People, you need to protect the floors and other surfaces. Not to mention cleaning the vent.
That what you do is exactly the right way to do it.. I've been a house Carpenter for close to 40 years doing mostly maintenance and repairs. Oil primer first.
Good video. Can you spray oil base primer on old siding?
Yes you can but you have to back brush/roll it into the wood. 💪. And be extra careful with overspray cause oil base primer is very difficult to remove
Yes always best to do this, I would lie the bag flat just in case.
Thanks for being thorough
Would've been more helpful if you showed how it actually works. How big the gap was and how to put it in and then also how to caulk it.
I’ll remember this advice for any future videos thank you for your input
I was thinking of this. I fell off a ladder at one story some years back. Now I'm going up about 20 feet and I don't want the legs to move. I try and put a good sizzed stone in back. But I like the idea of a sand bag on the bottom rung.
WTF!!!
You remove it first and wash it to remove any dirt and dust particles. That way the paint will look smooth.
Backer rod was invented because even a 40 year old veteran contractor is not perfect ☝☝☝
Can you pls give the primer and paint details
Primer: Kilz Interior Oil Base Primer Paint: It’s been a while but I believe I used a semi-gloss sheen spray can paint of just white Hope that helps!
Also I have seen people who had to keep painting for days and they wrap the roller in the plastic sleeves and continue the next day-can that be done with oil base primer? I am 71 and have to repaint my whole interior for the first time alone. Would I be better off hiring a professional painter and could you give a ball park figure as to what I would expect for approximately 973 square feet? Would greatly appreciate it👍😊👍
That depends on a lot of factors…. I would recommend just having a company do a free estimate maybe 2-3 just to get a picture of what to expect
@@truqualitypaintingtv7814 I think that’s excellent advice👍😊
Do you have a video on cleaning rollers?
Not yet!
THANK YOU I have been a professional caulker for over 40 years. I get so tired of all of the miss-information on caulking on RUclips. Stupid things like “try to force as much sealant into the gap as you can” You are one of the few that gets it right. Just a couple of things to add. While you are right the home centers will generally have 3 sizes of backer rod, it is actually made in many sizes from 1/4” to 4”. As a general rule of thumb the backer rod should be installed not less than 1/4” deep nor more than 1/2”. And within these limits it should be approximately 1/2 as deep as the gap is wide. This will give the sealant the best chance for a long life. Again thank you for putting out the correct information.
What is the comb type thing you use to pull out the paint/thinner?
It’s a brush comb and it’s mainly just to straighten out the hairs of the brush after cleaning. The paint thinner is wicked away with the brush spinner mainly. Good question thanks!
That's a good idea to prime first, then caulk. Do you necessarily need oil base primer, what if the customer prefer 100 % acrylic instead?
My personal opinion is that every exterior painting project can benefit from spot priming… especially over bare wood and over doors/windows but it’s probably not a necessity
@@truqualitypaintingtv7814 Thanks buddy,we truly appreciate your channel and the quick response
i will just buy new brush!
It gets expensive real quick especially if you’re painting everyday.
Would mineral spirits work or is that only for stains?
I'm not sure but I'll look into it!
Will acetone give you the same results as paint thinner?
That's a good question I'll do some research...
Thank you. Your video is very helpful!
Excelent explain buddy ... is not do the job , is do it professional
Thank you for the advice. I’ve been wondering what I needed to fill in the gap between the vinyl siding and my screened porch, now I have an answer.
These are the things that happen to me. You just calmly worked through the top of the paint can popping off. Thanks for the tips.
With the amount of thinners wasted, you could buy a new 🖌️
The thinner isn’t wasted you can use it again but even if you did throw it away the thinner used wouldn’t equal $18-19 dollars for a new brush and you’re also not taking into account the time to go to the store and buy a new brush which is time you’re not working and making money. If you clean your brush well each time you use it and you’re a professional painter it will literally save you hundreds of dollars ROI.
so you need about as much material as a new brush costs if not more lol
Hmmm…..
Did you wet the brush with water first? Thanks for sharing.
Yes 👍
Funny what a bit of music can do. Makes watching something as monotonous and torturous as cleaning your brushes a fairly pleasant experience haha
Kilz works great for primer. Not sure how much that SW costs?
Thanks for the great advice!
If you don't have one of those crumpled up piece of tape works well for a backing.
Easy as depends if blending with flat plaster. Come on man
Mix 5 min or 20 quick set! Two coats of that, then two skim coats of regular plasterer and boom, sand with a light to see imperfections with a sanding sponge!
Would any of the nay sayers who down voted this video explain why? 🤔
I just use some pva mixed with water does the job
Wipe on some 90 minute quick set when your Pre-filling cracks and gaps, sand a few blisters- done. No fuckin around.
I used hot water with washing up liquid soap and the results are identical. My grandmother is happy that I follow her instructions. Regards from Cabrera. Thank you for sharing.
it will not clean up oil based . it is for water based.
Yes hot water and dish soap will turn oil base primer into a gummy mess. You need to use paint thinner to clean oil base primer
Amazing! Thank You! Bless Your heart and gold hands! This is quality work!
I appreciate that thank you!
@@truqualitypaintingtv7814 Do you work in Burien WA area by any chance? 🙏
I appreciate your advice. I will hire You to pint my house. I just did scraped and put oil based primer on my fascia board and south wall of the house that was in terrible condition after about 10 years since last painting with latex primer and paint by SherwinWilliams paint - all peeled, cracked and faded. Thanks!
Great tutorial, thank you. What do you or can you do with the dirty thinner?
You can re-use the dirty thinner the next time you use oil base. Thinner can be used several times over again 👍
@@truqualitypaintingtv7814 reuse for cleaning ?
Great video. Should have way more views :) What are people doing to their poor brushes?
Yeah some brushes get dealt a hard life depending on who buys them
I knocked the spray paint thing off. Lol
Wish you showed how you installed it and see the finish product. Thanks
That’s a good observation I’ll keep that in mind for my next video. Basically you use a knife and you kind of push and roll it at the same time and squeeze it into the gap. It’s really easy
Great video! This will work on gaps for mice?
Add coarse steel wool into the gaps (rodents will not chew into that) then add the backer rod then caulk over that for a nice finish.
Great video. Thank you Also love the music. Who is it and the name of the song? Thank you so much
You know it was a music selection from the Splice Video maker app...I don’t remember which one sorry... it is a nice tune though!
@@truqualitypaintingtv7814 thank you
