    Thanks for keeping this video up. I hadn't thought of using it on inner edge of outer cells. Good tip with that door tag logic, with how it's position is better known

    Hi, would you be able to explain how to fill the color for the bodies of water on the current version of Mapbox? I can't seem to find a way to set up that second color condition. Thanks

      Nevermind, looks like I was just missing a step where I had to select all of the colors available then hit Done, and after that I was given the option to assign a fallback color. Great videos by the way!

    hello tom , hope you're doing great ! in my quest of doing dnd Campaign with my friends i came across your tutorials for making maps with agzaar and watabou's tools , in your 4th video of the topic you talk about putting watabou's medieval cities map in mapbox directly, however i see that you didn't publish the tutorial nor your svg to geojson converter tool . are you willing to publish your converter to github (if it isn't already published) so that i can try to put maps too in mapbox ? thanks for your time ans sorry if i make mistakes ,english is not my first language .

      I did post it somewhere on github years ago. Unfortunately, either Azgaar or mapbox changed something in the specs and it stopped working, so I haven't bothered keeping up with that.

      What did you do to do that? I've got the Dragon Eye atlas on mapbox for years and still haven't exceeded the free tier.

      @@LemuriaGames At first I thought I was the victim of bot attacks, but this is impossible as my map was private with no view requests. After talking with their billing and support teams, I know what happened: in their terms and conditions, it says they can set the precision/accuracy/resolution of your data to whichever level they think is necessary for your needs. Normally this resolution is 10m or above which is free, but for some reason they charged me for 3cm scale accuracy of the entire earth, multiple times over for each data layer. This should not have been possible as this level of billing requires a special deal made with the sales team before this level of accuracy is even accessible. Obviously they never contacted me and just decided to charge me 14k without my knowledge then wait for it to accumulate interest fees. The price would go up by $100 almost daily, and I ended up being charged 15k for something like 96,000,000 square km of data just from uploading the cells, culture, state, and biome layers. Mapbox is an extremely predatory company and I am not the only person they have tried this with, I only got my money back after a fraud investigation and threats of legal action. For anyone using mapbox still, I would recommend using a prepaid visa debit card as your required payment method. They sent collections after me, but at least with a prepaid they wouldn't be able to drain your entire bank with one transaction.

      I'm using Unity. I know there are plugins to make asset selection and dragging it into the scene easier. I actually own two or three. I never found them to be that much help, though.

    Apart from the lack of city block wide parking lots, this looks like an American city planners wet dream. Stroads everywhere and half the city allocated for cars. The overall density is not that big after all. Definitely a city I would not want to live in if it could be avoided.

    Those are 6 lane roads not 4 lanes. And yeah having 50% of your cities surface be roads solves traffic. Also the queue of cars coming in means that there will be more cars in your city if you give the game enough time to let them in. You are currently enjoying the delay between population showing in the total and their cars arriving. You might still get a gridlock when all the cars have arrived.

      2 lanes are blocked by parked cars pretty much everywhere. And no, there is no gridlock appearing later. I waited for it while the city grows from 140k to 195k and if anything, traffic improved because the traffic jam from people coming in became a bit less.

    I have a better way of doing the contours. Select the cells layer, and do a "random points in polygon" function. Make sure the points inherit the attributes from the polygons so they contain the height data of the cell they are in. If they don't use one of the join functions to accomplish this. Now, go to the points attribute list, make a new column, name it whatever you please, and use the exuals expression function: attribute(height) + rand(-10, 10)" This will create a new column of data where all height data for each point is pushed up or down by no more than 10 meters, randomly. From this data, you can generate a DEM, or digital elevation map, which will have much more detail than the height map from Azagar's. You can iterate this to get more and more detail as you please, using the DEM to create more points, rnadomizing those points, and so on until you are happy with the result. The final DEM can be used to generate your contour lines, or used as is to give your map a 3D mode, since you now have a 3d height map.

      After looking at this, I still think it's a great idea, but I'd want it more fleshed out to take care of rivers (ensure they always flow downhill, etc.) Not yet sure how to do that, except with a couple complex queries on the rivers layer.

      @@LemuriaGames I had the same issue. I solved this by making a DEM using real DEM data and photoshop to create a 16bit grayscale tif. I used the Az heightmap as a general guide for this process... In effect, I was able to blend and overlay patches of the real world to make the DEM. This took about an hour to set up, and about 3 hours of fiddling to refine to a point I liked. I was then able to use r.watershed in Grass to generate rivers... They don't have names though. I'm working on getting names attached to them.

    Hey, super Videos, alle 4 dieser Serie bisher!!!! Ich hoffe, dass die nächsten auch noch irgendwann rauskommen. Ab jetzt aber auf englisch, falls die Fragen noch für andere interessant sind. First thing is, I didn't want to install php on my machine, so I have rewritten the script in python. The problems that you had with the incorrect topology did not happen with my implementation. I don't know why since I just translated your script, but I think it's a good effect.... The second thing is concerning measurements. I did not see you measuring any distances anywhere. But one of the first things I tried was the measuring tool in QGIS and I noticed that the distance between two cities (~190km) was completely different to the distance in Azgaar's generator (30km, which is desired). Did you care at some point? Or how do you handle this in QGIS or Mapbox? I already tried to set up custom CRS in QGIS but with no success.

      I always worked towards the GIS, so I didn't much care what Azgaar's had to say about distances. I still want to make the final videos one day, but I have way too many projects on my table right now.
