The only thing distinguishing a "professional" bridge is the ego of the person identifying it as such. The bridge doesn't care. You don't ne d an iron either. Just soak it in water until you can see it straight and then install it. Just be sure to wrap some yarn around the bridge and the end pin to give it some tension while the wood dries.

How often does the fingerboard of a violin need to be reshaped? My local violin shop redressed my fingerboard less than 5 years ago and recently said it was fin. But when I wanted to use my violin as a trade-in, they suddenly said my fingerboard needs $200 worth of reshaping. Is that reasonable? Fingerboards are ebony. With normal playing, fingers pressing down / vibrato etc..... does the fingerboard really need to be reshaped every 5 years?

I would get myself a 5 string Violin so I can play the Bach 6 Cello Suites an Octave higher than written.

Sorry, apart from the terrible sound (I'm guessing you had the mic attached to your bench because every crash and bash and tool movement made a noise) you covered most of the detail of the removal of each end of the bow behind your left hand - couldn't see what you were doing. Gave up and switched off after 3 minutes.

The 5 String Baroque Violin is often called a Quinton. When I think of a 5 String VIolin I think of the Musician Bobby Hicks who popularized it.

Thank you for the helpful video. Is there a memory effect in bent wood, as with some other materials, and if so, should the bridge then be deliberately bent in the opposite direction (beyond vertical) slightly; and will the bridge then come back to the vertical over time after having been put back onto the violin body and with the strings taut? If bent wood has memory, that is. Or just make it vertical...? I have heard elsewhere that repaired bridges do not stay fixed, and will eventually become bent again.
