Bauhaus and the White City

What is the Bauhaus? What is the difference between the Bauhaus and the International Style? Why is Tel Aviv called the. ‘White City’? What are the idea or philosophy behind the Bauhaus? How can we see those ideas in the buildings in Tel Aviv?

Absolutely loved this! So insightful and far reaching… loved learning more about architecture, the brain and that cannabis can reverse the ageing process… really?! So beautifully put together and produced… can’t wait for the next one 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you my friend for such a thoughtful message! -you don’t need the cannabis- you are ageless!
Wow brilliantly presented and very informative. Lovely. Thank you for sharing
Thanks Shelly!
Brilliant! Very interesting. Thank you
Thank you!!!
Thank you for a fascinating video! I need to go see the building. I love the brain drawings!
I also love those drawings! From the 1800’s!!!
What a gorgeous building !Nice learning about the man and inspiration !
Thank you Faith!
Great! Please can you do a review of the building at Gan Hanadiv at the entrance to the Rothschild Gardens (and also Baron Edmond du Rothschild crypt in the gardens).
Thank you Guy! Yes definitely to the Rothschild Crypt, that’s a beautiful building with a good story!

@@pameladavidson-architectur3804 I suggest two separate clips, because they are two entirely different structures. The visitors center outside the gates is the most impressive 'forested' roof I've ever seen.
Very interesting I’d love to visit it. To me, the central water channel reminds me of the spinal cord leading up to and connecting to the brain.
Thanks Anna! That’s something I had not thought of!
Another wonderful insight into Israel’s most interesting buildings. Keep up the great work.
Thanks Jon, you’re a solid fan!
So informative! Thanks Pam!
Its a magnificent shul and this video gave it a lot more context. So enjoyed!
Thank you Persha! Any requests for Israeli architecture review?
Thanks, Pam, I found this video very interesting, albeit that my knowledge of architecture and art are somewhat lacking in all areas!
I'm so happy you enjoyed it! No previous knowledge needed!
Loved this video, really learned a lot
Thanks Nik! More on its way
So beautiful. Thanks Pam. And great explanations!
Thank you so much!
Another wonderful tour. I’ve not been since 1987. I must go back. Thanks Pam x
Definitely worth the trip!
Sorry, but I simply cannot join in on all the accolades. The bridge might be a lovely structure on its own, but it is totally in the wrong place and has absy nothing to do with the Jerusalem landscape. Calatrava works his magic over water, like in Bilbao, but not in landlocked, crowded areas like the entry to Jerusalem. Before it was built there was the possibility of writing oppositional texts, which I did. The city engineer, Uri Shetreet, actually read my text and even called me to discuss my opposition. We spoke for over a half an hour. I wasn't the only person who opposed it. Clearly, it didn't help. I do not accept that the bridge has been a great addition to the city. Jerusalem is sadly becoming a mishmash of undistinguished high-rises, and the powers that be are convinced that this will make it an international city. And now they want to add the ultimate insult to injury, with the projected cable car. JERUSALEM has its trie character precisely when it isn't try to be something it's not. And there's nothing more provincial and sad than that.
Thank you for your thoughts Ahuva! I know you are not the only one who thinks the bridge is out of place and I won't try convince you otherwise. Jerusalem is a place of 'complexity and contradiction' and opposition to a highly visible structure is all part of the mix. I love that you wrote to the city engineer about your thoughts, and I love that he not only replied, but took your comments seriously enough to engage in a 30 min conversation. Don't imagine that because the project went ahead, that your comments 'didn't help'. I see that you are dismayed at the 'mishmash of undistinguished highrises' and I couldn't agree more. One thing the Calatrava bridge isn't, is undistinguished. What building do you think epitomizes Jerusalem's true character? I'll be happy to do a review on it.
So informative! I actually have always loved the bridge, since it does tie in to ancient Jerusalem: David's harp! And yet it has such a modern design. I love that paradox, so much like Jerusalem itself (herself? It's hard not to refer to Jerusalem as a living being!) Bravo to Santiago Calatrava and to you, Pam, for this interesting architectural insight and history!
Thanks Brynn, I also see cities as living beings, and Jerusalem is a really old, wise one! So inserting a building into the existing fabric is a sensitive exercise, not easy to do, and really well done here!
Very interesting, Pam. I've been under the Jerusalem bridge many times. Originally I didn't like it! I though it was a modern monstrosity in the beautiful, ancient city. Now I love it! So I commend the wonderful, far-sighted people that had the courage to proceed with the project. Keep the videos coming.
Did you see yourself -and other Aliyat haregal troopers going under the bridge in the video!!
Pam, I learned so much from this short, well done video! Very exciting, informative, fast moving and passionate!! Keep up your great work!!
