It's not sanitized if it's dry and open. Not a big deal though
Dude, we can see the liquid backflowing in your hose as your connector valve is faulty and the pressure in hose is lost every time you disconnect it. Keeping up the supply pressure and having it connected while shaking and simply disconnecting when gas flow reduces is a better option to prevent backflow.
Can I bottle after carbonating cider this way?
Can I Bottle into glass bottles with caps after this process and still retain the carbonation?
Why was the volume of liquid less than carbonation, when you poured into glass? Thank you in advance.
I had no idea those carbonation caps existed for use on a pop bottle. Thanks for the video!
how long can I keep the cider for?
They make a product called beer gas which has some nitrogen mixed in with the co2 to make it less foamy.
hi new subscriber here i was wondering how much yeast u would need for 5 uk gallons of cider and what yeast u would recommend for 5 uk gallons
US brewer here, but the dry Safale packets at homebrew stores hede are 5-7g I believe. Should be plenty.
After I bottle my cider, I place the bottles in a fridge. What temperature should the fridge be?

If you didn’t take an initial reading with your hydrometer, can you still get an approx % alcohol?
I have the same question
Thanks for the video.
I presume you take the reading before you add the yeast, is this correct?
Yes.
Will this work for Mead?
Good video
Can i store large amount of cider into a plastic keg without carbonating it with no air lock ?
Does anyone know how long you can "age " it before you bottle? Thanks.
I don't know if there is a limit to how long you can age but the fermenter must have very little headspace and an airlock at all times. One issue people run into is they forget to check the airlock and it dries up, then contaminates get in.
@@homecidermaking7360 thank you so much for the reply. Still working on my first batch ever
Super vidéo frere❤️
Thanks for showing us how to make a bomb
if i want to make with this method a strawberry soda? all i want is a strawberry juice instead apple ??
I don't see why you can't..this process is similar to soda stream machine they been selling everywhere, but cheaper
Hello, don't know if you're still watching this comment section (hello from 2020) but I had a question: How would you acquire more head?
I love jenga
After the co2 is dissolved into the cider, can you remove the charging cap and replace with a normal screw on cap?
Yes
What happens if you leave the bottle in the fridge over night at 30psi., I want the carbonation to be like a sparkling cider, great video by the way just what I needed to see Thanks for your help and keep them coming!👍👍
Will be making my first hard cider using your method. I’ve watch a bunch of videos and I had a question. Some people will pasteurize the racked cider after adding the sugar. Is there a reason you don’t? Won’t the bottle explode?
So to replicate this i'd need a) a carbonator cap that fits onto the 2 litre plastic bottles I use b) a ball-cap connector, c) hose d) regulator and e) co2 tank? Is there anywhere you know of where I can buy all of that together to make sure it's all compatible with each other?
They're all on Amazon for about $110 total, and they're all standardized sizes. Regulators have a standard diameter to attach to the CO2 tank output. The hose has a standard diameter to attach to the regulator's output. CO2 quick connect adaptors have a standard diameter to attach to the male end of the 2L bottle adaptor.
@@user-qjvqfjv thanks! I've progressed and now have a dedicated brew fridge with 4 corny kegs in it, and do my force carbonation in there :) but thanks for taking time to answer.
This is great, I'd been thinking about a carbonation cap for my home brew beer but thought i'd need to leave it for a day or two. Giving it a few shakes is much better, I can do a whole batch of beer (10x2 litre bottles) in one go. Like you i'm limited for space so was looking for a solution that didn't need a keg. This is perfect.
How long for the cider to clear or dus it stay cloudy
Hello. Where can I buy a complete kit to start making my own hard cider. It’s very hard for me to figure out what’s good and what’s not. What’s needed and what’s not. Can anyone recommend ? I need to be able to make 10 gallons for each batch max. Thanks in advance. Cheers from Portugal
You want two 5 gallon buckets (food grade) with airlocks and your ingredients eg, apple juice. Yeast. Sugar.
Mr Donoghue thank you. I was hoping for a turnkey kit I can just plug in and start experimenting. Thanks anyway
João Pereira try craft-a-brew. You get a pretty complete kit
Dude! Love your videos and your inclusion of recipe and steps in your info below the video. Gonna give this a try! I am new to home brewing and been a bit afraid to get started. Your step by step process makes it super simple to follow. Thanks so much. I look forward to more videos. Cheers 🍻
Great vid- thank you fellow human
How dose the bottle filler/ syfener not suck up any of the sediment at the base of the fermentation jug ?
If the yeast is dead what is carbonating it
Cool, does the auto siphon prevent yeast and sediment from getting into the pipe?
So is this without adding sugar to the juice or after adding sugar. Thanks
I just picked up a carb cap the other day before watching this video. And I'm curious is it difficult for you to attach your ball lock to the cap? For some reason mine seems to be a bit snug and find myself having to force it which doesn't seem right (doing this often is a tad annoying when you're making a lot of seltzer and not a homebrew). Looking for advice/opinions. Cheers
If you already haven't found a solution, try hooking you gas line on unpressurized first. Then turn your CO2 knob.
At what temperature was the growler stored at?
I clicked on all the links but cant find the one bout the carbonator cap. ???
My Dad made hard cider back in the fifties and 60's and he never carbonated it.they made it in big oak cider barrels.they never used hydrometers either. Was that a different hard cider?
can you do this with wine?
Yes, you can use this process to carbonate wine, beer or even make sparkling water.
@@homecidermaking7360 thank you, sir
if u levae it to set how lon and if u leave it too long will it bust
Where does one get a CO2 tank?
I get mine from a home brewing supply store now but I have used a welding supply stores such as AirGas too.
@@homecidermaking7360 does welding co2 save to use?
can you tell me more about making a sweet cider without back sweetening? its all about the OG and FG right, start at with a OG of say 1050 and finish with a FG of 1020? if you want say 5% to 6% sweet apple cider?
It's really more about the yeast. If you start with 1.050 SG, most strains of yeast will be able to take that to 1.000 SG if you don't intervene. The only time yeast will stop on its own would be if you maxed out its alcohol tolerance, generally 8-14% ABV but this is even a guessing game sometimes. 1.050 OG to 1.020 FG would result in about 4% ABV but to achieve this you would have to inhibit or remove the yeast to stop fermentation. But, killing yeast during active fermentation is very hard. The better solution is to ferment to dry or about 1.000 SG, stabilize the cider and then back sweeten to your desired sweetness.
@@homecidermaking7360 Cant you just pasteurize your brew to stop the fermentation tho?
Now I don't know much about brewing yet, but I know a bit about chemistry. The ability of a liquid to dissolve a gas within itself is temperature dependent; colder liquid can hold more gas. Wouldn't it be more efficacious to do this with the cider chilled?
Indeed.. colder liquids will absorb the co2 quicker/more efficiently.
Super late reply, but yes. Standard practice is to chill to 32-35F then use a CO2 volume/solubility chart. When I worked in a brewery we usually aimed for 9.5 PSI at 32F which is about 2.63 volumes of CO2. The volumes of CO2 desired is beverage dependent, I think ciders may be usually on the lower side. Zahm and Nagel produces many of these charts and tools to measure volumes of CO2 but are super expensive and do not make sense for homebrewing (the tools, you can google the charts).
A++
Did you have to do anything extra to the half gallon after the three weeks to carbonate it just open and enjoy? I see where some methods require pasteurization?
