A quick apology for a miscalculation! I didn’t realize the Darkling Elder had blindsight which completely shifts the dynamic of the match up from “really close” to “spooky but very doable.” So while I was technically right the Darkling Elder would win, I misrepresented the odds of victory. Still, getting that pounce in Round 1 would’ve really changed this fight and with good damage could’ve even ended it before it began. Unfortunate for our reptilian friend! Moving on we have the Giant Tick vs the Rug of Smothering. This is a uniquely bad matchup for our otherwise very strong competitor as the Rug being a Construct deprives the Giant Tick of both its most consistent damage and its ability to heal! In fact, that alone turns this match into a nightmare for the Giant Tick. There’s a 60% chance the Rug goes first and a 55% chance it hits. Now this is referee dependent, but by standard format, the grapple is automatic, giving a 33% chance the Tick won’t be allowed to attack without disadvantage. At this point the Tick can choose to attack at a reduced 49% chance of hitting or try to escape and take the roughly 75% chance they’ll either fail or get recaptured before they get a chance to attack again. Ultimately, similar to the Giant Toad’s Swallow strategy, the Tick’s odds get worse the sooner it gets captured. If it doesn’t hit before getting snagged, this becomes a very uphill battle. If it hits once, this’ll be a tight match. If it hits twice without getting grappled, it’ll have some room for error. Three or four hits from the tick will end the match, but the Rug only needs 5 or 6 turns with the Tick grappled, as well. I’d give this pretty tight odds overall with a slight lean in the Rug’s direction. The Tick has the damage output to win this but will it evade the Rug’s grapple long enough to make effective use of that?
