Learn to Make Harry Potter Fondant Cake Decorations
This video is older BUT I hope you respond! Does this dry? I have a wedding coming and it has sashes down the front. I usually stack cakes when I arrive and add final touches. Is this something I could make ahead and bring with me for set up or does it dry hard?
Hi there! Thank you for leaving a comment on my RUclips channel. Yes, the edible silk fabric does dry stiff, not as stiff as a gelatin or rice paper sail, though. It is somewhat flexible. You can definitely make them ahead of time. Maybe wrapped them around a cake dummy to dry so they will have the correct curves in them. Hope that helps! Patty
Would reeeealy love to have that bc recipe !!! ❤
Please post your buttercream recipe. It looks fabulous!! Thank you
This was so helpful and thank you so much!!! I have a wedding in November and going to start on the flowers in Sept!!! Def saved video!! :)
Awww, wonderful! Glad the video was helpful for you. 😊
Loved this tutorial thank you. Just wondering what happens with the paper on bottom disk when you transfer to cake board please. Does it stay attached to cake?
Hi Eileen! When you take the bottom disc off, slide the off set spatula between the cake and the parchment paper to release it. Or if the parchment paper is still on the cake you can quickly flip the cake upside down and peel the paper off. Any dents from doing so can be smoothed out with a hot spatula. Hope that helps!
@@Patdif Thank you.
will you share the buttercream recipe
I really your teaching and technique, slow explanation helps a lot. I love your video and am subscribing now. Thank u
Awesome, thank you!
Hi what recipe did you use for your buttercream, it looks lovely
What size of the cake disc do I need for 8 inches cake.?
I use American buttercream almost exclusively. Not a big fan of any of the meringue buttercreams. Do the discs work as well with a stiffer buttercream like American?
Could you make a video where you show how you wrap, box and ship your flowers. And maybe how you decide to price the flowers 🌺
Thank you, that was really helpful ❤

Super helpful thanks!!
Lovely thing to do x
Hello, and thank you! Would you mind posting a link to that buttercream recipe, please?
Thnk you for this video 😊
You are welcome! Glad it helps!
I watched the Piping techniques video. It was very helpful. Is that the only piping tutorial you have?
Yes. I do specialize in fondant and sugar flowers. If you are interested in receiving more information about those topics, please visit my website at www.pattydifondi.com
Does this recipe work for everything? What changes need to be made for upright flowers and also for writing/leaves, etc.
Hi D! It's a pretty sturdy recipe so you can use it to practice flowers also. For writing and piping, I would add just a little water, a tsp at a time to get the right consistency. Hope that helps!
@@PattyDiFondiLearnCakeArt It says it is epidose 3 and that this will be used to practice in the next episode. I am wanting to learn how to use the Wilton tips using this recipe. Do you have videos specifically for that? Thanks for your time.
@@dmiller1577 Yes, there is the next video for practicing piping. Here is the link >>> ruclips.net/video/uqZyxAnYlf0/видео.html

This has been the most helpful acrylic disc video yet. I tried using them without the parchment paper and it wasn’t a good idea LOL. Do you always use a cake card and cake board?
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Liz! I do always use a cake card under the cake.
Could you please give us a link as to what size/kind of balloons these are and where to buy them? I cannot find anything that small, smallest is 7" and if only blown a little, it leaves a "pimple" at the bottom, not totally rounded like yours. Thanks and blessings!
Hi Vivian! I use water balloons. I find them at the dollar store or on Amazon. They are very inexpensive. If you get a nub at the bottom, blow the balloon up only partly, then after tying the balloon, tie the top to the bottom nub. That should give you a more rounded balloon. Hope that helps! Patty
@@PattyDiFondiLearnCakeArt oh Patty, thanks so much!! You're great!!:) so I guess they are just one size??
@@vrobaldo yes
Very helpful video❤️
I'm glad it helped!
Lovely work ❤️
Thank you!
Can I leave out the corn syrup?
Hi Ogechukwu. The corn syrup helps prevent the buttercream from crusting so it's easier to reuse. You can substitute golden syrup, glucose syrup or food grade glycerin for the corn syrup. I know some countries do not have access to corn syrup. Hope that helps! Patty
@@PattyDiFondiLearnCakeArt hi Patty. Thank you for your recipe but do you think I could use a margarine that keeps it's firmness ? I have used a small amount with regular butter to keep the buttercream stable and it worked well. Also can store bought honey also work instead of corn syrup? It's difficult to find any of those ingredients you suggest where I am💔
@@liveandletlive7152 You're welcome! Yes you can use honey as a substitute for corn syrup. Margarine would most likely make the buttercream softer but you can try!
Your buttercream looks so yummy any chance of sharing your recipe. Thanks on advance
Hi Deb. The buttercream recipe is in the comments. It’s the first comment I believe where I added the recipe. Enjoy!
i wish you would of added a picture of them all done :)
Hi Angela. If you look at the end of the video it does show the finished decorated puppies. Hope that helps!
Is it possible to shear the buttercream recipe please and thank you I want to try this method I have issues getting a smooth top on my cake although I am a beginner and impatient one at that. Thanks again love from Australia 🇦🇺

Your voice is so nice
Thank you, Kayla! That's sweet.
How long time sould be use it, and may I keep case it in refrigerator??
Normastid, the buttercream does not have to be refrigerated. As long as it is in a sealed container, you can leave it on your pantry shelf. It has a very long shelf life, just rewhip before each use to make it more fluffy and smooth.
Beautiful work .Thank you for sharing ❤👏
Thank you, Imnaz! Glad you liked the video!

Can I use gel food coloring, or the powdered food coloring (from The Sugar Art) on this?
Hi Victoria. Yes you can use gel colors in the practice buttercream. I have never tried the powdered coloring in it but I would take a small amount and give it a try. Hope that helps!
