Love this video! Your process is so interesting and fun! What app do you use to organize your pattern editing/writing?
Thank you so much, I appreciate that!! I use Google Docs and Powerpoint. Maybe I'll make a video about that too!
Loved watching your process! I know it well haha. Can’t wait to keep watching!!! Loved your edits too. made me giggle often.
Hehe thank you so much!! I'm so glad to hear that 😄
I don’t knit but pretty sweater. Waiting anxiously for crochet vlog videos!!!!!
Thank you so much for your support! Crochet vlogs are coming! 😁❤️🙌
❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for watching! 🤗🩷
I'm drooling over your handmade waredrobe behind you! GOALS!!!
Bahaha it's getting a little out of hand 🤣😜
Do not apologize for those sweet babies coos. Awww congrats on being a mommy. I'm super excited for your vlog series!
Thank you so much! Life is so sweet right now. ❤️🥰
i like the look of this top a lot but was worry about the thickness esp the puff stitches, so I want to try out a light sport or fingering weight yarn. It should be fine as long as I meet gauge, right? Any advice on the gauge re sub yarn? I also saw the LB kit but none of the colors available do justice on this top btw. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Take care!
Thank you so much! As long as you match gauge, it should be fine to sub in a lighter yarn, just be aware that it might look slightly more like lace and be a bit more holey! The puff stitches don't make this piece feel too thick or dense since they are separated by chains as well as rows of hdc between each section, but if you want more drape you could choose something like Coboo or Truboo! I think wool would be great as well, allowing the top to be breathable and stretchy. I don't think you can really go wrong here fiber-wise!
Thanks for sharing
Wish you had more videos,, love your blog
