Добавлен 3 июн 2013
I make comics with Clip Studio Paint.
I worked as a traditional inker for over twenty-five years with companies like Dark Horse Comics, Now Comics, Antarctic Press, Chaos Comics, and Joe Book. I moved to digital around 2012-13. Currently, I'm the creator, writer, and inker for my ongoing comic book series Freaks & Gods. I successfully funded Tales of the Dark Tunnel (Freaks & Gods spin-off) with Kickstarter.

If you’re new to my channel (Hello!) I work in Clip Studio Paint. In this digital inking video, I’m inking an unused panel from my creator owned comic. It’s a great pose and penciler Giuseppe D’Elia did a wonderful job. However, it wasn’t quite right for the scene. So instead of wasting it, I thought I’d ink it! Digital Inking a Batman Drawing: Today, I’m digital inking using Clip Studio Paint, one panel from an unpublished page from issue 7 of All-Star Batman & Robin penciled by Arthur Adams! Inking Jack Kirby Classic Pencil Art

Here we are again inking classic pencil art by Jack Kirby! The character today is Orion (again). This is a great pose, flying over a planet's surface in outer space. Old School Comic Inking - Alan Davis Pencil Art
Просмотров 4622 месяца назад
This time, I'm inking Alan Davis' pencil art of Galactus vs Phoenix. It's hard to believe his art would be considered "old school comic," but maybe. 😄 During the comic inking process, my stylus nib goes bad, and I make a huge and silly mistake. But thanks to saving (but not often enough), it saves the day... sort of. Thanks for checking out my inking video and I hope you enjoy it! Please subscr...

I love inking old school comic art like this. I use Clip Studio Paint and it's the best software I found for digital inking! Of course, that's my opinion. Sei que precisa de muitos "pincéis gastos" para chegar nesta qualidade. Mas acompanhando seus trabalhos já melhorei bastante. Parabéns!
Thanks! Yes, it does take a lot of practice!
Good video even tho try as I can I cannot get rid of the pixelation on my ink brushes or get the weight of the line as you darn good inking you have Mr Dreier
The first thing I would check is the page size. Is it 72, 144, 300, 600 dpi? The higher the better quality. I also change my ink layer settings to "Monochrome". When you zoom in while working the lines can get blurry, fuzzy. It's the program keeping the display (what you're looking at) low so it can make working easier. Try inking a piece and then exporting it with different size and resolution settings, just to see the difference. I hope this helps. And thanks for your kind words!
This technique completely changes the game, I've already tested it and the results are excellent. Thanks for this golden tip!
Any time! Thanks for watching!
Great! How do I configure this G-pen Feathering brush?
Thanks. There are a few steps, too many to explain in a comment but I have a video that shows how. Check it out here: ruclips.net/video/j_pcUErRWSk/видео.html
You make it look easy
Thanks! It's a lot of practice!
good, you're tallented about it👍
Thank you so much 😀
thank you for giving us about how to make digital comic with clip studio paint new supporter
You're welcome!
thank you so much for this chris. I just started startedout with sequential art with characters doing casic stuff recently. On e think I`d like to ask is if there is any special setting you use for basic feeathering?
You're welcome! As for the feathering. It comes down to your tablet's pressure sensitivity settings and the settings of the brushes you use. To be honest, if you leave everything at default they work great to start out. I have a video that explains how to create a "feathering" brush. You can check it out here if you'd like: ruclips.net/video/j_pcUErRWSk/видео.html Thanks!
I made the jump to Clip Studio last month, primarily to see how it compared to those graphics programs I've been using these past 20 years - Photoshop, XaraX (vector), and Corel. In broad generalization there's really not much difference between any of these, but focusing on more specific aspects I have found Clip to be superior to all of the previously mentioned programs as regards how well it handles the aspects of drawing, inking, coloring and lettering. As you've mentioned there are a lot of bells and whistles that aren't necessary and can be intimidating when you first dive in, having spent 40+ years drawing comics despite having every type of pencil imaginable at ones fingertips - along with all manner of inking implements - I've really only used one type of pencil and 3 types of inking tools. It boils down to what works best for each individual artist. I think what has impressed me the most about Clip Studio was how easy it was to integrate my personal methodology/workflow/process within the functions this app provides - day one I was able to work the way I have for decades within its parameters the only difference being I was using much less materials and thereby saving myself money (sorry/ not sorry art supply stores that charge far too much because we are "artists"!) Yes, Chris; I have and am enjoying your vids so keep it up, I tend to learn better by doing but your videos are helpful if I run into a block that requires more clarification from someone more experienced with Clip than I and so far yours have been far more helpful than any of the tutes provided by the developer (sorry Clip!)
Is it better than Ibispaint[X]?
I can't say. I've never used Ibispaint. Sorry.
How do I set up the turnip pen to 'father' like that, and how to I make the brush look thicker on the right rise on the pen tool display?
There are too many steps to explain here but I made a follow-up video to this that explains everything. Check it out: ruclips.net/video/j_pcUErRWSk/видео.html
thank you so much
You're welcome!
Hey again Chris, one more question: What if I "bleed" just a little from the safe area into the trim area? Would that be a problem?
That shouldn't be a problem. However, keep in mind that if something is just touching the trim when printed and trimmed it will run right up to the edge of the page. That might look strange or even like a mistake. Like a panel or a character's foot. I hope that makes sense. :)
what drawing tablet do you use?
Thanks for the question! I have a Wacom Intuos Pro size medium.
Hey Chris, I have a question: There is multiple areas (boxes) (Possibly safe area, trim line and full bleed) my question is how far do you draw? Within the first area (Safe area) or second area (Trim)?
Thanks for the question! Anything important, ie all action, characters, dialogue & caption should stay within the "Live Area" or "safe area". Basically, all panels and whatnot. If you want your drawing to go off the page after it's printed (or bleed) draw past the trim line. The trim line shows where the book will be cut to the final dimensions. You don't want to place your panels or action too far to any side or top and bottom for fear that it would be trimmed or lost on the fold. I hope that this helps! Let me know.

Awesome bro, Can u do more tutorials pls?
I have a couple planned. I'm also going to continue doing premieres for my inking process videos. That way I could answer some questions. Thanks much for watching!
Thank you! This video was really helpful!

Thanks!
Love watching these short vids in the morning while having my first coffee. First of many. Relaxing and inspiring. Thanks for posting.

Great artwork.
Thanks!
love watching the process. great work

Super useful thanks so much!
You're welcome. Glad it was helpful!
Hey i need help I’m new to this app and i watch koolen’s tuts she uses a square kind of flat pen and i downloaded it yet its not the same shape as the one in the logo idk how to exppain this better but any solutions?
I don't know what you downloaded or the tutorial you watched, so I can't help you there. Sorry. But I can tell you that within the "sub tool details" (that little wrench on the bottom right) there are tons of settings that could alter the look of the brush when it's used. Try digging into there and see what you can see.
Then using a pen is goes way thicker that the current size
I have noticed that. I think it might be the true size of the brush/pen without pressure sensitivity. Sort like when you use a mouse. At least, that's my guess.
This was incredibly helpful, thank you.
You're very welcome!
amazing inking so smooth.
Thanks! I'm glad you liked it.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 I've learnt a lot from watching you ink. Thank you!
Happy to hear that and thanks for watching!
are you using a mouse?
I use a Wacom tablet. You can see a quick tour of my "studio" here: ruclips.net/video/9w9KNZ2lgQ0/видео.html Thanks!
thanks master

Brush 2 real? where can i get it? Awesome lines
Thanks for the comment! That brush is actually a default brush I duplicated, renamed and made some of my own setting adjustments. I posted some setting screenshots on the "community" tab about two months if you want to check them out.
Nice work Chris!
Thanks, Mike. I appreciate it!
This is amazing, what brush did you use for this?
Thanks! I use the Calligraphy Brush. You sometimes have to rotate the canvas to get just the angle for the line!
i am big fan of your inking as you can say i am your student, please also upload video of very basics of inking and more ,thankful for your wondeful teaching.
Thanks for your kind words, I really appreciate it. I am pretty busy getting my Kickstarter together and working, but those types of videos are planned and will be coming. Thanks!
Finding uses for any tool it helpful. This is one for me to keep in mind.
It does come in handy. Thanks for watching!
I love your job!! I bought your brush pack with the book. It would be great if you could also have a Spanish version of the book, so that Spanish speakers don't miss any details. Another question, where can you get art samples in pencils to ink like you do? It is a good practice. By the way I share my portfolio with some of my work, I hope you like it! Greetings from Argentina!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it. Right now I don't have any plans for a Spanish version of my book (sorry). I guess you could take the PDF version and feed it into google translate. Maybe that would help. 😃 Half of my pencils are either by the series penciler of my creator owned comics or friends. I'm inbetween issues because I need to write scripts and send them to the penciler, so I search Google. I need to keep my skills up and create videos. 😄 Simply Google comic book pencils to ink and I think you'll be surprized.
