Rebecca Yarros the author of Fourth Wing has chronic illness called Ehlers-Danlos syndrome which effects her connective tissue, bones, skin, and blood. It is a really serious disorder that can often be terminal with a life expectancy of only 48 years. She wanted to she representation of chronic illness and her disease so she wrote Violet to have her same disorder. So that is why Violet is always talking about her fragile bones, her joints dislocating, and being in constant pain. She isn't weak, just sick.
