I've been there, and it has all been ruined...a long time ago. Pavement. There are few unpaved places in the Keys. It seems to be a never-ending series of seedy strip malls broken only by the bridges between them. I was also shocked at the number of homeless.

I was born at West Ave. & 8th Street. In the '50s and early '60s you could cross West Ave. blindfolded, day or night. A building stands where my grandparents owned a 32 unit building at 8th, directly across from the Fleetwood Hotel, an old deco-style 1920s/30s hotel, which was replaced in probably 1960 by Southgate Towers. This video really takes me back. This expensive neighborhood was one of the poorest on the beach when I was a kid. It certainly has changed!!

Goodness, I just subscribed to your channel. I just commented on your one at Cutler Ridge Mall. My wife and I used to come down to this area when we were dating (88-92). I'm not sure exactly where this is, but we used to go to a Tiki Bar in Islamorada. I proposed to her at a bar in Homestead/Cutler called Keg South.

THANKS SO MUCH for posting this!! I started my career with JCP in that mall. I was there from 1988-1992. Our store was destroyed and I also lost my home (Culter Ridge about 2 miles from the store). It was first home I ever bought - got it after getting out of the USAF. Prior to working at that store I was stationed at HAFB (1984-1988). JCP moved me and my wife later that year. We hope someday to go back and see the area though I'm surf it has changed dramatically.
