Many people know Korea for its K-POP with doll-like looking idol groups but hip hop has been rising in the last couple of years. Its great news for cultural development, but in such a trend-based country like Korea, it can often lead to an exponential rise in hip hop music in Korea but what about its quality control? Are people simply jumping on the band wagon to make a quick buck or is there a...

Owen, and every single Asian rapper in the world, don't ever let anyone, white or black tell you that you aren't good enough for this, follow your heart, fuck the haters, they will always be around...they'll tell you to respect them while they mack on your women? What???? forget that, I hate that shit...hip hop was created by everyone, don't let them discourage you from your goals...Peace. Keep making the best music around.
Rapping is only a portion of Hip Hop, there is DJing, Rapping, B-boying, Graffiti, and most importantly heart.
+Golden Modem For sure. There was actually a segment where Owen talks about that but I had to cut it out for length
Yeah, a lot of people keep saying "this is hip hop" when they talk about the "music", but music is only a part of a whole...I was just worried that a lot of these younger listeners don't know the whole deal...hip hop isn't gangster rap, it wasn't even about that in the beginning...nowadays everybody's trying too hard to be hard...just be yourself...thats what real hip hop is...
+Golden Modem Yes and I think thats what Owen portrays
+Golden Modem I believe hip hop is about messages of experiences and pure passion about arts. The messages are mainly important components for every parts of music and arts. Owen is trying not to lose the main point of it and I strongly agree with your phrase about music.
yup
Owen, don't sell yourself short, Koreans are making the best rap music now, probably the best ever, no one respects the art more than them, and no one ever has or ever will...Asian men are bringing hip hop back where it belongs.
Rapping is the remixed version of Poetry and Philosophy, there in lies the truth...poetry and philosophy have been around for centuries...Hip Hop is the culmination of many different cultural influences that expand far beyond the boundaries of the United States or the black community. That's why I don't make music anymore, I can't find anyone that understands this in the music industry, fuck them...
+Golden Modem I see your point, but Hip Hop was created by the Black community and that can not and should not be taken away from them. Nowadays it has expanded far beyond JUST the Black community, but its genesis will forever lie WITHIN the Black community. It's like baking: the ingredients of Hip Hop might have come from outside the Black community, but the ones that mixed them all together and created the recipe that is Hip Hop are Black people. Nothing but peace I'm sending towards you with these words, just sharing the knowledge.
+Rikuphi I know rap music is the creation of the black community, but to say they started rapping before anyone is a hard case to sell, I see how many black men are racist towards other minorities and expect other minorities to respect them when they don't even respect themselves or other people of color. So I can't respect many of the ones in the music industry who don't even love Hip Hop or rap, they just do it to further boost their egos, many times using their fetish for Asian women or Latin women to do so...all the while dehumanizing Asian men and/or Latin men (I mean Latin men of American Indian descent, not the invasive ones from Spain)..Many black men in the entertainment industry in the early 70's and late 60's used Kung Fu in their blaxploitation films, and Bruce Lee reached out to many black men and gave them the gift of the fruits of his labor...but still no respect given to the Asian community...so it's ok for them to exploit our women or culture to put money in their pockets, but when Asian men want to rap, they call them fake? Fuck that...Besides, the first breakdancers weren't black, a lot of them were Latin Americans...Look up the first graffiti artists, etc...Look up yellow magic orchestra...A Japanese electronic group that heavily influenced the creation of rap music...I see what you're saying, but I was raised with and around black folks, I lived with them, shared life with them...I know many of them do not respect Asian men...sorry...so even if we invented the wheel, they'd say they came up with the circle that the wheel was based on and tell our women that we aren't good enough for them...Koreans made rapping an art once again...better than anyone could.
Golden Modem You're addressing a LOT of points that, respectfully, had nothing to do with my response and I'm even going to begin to get into all of them. You are forgetting moments in Black/Asian history, however, where they were united in protesting systematic racism during the Civil Rights movement. It's nice that you grew up with Black people, but I AM Black, and as a Black person who's been to China and has been studying the language and culture for a decade, I understand a good amount about what you're saying. With all of that being said, Hip Hop's origins are rooted in Black struggle and that can not be refuted. I'm not going to get into the reverse racism aspect that some Black people have towards Asians (you also failed to mention how Asian people, generally speaking, are racist towards Black people ESPECIALLY when it comes to relationships/reproduction, which is a serious problem) because that's not the subject of this conversation. There's better ways to get your message across other than implying that Hip Hop is not about the Black community, because it totally is. There would be no Hip Hop without the Black community. Maybe this wasn't your intention, so I thought I'd just point it out so you know how some people may take it. Again, peace always.
Hip hop dance is the interpretation of Chinese Martial arts...Hip hop culture is Asian culture, remixed...
