Grimtastic Baits
Добавлен 20 май 2020
I am an at home business that started making baits and lures in 2019. I am an avid fisherman and outdoorsman and I make baits that are unique and can’t be found in stores. My videos are to help others with tips and tricks to making baits or you can purchase my baits on Etsy at www.etsy.com/shop/GrimtasticBaits. Full disclaimer that all my state and federal excise taxes have been taken care of since day one and I am always interested in selling wholesale to tackle shops if inquiring.

Way to get it done. Came out looking great!
Thanks!
I don't mean to be a downer but couldn't you do that with a dark marker on the first batch before cutting them up? love the vids later
You could probably do it with a dark marker without doing any cutting, but you wouldn’t get the colors and the marker would fade or come off over time. I do like the different ideas that people suggest, though! Thanks!
@@grimtasticbaits I'll have to see how a Xylene paint marker holds up on baits. I use them to touch up or add patterns on crankbaits and they hold up pretty well. Better than your average craft or education store paint marker. I suppose on a soft bait they might flake so now that I think about it soft plastic bait paint might be the better option. I have some for adding kill spots to shad baits. All of those things way out last a marker.
The color was awesome. You can hand pour the stripes and a little chartreuse tail before you shoot your mold, a lot easier.
Definitely not easier on this mold with as tiny as the ribs are and how they go all around the bait. This was actually the best course on this one, but you could hand pour others at the expense of cold cracks or waiting for it on a plate forever.
Great work, hard work payed off. I'm definitely going to try this in technique with this mold and some others.
Thanks! Have fun with it!
Galvanic corrosion is the dissimilar metals reaction you are talking about. I use stainless because it has a very low (but not zero) reaction with aluminum. Handles, alignment pins, clamping screws, and insert rods. All things are a compromise, but for strength and durability, stainless (not 303) is a good compromise.
Next level info! Thanks!
Excellent work.My son has that exact mold and loves how it shoots. This gives us another bait idea that nobody else in our area uses or makes. Thanks again for sharing your work!!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
just ordered this mold what is the metal thing that goes in the middle?
It splits the lamination of two colors and keeps them that way to allow the plastic to twist for the lamination.
@grimtasticbaits Can you shoot a single color then take half out and do another without duel injectors?
@ nope. Need a dual to inject dual colors in this. It doesn’t act as a lamination plate.
What an awesome way to change up a bait! Great thinking and now I might do it with my core shot senkos to get stripes! Didn't consider it until seeing this.
I was considering the same to make fire tiger striped swim baits. Glad you liked the idea and video. Thanks!
Enjoyed hearing your thought process in trying to succeed in executing a very imaginative but difficult build. Well done
Thanks! I leave it all in, even my major screw ups. I hope it helps others so they don’t go down the same path.
@artfowler8702 hey your finished product is awesome. I would get them
😊 Try garlic power
@@JerrelBaker-vo8xv I would but there is not a lot of color to it.
Fun stuff! Is that knife a Kershaw?
I really don’t know the brand or anything about the knife. There were no markings on it.
How much do u charge for these
All my baits are available on Etsy. Just search under the store name Grimtastic Baits. Thanks!
Hey G B can you Give me the name of that site
What site? Epicbaitmolds.com?
White, red, gold is really nice. I've never heard or seen the UV powder. That is one lucky co-worker!
is that a vpi or water base paint for the plastisol. i wonder if that water base paint will work on the unpainted plastic lures, need to learn how to control the finger with the trigger to get the consistency. your spraying to fast you will clog your brush.
If you mean a hard plastic lure, it won’t. You need an acrylic or solvent based paint.
I've shot silicone into aluminum molds, worke great to trim and use as a laminate plug on baits that are not individually ported and not set up 2 laminate
Use a scale designed for testing trigger pull on firearms.
If I had one I certainly would have used it. It’s just not a tool in my arsenal. I like how you think!
Man that turned out good. Im new to pouring and I was wondering did you need to heat the mold to laminate that final product?
Thanks! No, I didn’t preheat at all. Room temp.
You sell them
Nope. Just messing around trying something different for someone else to also try if they wanted.
@grimtasticbaits dang okay I like how they work and curious if they would catch bass
@@nathanbalewell; I am thinking of replicating it, but with a twist where my mistake of the ribs sticking out becomes the product I am after. Probably my next video.
I like A.I molds, but A.I./Dead on has such a cult like following its crazy. Those few high profile RUclips personalities that get free stuff/paid won’t give a honest review because they basically work for them. I post on Facebook groups and get roasted that I like cnc do it molds and that I’m an amateur that doesn’t know what I’m talking about. A.I. raised their price $10 and ran a sale $10 off, and basically run contest of who buys the most will be entered into a drawing. We need unbiased opinions from people like yourself. Keep making these videos!!
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback and glad I am not the only one that feels the same. Side note - Do-It I-Craw is the greatest craw mold out there in my opinion and not just for amateurs, so I agree with you there, too.
@@grimtasticbaitsI couldn’t agree more about that craw!! I love your content and appreciate your videos on mold reviews. Thank You.. from one bait maker to another.
Solid effort with the spray bottle. I had high hopes.
Thanks! 😆. It was worth a shot I figured. Maybe if it wasn’t a dime store cheapy, but it still doesn’t atomize quite like an airbrush. Always just looking for a less expensive way to do things for people.
sb coat is a pain to clean, but i finally bought the thinner hopefully it'll help better, water base paint wouldn't you need a reducer to spray better. maybe try one of those holders that hold the stencils. for the water base you might need Clearasol
I did buy the thinner with the black and it cleans SO easy! Worth it!
Put it under a bobber and work it slower. The nibbles don't put off scent fast enough for a standard retrieve to really draw fish in. Or, rig some of your preferred ned rig baits, or drop shots. After you rig them, then drill a hole and insert your nibbles. Work them slow, give them time to "rest" after every time you retrieve a little and draw some fish in. Be aware though, you'll draw in a lot of little bites from bold panfish that might not be big enough to actually take enough of the bait to get hooked.
Agree. I have used them for years, was just thinking maybe the Swimbait option wasn’t the best for the idea. There is a lead head jig that is meant to do the same thing but I thought plastics would work, too.
@@grimtasticbaits Plastics will definitely work, it's just a matter of giving time for the scent to disperse. I sometimes stuff a few in a tube when I fish tubes and I have to remind myself to fish a bit slower. I would constantly yank it outside of the scent trail, and when you fish in clear water you can see the fish come up to where the bait was a few seconds earlier, confused that nothing is there and looking for it.
whispers: "it looks like a penis." XD Thanks for the info and the laugh.
Lol🎉
Not a big fan of the "pull" test you demonstrated as it's just not how the bait is used. I do pretty much agree that the mold is not terribly useful. For someone like me, with nerve damage & limited dexterity, getting that "x" of o-rings on a stickbait for the ideal bait-saving wacky rig is too much hassle. I will just remelt and remake torn baits if I'm having a bad day and can't get the rig perfect and stick the hook on through. For the average person I think they'll just stick to o-rings. For the baitmaker business, I don't see it making sense money-wise. The mold is expensive, it increases the amount of time you're working on the baits, and time = money. For the hobbyist I don't really see any use for it unless you want to change the color of the middle of your worm. Even then, I'd skin-pour or capsule instead. About the only use-case scenario I can see for this is if : 1. You make your own baits and you like your worms SUPER-soft. 2. An O-Ring murdered your father and you've sworn never to use them. 3. Your worms, when super-duper-soft, slide off the hook when you cast them wacky-style and fling themselves into the cosmos. 4. You aren't bothered by spending money on niche items for your bait-making hobby. If all of that can describe a person, then this mold might just be for them. As for me, I'm not huge on super-soft worms in my wacky rig. Heck, I mostly use baits specifically made for wacky rigging that aren't stick-baits.
Totally understandable on the pull test. Didn’t know how else to demonstrate it with physics/science. Great comment and it made me laugh! Love it!
You got a sub for saving me money, brother!
Thank you! That’s why I do mold reviews even though I didn’t have this specific one. I have been burned by hype and don’t want others to be. The least I can do for a bait making community.
Cool video. I been waiting for someone to do this type of review.
Thanks! I have a lot of them done up.
You started out great with putting glitter in first. Clearly, glitter adds color. I do that all the time and then put dyes/colorants in afterwards. Much better control of the final colorway. Like your channel. Nice work
Thanks! Couldn’t agree more. I just should have started slower with the colorant. 🤦♂️. I don’t edit out my stupid moves. Ha!
I get if you are selling baits to the average angler you may want to claim that your baits are more durable. To anyone who really wants to have a better hook to land ratio. Don't know why anyone would even use an o-ring. All these methods reduce hooking %. Why are Yamamoto Senko's so popular? They are soft. When I set the hook I want the plastic to disappear. And that is why I make my own. If you are selling baits. The amount you would have to increase the price to offset the time and investment involved would not make it more palatable to the consumer. I agree with you
The hook isn't pointing sideways. You'll have a better hook up ratio
True, which is why some of the silicone rings have a nub at the top where you can hook it either way. Another case is the hook is fully exposed on a ring as where only half the hook it out and already buried in the worm with the old school rigging.
Wow that's a great review can't be more fair to both the buyers or the manufacturer perfect 👍 love it thank you
Thanks! Just doing what I feel is right with my best attempt to not throw specifics out.
If you throw a lot of wacky rig sticks the mold is great and shoots great and for 100 bucks it’s well worth it and saves both baits and time.
So do you have evidence to back this up? It takes seconds to throw a silicone ring on and my tests show the ring is stronger. Just curious. When saving time, are you including all the extra time it takes to use the wrap mold to make the baits?
Nice review on the mold! I just ordered their brush reaper as I was looking for a non copywright brush hog style mold to start selling some baits locally and theirs stood out to me.
Nope I won't buy that mold.
You are a free thinker like me!
Great video.. it really seems like people are using the mold in question to add a band of color.. and just think if you used the mold in question it would have been thinner even though you drilled it out... thanks for the info
Why not just buy some 1/4" stainless rod and grind/file the ends down a little to fit in the existing worm mold. Essentially make your own core shot with a larger center?
You could do that, but strength was not really any different. 2.4 vs 2.2 lbs I believe is what I came up with. Not worth the effort.
I on 2 other RUclips videos stated I was disappointed. I don't throw the wacky rig, I don't like the wacky rig. Just as I don't dropshot. The gentleman in the video couldn't understand my point. I was disappointed because of all the things for a great company to make, this was it. Better more realistic craw mold, better lizard molds and different size molds more cavities of an already great mold. I didn't see the reason behind this. The only thing I could see is if a person was selling that bait, it could be used to make the bait look different to other makers baits. I like the other channel and the videos on that channel, the hand pouring work is outstanding, but I see no reason for this. Mann's baits did this type of thing some years ago, the Hard Nose baits. It went nowhere, was going to change fishing, save money. Where are they at today? Not sold and I believe for the most part the company is out of business.
Thank you for the view and sharing my same thoughts! It’s appreciated!
What colorant are you using on your spray gun
Lureworks WB. Debating on switching over and trying the SB stuff if it flows better through the air gun.
How'd it turn out?
Good for single color, not dual. Made a full video on it.
Cool video man, dont.see alot of people air brushing soft plastics. I do a little bit but it's definitely an involved process.
Thank you. Airbrushing is a bit of a pain, can’t argue that; but sometimes it’s the best way to get the desired effect as you probably know.
@@grimtasticbaits definitely, but also worth the work. A WHOLE lot of cool.stuff can be done with an airbrush and soft plastics
Nice match. Like the way you described what you were doing including comment about air pressure. I also like working with the Pearlex mica powder
Thanks for the view and comment!
wonderful
They charge a lot for the molds so that if they get sued, they can pay some good lawyers.
It’s not a lot for what you get and it isn’t exactly like the Gee Crack. There is a definite difference. If there wasn’t, I wouldn’t have bought it.
@@grimtasticbaits I'm referring to bug molds.
@@pandafox94 Ahhhh! I agree. However, being from the Ukrain nothing will probably come of that if there was a law suit.
Also i figured that they hand pouring method can work but the plastic or the mold need to be really hot to allow the cavities to be filled up. My guess is the plastic is cooling down and becoming more firm, leading to imperfections.
@@pandafox94 They do offer their non copywright bait selection but pretty limited as far as bass fishing goes!

How to get that?
That is truly beautiful!
The lines running down the ridges is the venting.
Indeed! I also found out from the owner when he reached out to me about the video that a second set of vents is all along the outside of the bait at a depth of .001”! Pretty fine tuned!
@@grimtasticbaits pretty wild that the plastic doesn't go out through there but it's too thick to flow through that small space. Tight Lines.
Great mold! Also works great on a Neko Rig
I forgot about that! I even have some worm weights I could use to run it. Thanks!
