An Ultra-Novice Tries to Fix the Neck/Headstock on a Takamine Acoustic

My guitar was decapitated and I gave it the old college try. Was originally a circa 1998 Takamine G Series Acoustic Dreadnought 6-Six String with built in EQ and pickup. Kindly disregard the out-of-sync audio around 4 minutes, it will resolve soon after it starts. The Very Basics of Rhythm
Просмотров 859 месяцев назад
In this video, we discuss how musicians know when to play notes and how long to hold them, which is a concept we call rhythm. Note length/duration, tempo, time signature, and how to count the beat are all addressed in detail. Forgive the pixelation of the notation examples.

The Very Basics of Piano

No piano or music experience needed for this video. Good for absolute beginners, or those looking to sharpen their basic skills. Special Note: Hasty editing is like driving a car hastily, it can cause accidents. The true letter notes for Ode to Joy in the example should have been: EEFGGFEDCCDEE (DD) not FF Even the basics can be hard to get right after 30 years of trying!

Trumpet Progression 1 For Trumpet Choir
Просмотров 22911 месяцев назад
Found this progression while messing around on the piano. I think the most interesting part about this progression is that it begins and ends with the same chord, but sounds like it's traveled to another place altogether. Bach would not approve - too many parallel fifths. Intonation issues due to technology limitations.

Thank you for this , keep up the informative content
Awesome video, thanks
thank you for this. Over the years I have self taught the piano and can play. All well and good you may think BUT I have small hands and my self-taught fingering is hopeless. I get stuck once the music speeds up or is more complex. I have decided to try and unlearn my muscle memory and start again but I have two issues. First, as I have been playing for many years (Bach at a snail’s pace and sometimes an ‘edited version’ ) my muscle memory is ingrained and Second, most piano tutoring books teaching fingering also assume very limited musical knowledge and so I get bored and lose the will to live. Do you have any recommendations and hints for me?
Breaking old habits can be tough! But there are a lot of good remedies to increase your speed and dexterity. I have my students play Hanon exercises. They are free online. They are exercises that get you used to correct fingerings but also stretching and moving your position to other keys. As always, we play these very slowly so our nerves have time to respond. Once you literally sleep on that, you will have gained some muscle memory. Another good option are the Pace piano Finger Builders. They solely focus on fingerings for scales, exercises, etc. You’d have to purchase the Pace books but you can get Hanon online for free. www.hanon-online.com/ There are also adult accelerated books that go through theory quickly so you’re not bogged down with slow building. Personally, I’d rather have small hands, as big hands have no way to scrunch tightly for minor seconds. With your hands, articulate your wrist side to side to give more length to your thumb and pinky. Thanks for watching the video! Best of luck with your fingering skills.
@@robFFFtrumpet thank you
Let's start at the very beginning, that's a very good place to start!
thank you! this will be a great start!
Great playing!
Does this solo have any b flats or sharp notes?
It’s in the key of G so there is an F# in the key signature. The cadenza at the end has some chromatic notes at the end which are accidentals.
thank you!
No video?
Interesting. When trying to play higher notes, how do you overcome the idea that your not going up a "ladder"??? as opposed to playing a piano where you simply hit notes to the right as you go higher. Let's say your struggling at high C. You start to feel like its a glass ceiling your approaching, where your sound starts to top off. And visually when you look at the staff, the higher notes are stacked at the top. So it seems like a hard mind set to re think.
You’re exactly right. Range does feel like a glass ceiling at times. That’s a distressing feeling. So what I propose is to put your mind in a different perspective. You’re not hitting those high notes because they’re too high, you’re not hitting them because something in the setup or air isn’t right. I think the notion of seeing notes as a ladder is just how we can perceive the notes, so why not make it horizontal? The important thing to do is have a reminder that there is no glass ceiling, just notes we haven’t quite figured out yet. Those notes are there and achievable, we’re just not changing things enough in the register for the notes to come out. When I start my warm up routine, I have a few things in front of me, including a keyboard. I like to close my eyes when I’m warming up to focus more energy to listening to my sound and I can see the keyboard in my head and I can see the notes as I play them. Trumpet playing is, IMO, confidence that you can do something. Having a horizontal note sequence is just a way to add confidence. It’s not for everyone, but maybe a tool that can help you not try so hard, because reaching means you have to force more, while stepping means you might have to adjust your step, but it’s not another note.
This was really helpful. I should’ve looked out for some of those things in my audition.
Hopefully you have plenty of auditions ahead of you to put your knowledge into action. If you have an idea for video that might be helpful for something you’re struggling with, let me know, chances are lots of others are having the same struggles.
I’m auditioning for wake county band and this really helped. Thank you!
Cool. Good luck to you. I’m planning on recording a video sometime soon of things I looked for when I judged auditions and some tricks to help you.
The scales played in this video all being on the root/tonic. It does not cover playing in positions. The major scale is played with three strings for two octave ability and to learn the simple shapes.
