MSR ACCESS 2 Outer pitch footprint first hack. Simple and very easy!
Просмотров 7 тыс.3 года назад
Clip system here: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/113715781232 The MSR ACCESS 2 is a very popular and robust 4 season tent. Lightweight, strong and with excellent internal space, what's not to like? Well, the tent is designed as an inner pitch first tent, and as such it would appear it cannot be pitched with the fly first in bad weather. However, it most certainly can, and this video will teach you how.

All very well while you are OUTSIDE the tent! But how the hell do you get in and then repeatedly seal it and unseal it from inside? Not to mention that in repeated use, that mesh is going to snag and tear. So yes, a quick and cheap fix for inside your home, but out in the real World, it won't last 5 minutes.

Anyone know if this problem have been fixed in the newer Osmo version? I mean if they changed the way the rainfly is attached to the poles? Or do you know if this problem is also on the dagger?

I'm 59, had loads of tents and used them in Scotland, USA, Baffin Island, French/Spanish Pyrenees. Vaude are superb, Vango are excellent, Big Agnes 2p seedhouse was interesting, but I'll only buy Hilleberg now. Not the lightest, but I can sleep at night, and never worry about failure.

Hi man ,ok not fun what happened, but the first claim is for you ,the positioning of the tent is totally wrong ,big ventilation face to the wind .and seems the wind is far more 20 m/ hour .

I agree that this tent is not suitable for windy conditions. There is a Hilleberg Freestanding Dome Tent with independent 3 poles that I personally think is suitable for these weather situations.

It’s the one issue I have with the Nemo tents is you can’t batten down the hatches so to speak. I get the venting or whatever the reason you can’t pull down the fly. I have the Dagger and same big gap in the fly going almost halfway up the side. To those say to put the head end into the wind. I’ve fallen asleep with no wind and woken up at one in the morning with crazy wind so sometimes you don’t even know which way the wind is going to come from. I’m a huge Nemo fan but was disappointed when I set my new Dagger up and couldn’t pull down the fly. Thinking of getting a Big Agnes for my next tent for this one sole reason.

Great video. Well delivered. I'm trying to settle on a clothing system for multi day long distance mountain walking. Atm I use the traditional layering system- base, fleece, windshirt, synthetic puffy and gortex shell. Of course, in a down pour you eventually wet out....and stay wet. Could a pile / pertex system work? Eg buffalo? Too hot for summer though? Is paramo better for all season walking?Isn't pertex easily ripped and burnt? Could a ventile / pile combination be more durable? I don't have the budget to experiment. I need to try to pay once and cry once. What a rabbit hole!!! :)

Well explained review of the plie and Pertex system. I've tried some of the lighter types, such as Rab's Vapour-rise and Mountain Equipment's Kinesis and a couple of Polartec Alpha pieces and found them all just too hot to walk in even at freezing temperatures. I found myself with the zips open and sleeves rolled up whilst moving and only needed to batten down the hatches when stopped or at low activity levels. I decided to give Paramo's system another chance (after several years of keeping it in storage and have a couple of newer, better cut items now). I've found this works much better for me whilst active and is just warm enough for short stops. I'm liking the Velez jacket, with the new mesh liner, which works well over a woolmesh base layer. It, like my older Velez Adventure Light smock, isn't warm enough at low activity levels or when stopped for more than a few minutes at freezing temperatures over just a light baselayer so my rather old Rab Xenon has found a new lease of life as an over layer. Paramo was developed originally from pile-lined prototypes and it has similarities in how it works but, despite a lot of people dismissing it as too hot I don't agree. I think many people are using conventional layers under system-type clothing that's designed not to need them, or at least that's what I've observed.

I used the Montane yesterday at just below freezing. I’m in my sixties and was using it for a local walk and some woodland photography. Just had a base merino underneath. I agree for my relatively low rate of activity I definitely need an extra layer underneath or outer when I stop. Excellent review, thanks.

In my experience attaching the velcro strips is what causes this. If they are not attached, the rainfly material is able to move over the poles and “give” allowing movement in the tent to be back and forth always returning to and maintaining it’s overall shape and protection. Also important to recognize it as a lightweight backpacking tent and not a mountaineering tent. Each has purpose but not interchangeable.

Great idea. Do you have any ideas for doing the opposite - making a mesh inner warmer in cold conditions? Be interested to see a video on this.

I don’t wish to cause any trouble, but the windspeed looks to be far greater than the 20mph you claim it was - I checked it up on the Beaufort scale - and you don’t appear to have erected the tent as per the instructions either, you put it up the wrong way round, the front of the tent is supposed to face into the wind, and not the back with the cut-away as you have, so of course it all blew down, because the wind was being funnelled into the tent with no way of escaping, which was only compounded because you don’t appear to have staked the tent out properly, if at all - I’ve watched every RUclips video regarding this tent, and everyone else is very happy with it, and you are the only one who has had a bad experience with it - So I found the video actually very useful, and I still plan on buying it, thank you.

The inner pitch first has always put me off this tent. Surprised you can’t get some webbing with grommets in to set the poles. I think could potentially work better than with a ground sheet.

We're looking to do this to our family tent that doesn't have a fly mesh on any doors (bit of an oversight on our part when buying). Glad to see it worked for you, although if you stick it on the outside, how can you seal it from the inside? Did you find that an issue? Thanks for the vid :)

I wear the Extreme next to skin while walking in anything less than zero or "feels like" with wind. That is when it works. Despite it absolutely hammering down, you don't feel wet - even though you are. weird. Get a Special 6, they are nice but the Extreme is better value.

I have Questar (0 degrees comfort) I like a lot of moments here,Water repellent coating works, hydrophobic down probably also not bad (i don't know what will be in 5 or 10 years with properties of down ).Synergy system works good - cool .But i have to say than quality of down is Not the best for this price.Maybe because it is Duck down, maybe because a bit to much feather but I noticed that the scores of fill power went down, a dead zone has formed in the chest area - down distribution is not very even and this cold zone increases with the time (not long time) . My next bag will be with 800 FP Goose down

I tested the Nemo Dragonly (Bikepack 2P) in similar conditions. But I had a completely different experience, the tent held up perfect through a very windy night. One tip: If possible put the head-end not in the wind direction, than the wind can't get into the tent. I very stormy conditions guy out the middle of the head-end as well. Edit: Here is a video of it: ruclips.net/video/NnMZ52tKBIs/видео.html
