I've really enjoyed the game, I'm glad to see someone covering it. My first experience with the system was as a GM at my table I took the initiative to learn it. Found it easy to learn but I also struggled a bit in combat, because they're a lot of mechanics/statuses to keep track of. But I got used to it quickly because they're mostly just 1 sentence length and each class lists all the technical jargon at the front of the class so its easy to look up. (If a player was struggling with a ruling, I didn't have to jump to several different places in the pdf I could just look at the front of their class to know what they're talking about).

I appreciate your review. I think you may have misunderstood some fundamentals (for example, +1 boon gives you d6 to add to your d20 roll), but you probably have a better handle on it than I do. There are some major balance issues, but it should be fixable over time as the game gets more play testing. One thing for me that can help in “getting” the combat system is understanding that it is more like anime/manga than the more gritty narrative system. Expect battles unlike anything you’ve done before, if you come from a dnd base. (Though there is some of the 4e feel, it is also far less crunchy and constrained).

Wine and cheese is basically just a monarchy for ttrpgs lol. Gm could be great or terrible, regardless all players at the table are subject to their rule. Given my experience playing this game as a gm, it felt a lot like interactive story telling; the gm presents a scenario while the players get to be involved via a simple system of making creative choices. You could say this about any rpg, but wine and cheese focuses on the raw essence of these types of games by not being hindered by extensive rules and various game mechanics.

I hope this game takes off like LANCER. I've been playing ICON as a master in a year long campaign which has been incredible for my friend group and meeting new players here in México, as I promote the system among those more artistic players who are into the idea of rolepalying but are intimidated by D&D's mechanics. Its a great system for those more familiar with video games and their aesthetics, and I've been called by hobby caffe groups to use this system as a tool for newer players into getting familiar with the hobby. My current campaign group is entering the endgame of their Chapter 3 and each has ambitions of their own on how to shape the world with their own individual guilds. The goal is hitting Max 12 Level and it has become my favorite system.

Thanks for doing a video on this. I really agree that they could integrate narrative and combat modes more, but also I don't know how they would do it. Great video! What do you think about researching more about RPG's? This game takes it's narrative play mechanics from Blades in the dark, while the combat system is taken from Lancer. What is your opinion on them?

I appreciate how you addressed the topic. I remember one time I was playing DnD with my work friends and our characters got drunk. He then said that our characters started having sex- which made me suuuuuuuuuuper uncomfy. Especially since the person playing the other character was a work buddy. I definitely would've appreciated something like this in that situation.

i've been eyeing this game for some time and i have to agree that the artwork and class abilities are so flavorful and evocative, i'd love to try it out with my table someday :^)

It's a pretty nifty game system. I'm playing as a duck-like Lorito beast folk. He's a Warden who's really good at sensing and sneaking. We had a combat session last night and it was pretty interesting in that we were scratching our heads trying to figure out what kind of beast I could summon. I think the DM was kind of regretting letting me pick that class since it involves having to create yet another thing with a stat block on the fly.

This was a good review- I loooooove the art and the flavor in this system
