How to lubricate synth faders
I couldn’t find a whole lot of info on how to lubricate faders so I decided to make my own video. Cleaning these is pretty straightforward. You can use isopropyl alcohol if you’re concerned about damaging any parts with Deoxit or something more powerful. Use a Q-tip / cotton swab and be very gentle taking care not to leave any fibers behind.

Here's a nice example of a home built tube- powered theremin. Visit www.antiqueradio.org (or dig up your 1964 issue of "EI") for details on parts and building. The amplifier is kit K-501 from www.tubesandmore.com. You can get the tubes there too, of course. The speaker is a Celestion 30-some dollar model, also from antique electronic supply.
Very strong signal heard near 40 meter band - HQ-180

I was tuning around the 40 meter band a few nights ago and heard this very strong pulsing noise. I could hear it from 6.75 to about 6.84 MHz. It lasted for about 30 minutes and then faded away. Any ideas on what it could be?
Installation of dog run cable
Просмотров 31 тыс.7 лет назад
Most everything can be purchased at Home Depot. The cable is "Everbuilt" 3/8 inch vinyl coated cable. The clamps are also 3/8 inch. This is largely over-built, but I wanted to make sure it would hold up for quite a while. Make sure to use the proper masonry bit (one specifically for use with a hammer drill) and a hammer drill if drilling into brick like I did. Also, 3/8 inch sleeve anchors are ...
Hey Daniel, are you still out there? I’m trying to build this same theremin and I’m having so much trouble. I’d love to pick your brain if you don’t mind. Thanks!
I am indeed still here although this project has been on the shelf for quite some time as I never got around to building a case/cabinet for it. How can I help you?
@@daniellewis5302 awesome. Thank you so much. I have a terrible hum that I can’t get rid of. And I was curious about that diode. The one where the positive is going to ground. Did you reverse that or just put that cap across it. Any suggestions about the hum would be great. I am using a two prong plug, but I have a three prong that I can put into it. Would you recommend that?
@@TroyBrokenshire I made another video with the details of construction that might clear things up for you. ruclips.net/video/ZjPcQ-R8f6U/видео.html Definitely use a three prong plug, yes and absolutely connect the chassis to earth ground. This will effectively turn the "common" symbols on the schematic into "ground". Take care to cross signal and AC power at right angles to one another. Regarding that diode: the "positive" side of the diode indicated by the plus sign on the schematic is incorrect - the positive side of the diode is the end that does not have the band. Make sure the end of the diode that DOES have the band is connected to circuit ground or common. In the video I linked above you will see that I drew in diode bars on the schematic to make the symbology more modern.
@@daniellewis5302 I saw that video. I’ll watch again. I will be changing the plug to three prong. My diode is in correctly then. Thanks!
@@daniellewis5302 I connected the chassis to earth ground, but I still have the hum. I’m not sure why. As far as I can tell AC power is at a right angle to anything at crosses.
I have the 950s but it's off frequency any idea how you get it back on frequency
Tune the radio to a known frequency like WWV or some other standard that you know is good (like another radio) and then adjust the 950’s TCXO until you zero beat with the frequency of interest. The TCXO is on the PLL board (I think, it’s been a while since I’ve had one open). Say WWV zero beats on 10.000.010, the idea is to tune the 950 to 10.000.000 exactly and then adjust the TCXO until it zero beats again.
Hey bud if yur still out there THANK YOU. I am just getting back into radio after clearing out all my equipment 5 years ago. I nabbed a very nice 950-SDX on QRZ Swap Meet which happened to be 20 minutes down the road today for 1k. There are so many radio RUclipss that basically show what a lot of RX sounds like and maybe a few main elements. I was hopin' and a prayin' that someone took the time to go across the whole face of the radio in person before I ever drag my weary eyes across that manual. This was the perfect Big Bad Radio 101 intro course. Thanx again.
Glad I could help! Since posting this I upgraded to the 'SDX then to an Elecraft K4 but I still appreciate the design and effort that Kenwood took to fit all of this into a nice looking radio! Let me know if you have any other questions or issues.
a great video. i have just bought a 950s but the on-off switch does not seem to work. any suggestions
track and contact fingers should not be greased. Only the inside of the metal housing. The track is to be deoxidized and cleaned only.
Sorry to say but you are using way too much, really waaaay too much, there should be hardly any lube in this type of fader.
I’d say I’ll use less next time but I hope to never do it again!
I bought a TS-950SD at the Orlando Hamcation and I am very pleased, only fault I've found is RF Gain pot is a bit scratchy, likely some Quietrol will correct this. But I noticed one characteristic is a surprise: the manual states that the operator can practice with a paddle or straight key by putting the rig in any mode but CW. I've found that I get the keyer sidetone in CW mode only, so I set the Power control at 0 and connect to a dummy load for sending practice.
Not quite sure what they meant by that as I only ever heard a side tone in CW mode as well, but to “send” CW without transmitting, just make sure VOX is turned off (turning VOX on enables transmit in CW mode).
Hi Daniel. I have a technics sl 1200 turntable. It needs some lubraction on the pitch fader. Do you think it needs re greasing or does desol do the trick??
Im on this exact same topic. Just cleaned an sl1200mk2 pitch, using Tuner 600 and its a bit dried out..i might just try a tip of 3in1 oil but still searching for other results.. btw videos by DJ Legion have a great instruction. I think he uses Deoxit? To lube the tracks after cleaning..
@@undergroundmixsessions Yeah, I bought a bottle of deoxit fader f5 faderlube. Its a little expensive. but, it worked a real treat. However my 1200 MK5 is just really buttery smooth! and I cant unsee it now lol Its so weird, When these tturntables are in brand new condition, and 1 little thing happens, It stands out and even though its fixed, My OCD kicks in lol Thank you for the replay, and also for the heads up on the DJ legion videos. Much appreciated
What kind of dog is that? I have one that looks the same and it's a terrier mix.
Are you working on a Juno-106?
Good guess but it’s a Juno-60.
@@daniellewis5302 ahh.. that’s what got me. I have a Juno 6 and 106. The stepped HPF made me think 106. The innards of the LFO fader made me think Juno 6!
Getting this cable taut is damn near impossible!
Yeah it’s not easy especially by yourself. I found the best way was to loop some rope around the angle bracket and use it like a snatch block to give mechanical advantage when pulling the cable. You could also just use an actual snatch block or pulley of some kind.
Nice video and very helpful. I have a 950SDX and notice that quite often the antenna tuner tuner just won't tune even though my SWR is low (1.2:1) - you'll just hear the tuner making that chugging sound and then beep at the end without tuning it. Wondering if you've ever heard of this type of problem on the SD or on SDX? Thanks!
I have not experienced any difficulty with the built in tuner except for some squealing of the capacitor bearings in the 950 SD I had before this radio. If you know the SWR is low on a certain frequency you shouldn't need the tuner anyway - Sometimes it's difficult for the tuner to get any better than what you already have and it can just make things worse.
Under the cap there’s a nice small tip. So you can reach all parts of the fader to lubricate..
Take the cap off the fader grease syringe.. at first it goes kind of hard. Once taken of its a nice closing cap when you put it back on.
recall memory on sdx??
You can add frequencies to memory by using the M.IN button. You press it once select which slot you want the frequency to be stored in, then press it again. To recall stored memories, you use the M. CH selection buttons for either VFO. You can then use the M.CH knob to cycle through memories.
Great build! I built the same one a few months ago. I found that it is really influenced by electromagnetic interference. It only sounds good in one room of my house, and even then it will only work when the TV is off. Once the TV is on, you can hear the interference.

Definitely over kill but it's an investment that will last and piece of mind something I would also do especially if you decide to get a bigger dog
I recently put a new IKON2 with BT on my Goblin 500, and finally got it sorta dialed in but still have a ailiron wobble, some flights it wobbles and others it fine?. On my last flight yesterday I was landing the heli, and out of nowhere it banked to the right very slowly & opposite control didn't bring it back level & the blades strucked the ground? Also the blades were half way despooled, no damage at all. Never had issues like this on my Vbar's! Very disappointed in this product. I will try some 3M vibe tape and hope this resolves some of these PID issues.
Same problem here. I've decided not to use auto level. I am afraid of this erratic behaviour. I don't know how to solve it. It is a shame because one of the reasons I bought Brain2 was this feature,
@@palicio try turning down the cyclic gains in the ikon software?

did you get this fixed?
Yes, I remounted the ikon with some Kyosho "Zeal" gel mounting tape and everything is just fine now.
@@daniellewis5302 if you think its a vibration issue you can check the flight logs in the ikon and see if the vibration is out of range
@@mygsxr1000rider Yes I did so at the time and it didn't really have anything out of whack. It did have lots of "grass". That is, quite a bit of vibration at many frequencies but nothing too large in amplitude. I have heard people say "electric helis don't vibrate" and "if it's vibrating that bad you have other problems" but I disagree. I think it's just that the ikon is more sensitive to vibrations than the BD3SX I had on this previously (notably one of the most tolerant to vibrations at the time)
Very nice demonstration.
What about tree damage?
Grant S I wouldn’t worry about that too much, especially because the tree on which this cable is looped is quite large
I build two theremins using the same article and i didn't need to make any modification to make them work. Regards.
I'm having the same issue with mine going tail down and left. I have 3 of them and they all have bail out issues. I must be doing some wrong.
Thank you for explaining this nice work. Would like to see the whole theremin with both antennas and hear some more samples.
Just as soon as I build it into a box!

same problem. how to solve auto level.
Olá! você resolveu esse problema? no automatico o meu se recupera em posição desnivelada.
I see the trees on the left side of the cable. Do you ever have an issue with that good boy trying to come back on the other side and getting wrapped around?
Jerf H No, the rope isn’t quite long enough. He does sometimes get wrapped around the rhododendron near the door! We have since put a dog house in front of it, so he doesn’t go behind it as much now.
Good deal😃
Use a harness on his back that is cruel for the collar on his neck..how uncomfortable if on a cable 😢😡
I took this video moments after I had tightened the final hardware on this installation and wasn't sure how he would do with a collar. He's not as uncomfortable as you might think, however. He often visits my neighbor in the backyard and lays down so that the line is taut and the collar pulls at his neck and it doesn't seem to bother him. We use a harness on walks and in the car and have since started to use the harness more on the cable also. Thanks for your concern!
