The Phoebe Cates - The Eden Express Pt. 1
*JAMC were like an underground mix of Duran Duran and Culture Club*
i was at this show. got polluted drunk and helped chris break that beautiful hammond organ helping him load out. ( it was 90/10 me/him.) then tried stepping out of the van whilst moving through squirrel hill. forbes and murray area. yeah. good times. johnsons always did kill it. 'sup chris, terry, soy sos. keeping it real? i'd bet. 😃😀🙂😐😶🟡 this is christian btw.
I much prefer the sober Jim Reid. He's a very sweet man. Here he just sounds like an ego-maniac.
It's tongue in cheek.
1984 nearly 40 years ago 😞😞
There is bacteria
Sad song x
I saw this when it first aired on Canadian television. I was 11 and it changed my life forever.
Lol what is that song they’re playing in the beginning it sounds nothing like them
Ed down is george costanza when he was young and living in the UK
His level of confidence inspires me.
Douglas is very funny snnnnnfff
1:31 mood. Total mood
Easily Best Indie Band Ever!!!
That dry Scottish humour is priceless. Andy Warhol filled with passive aggression.
Gay
Regardless of his personal taste regarding Joy Division, Jim actually made his point here for another reason - to the present day, lazy journalists and interviewers annoyingly continue to bring up Joy Division (or Sex Pistols for that matter) in order to compare others with them...
That's not his personal taste. He loves Joy Division in all honesty.
the only real comparison would be velvet underground...mary chain were bringing 60s rock back to life they admitted this. joy division was in its own category.
Pardon my language but what the actual FUCK is Bobby Gillespie doing to William Reid in this interview? 7:30?
That’s a girl he’s kissing.
He’s having a shag… lol
I wonder when interviewers eventually realised that interviewing Jim was completely pointless. :D
"No, no, no, your your wrong actually, my guitar is totally out of tune, because my guitar is for kickin'."
Pretentious and unoriginal
Genius and perennially underrated, more like it.
I never fell for these cunts and their contrived 'fuck everybody' (how original) attitude and their distorted regurgitated Beach Boys sounds press darlings in 84 and hyped by the NME as the saviours of rock n roll no less Jesus fuckin' wept!
@@dermot51 At the time I could give or take them, but now I think they're brilliant. Their stuff holds up very well.
@@dermot51 i understand they might not be as original as people think...but they are actually good you can hear it in their demos and acoustic versions of songs it is beautiful stuff. they had 60s influence which included beach boys but so did Ramones. don't hate congratulate.
They were very original for their time!
Jim Reid taking the piss on JD and journalist actually dumb enough to fall for it. He had a Vox guitar in early days, direct link to Ian Curtis.
Jim's Vox Phantom got stolen in Detroit from the back of their van.
@@gwkiv1458 fuckers stole my vox guitar Can't have shit in Detroit
@@gwkiv1458 Good to know... this guitar also stolen in Detroit, but resurfaced 27 years later. ruclips.net/video/CyjBDmEcKAE/видео.html
this feels like a bbc comedy
the quiet "oh god" from the interviewer never fails to crack me up
Joy Division was unambitious 😂 I dont see that at all, but hey JAMC are awesome so I'll let it slide
He was joking lol
Here in Belgium it's known that the interviewer (Bart Peeters) was a huge Joy Division fan, so Jim said those things to get him confused, it was not meant
@@bartb4846 Morrissey and Mark E Smith didn't care for Joy Division. They were probably thought of as too "arty".
The best part is that Joy Division is one of Jim’s favourite bands… he just wanted to annoy the interviewer
Gillespie never speaks on any of the JAMC videos
He's certainly made up for that deficit on the Primals' Instagram feed... Oof. Had to shoosh him on down, by unsubscribing.
He was just the drummer, not the main driving force.
I remember hearing Just Like Honey back in 1985 and thought hey i could do that ,,,of course attitude and originality was where it was at , their acoustic demos back then proved that there were real melodies underneath all that feedback
That last part about Joy Division was spot on.
I was obsessed with JD and even I know it
It's not though is it. They were a fantastic, groundbreaking and one of the most influential bands ever. Jim is actually a massive fan of Joy Division, he's taking the piss, as always. The fact you didn't get that doesn't particularly surprise me as all of your playlists are made up of the worst, and most embarrassing, nu-metal and chart-dance "hits" the 90's had the gall to offer.
Lol all your playlists make me wanna vomit, you’ve no right
Which part of Scotland are they from?
Glasgow
East Kilbride
Totally timeless.
Staged riot by a special gang travelling with the band.
I watched this PiL appearance on "American Bandstand" when it reaired on VH1 in the '90s ('90s teen here -- I was a baby when this was filmed) and about a week later I purchased Second Edition. Very, very effective appearance, this. Also, my strangest crush will always be the one I had on John Lydon as a high schooler.
Almost all of JAMC's early songs are based on the palette that Hendrix laid down with his songs "I Don't Live Today" and "Love or Confusion." Listen to those two songs in their entirety and you can't deny it.
i can see that...people don't give hendrix experience credit even the grunge movement they acted like they werent trying to sound like him what a joke.
along with the songcraft of ABBA + The Carpenters
4:14 is that Neil from Slowdive?
startervisions its Bob reflection
Damn, these guys are bleedin' priceless!
jesus fuck
Bobby ----> kiss,kiss,kiss. hahahahahahahahahahah
Going to make a remaster this video with effects
Cool....
staynobile, The Beach Boys were already The Beach Boys on acid.
lol love
lol he couldnt even make up a reason why joy division could be bad... its impressive how jim keeps a straight face when he says this shit tho
The irony is as much of their act as the squealing feedback and it's brilliant.
Back when Rock n" Roll was still rebellious and cool. For the last 14 years, so-called Rock music is now played by a bunch of un-original, metro-sexual, hipster pussies.
set of cunts! right up there with pol pot and mugabe if you ask me.
I loved punk and this was why. It ripped down the barriers and let the outsiders in. We literally see that here.
I think the irony is lost on most of you chaps.
