Can’t believe you sewed over the pins! Please don’t set that example. I did that for years until I hit one, broke the needle which made a horrible noise and scared me half to death. Then I was without my machine for almost 3 weeks while the timing was repaired and I had a huge repair bill. Absolutely not worth the gamble.

Great tutorial but as you are using the imperial system it's hard for me to visualise the size of the measurements without recalcuating them to metric. It would be helpful if you could include the calcs in cms, as the vast majority of countries use this.

Thanks for the tip on a knot that will pass through the needle eye. I have to try this b/c not all my machines have working auto needle threaders. What size needles do you use?
