The Celery Fields Regional Stormwater Facility
Sadly, my great Aunt Lorraine has recently passed away at the age of 102. She loved Anna Maria Island until the day she went to be with the Lord.
I am the younger brother of Carl Clausen. One evening my mom was having a party at our family home north of this setting. My older brother pulled into the driveway, came inside, walked up to my mom who was enjoying a conversation with a few friends - and dropped a human skull on her lap, saying, "!0,000 years old". The next day images of this skull and how my brother had discovered / recovered it from this Spring was in the news, literally, all around the world. (He was in the process of delivering the skull up to Tallahassee) My older brother had a family, and were camped, otherwise alone, with a trailer out at this site. I was in college but would frequently drive there to visit him, his wife and their children. He would build a fire, fashioned after how Native Americans would build theirs. We would sit around this fire well into the night talking about Florida's very ancient history, weather/climate changes (My brother told me way back then, "Watch out for the weather!" - he couldn't stress enough how the weather would be changing drastically during my adult life time. That has certainly proven to be true.), and we would talk about so much more. Drinking 'home-made' beer his wife had made in their trailer closet. I have many wonderful memories of this location, respectful for what it was and is, as well as my more personal memories visiting there.
I knew this ranger and learned alot from her and her knowledge. Myakka Park lost an incredible Ranger when she retired. I enjoyed her book as well. Worthwhile finding and reading.

Welcome, 1- how to export data from sonar with extension RSD. 2- when applying the same procedure to create Tin depth of all reach become zero, please
Thank you!
I’m living in Englewood, which has a fishing tradition similar to what you described. Unfortunately, there is less of it remaining every day. Do you have any family history of the boats that were used there before gas power took over? I think sharpies were popular up until the early 20th century. Anyway, thanks for the wonderful story and lovely images,
What a treasure! I’m very interested in the maritime history of my new home. I retired in’18 and moved to Englewood. Even in the lean years of the depression, nobody went hungry in englewood because Lemon Bay was so bountiful. I would have loved to have seen how beautiful this place was 40 years ago. If you have any material on the old sailboats that were used in this area, I’d love to see it. Thanks for sharing this. I know it only has a few hundred views so far, but I can say that each viewer appreciated it.
8:45 - this is real history, a hat on a stand, it’s a nice hat, and the stand is of course blank, but you wonder how excited the woman was when she first perched that hat on her head and looked in the mirror. What expectations did she have, how much did she have to earn to get that hat, who was she hoping to impress? That’s history.
I lived here for two years
@Michelle Calhoun It's without a doubt an amazing place. I'm driving to Northport in two weeks. I wonder if they'll let me visit the spring. I know that land very well.
This is fascinating, Steve. I am so proud of you! - Linda Boucher Lewis (F.H.S. Alumni)

Its a shame what politics has done to the commercial fisherman of florida,They were proud of hard work and honest livings ,now they fish with both hands tied behind their back and allways wondering what new law they know about ,what a shame, big money not science controlling fwc.
Not just politics, the massive influx of people to this area has impacted the environment that made this life possible. I guess when you consider that planning boards and county commissions decide what gets built and how many residential units they will allow, you are right…it is political. I arrived in Florida to see it already in its death throes while the developers are politicians are busy picking the victim’s pockets.
Thank you for the stories.God bless the working man
I was working for Dimitri Rebikoff(1976) and had the pleasure of doing some filming at Little Salt Spring .No question, keeping your witts is most difficult .
How much is your sonar : both sidescan and single beam?
I love Harriet .. I helped take care of her husband for a few years before he passed ..wonderful man . Ive heard many stories from Harriet through the years . A joy to be with and care for her .

I’m so jealous that I can not dive and experience even seeing this. I live in Sarasota and love exploring. I’ve dove many springs and this one has eluded me. It’s cool William Royal and you now wow! If you ever need a hand I’ll drive down anytime any day.
Thank you for sharing your rich history with us.
How do you connect the externe GPS unit? Do you connect it to the Lowrance fishfinder or do you capture the positioning data sepperatley and match depth with the corresponding position while processing?
Jort, It connects to the Lowrance fishfinder through the network connection on the back

I hate listening to the "chuckling" from the contractor who reminisces about the good old days. Boyce left his wife Mary Dell in the 1980s, and she had a hell of a time raising them while he was out at the race track. You destroyed Florida lands Mr Contractor.
I love this video.....brought back so many great memories. Loved hearing the history...You need to more.....
I am sure this lady is well versed and a brilliant mind. But sorry. The most boring slow voice . ! Children would go to sleep listening to her...
well done father time~~~~
Excellent informative video! Pleasant voice, too.
