I am a former police officer that fell into drug addiction and developed PTSD. I have been listening to this since my recovery journey began…..popped up on my feed randomly. Recovery is a extended “Hell Week”. You get stripped down to nothing and you run the “Hell Week” alone. You do have to be wired differently to succeed and your addiction never stops tying of thinking of some different way to get you to use or drink again just one more time…..it’s a demon that wants to kill you. I got raped by a man at 16, I never disclosed it to anyone. I would start drinking and using pretty heavily when college started about two years later. God isn’t the reason I am alive…..it’s all me. I don’t know how not to keep going. Addiction among cops is more common than people talk about. When alcohol wouldn’t numb the pain, I switched back to an old “friend”. I used to be ashamed of being an addict cop. I am just brave enough to admit it and talk about it. Anyone that says something disparaging aboutI me is just hiding the fact they have their own substance abuse problem. Truth. We do recover. Can’t stop me.

I was in BUD/S in the mid-90s and quit in 3rd phase on the Monday before my class went to San Clemente. Prior to my DOR I had been thinking about quitting for a couple weeks because I'd already had so much invested in the program. However, I realized that I simply didn't want to live the life required of a SEAL. I wish I had learned that much earlier, but at that time very little information was available about the Teams. Part of me regrets that decision, but it was the correct one because my heart was no longer completely in it and that could have gotten someone hurt or killed.

Seeing this after the dream I had last night is trippy. When I was in I quit on myself and more importantly the men around me. I let everyone down by not maintaining perfection and as a result someone got hurt or was put in a bad spot and had to work harder to fill the gap I held, I dont know. Higher ups didn't send me with them. Went through all that training and time during the fleet to one day just not caring. Must have been depression or I was an idiot idk. Sorry
