Barrow Hill
In the late 19th century, odd things began happening on Barrow Hill, one of the largest hills in Nashville. It was believed that due to its history as a prison during the Civil War as well as a shootout between police and a bootlegger may have been the reason why it was incredibly haunted. From a headless woman to strange, unsettling sounds, Barrow Hill was believed to be one of the most haunted places in Nashville before the city grew and built over it.

Wow…just realized this site is about 9 miles from my home. If you search google maps/earth for the location, 2 Dell Pkwy, there’s an underpass that goes under the airport runway. All my life, anytime I’ve driven thru there, I honk my horn a bunch lol. Maybe I’ve been honking for all the dead souls from Central State. NEVER KNEW that was the site. Few years ago, I got pulled over there and pulled into Dell’s parking lot.

When I was an undergrad social work student at MTSU in the early 1990s, one of my associate professors was also a social worker a Central State. He would often talk about the history of the place but typically spoke of the horrible conditions there in the past tense and, on several occasions, spoke of putting together a visit and tour for his students to see Central State, but it never happened for whatever reason. Even around 1992, he was talking about how the facility would be closing in a few years and how a chapter of history would soon end.

My mom and aunt went to the plantation for a report they were doing. The tour guide told them Aunt Pratt wanted her portrait to be hung where she can see the cemetery in the back. Also, if a baby is heard crying, Aunt Pratt’s peace is disturbed and strange things will start happening while guests are in the house. They asks that you keep your children calm before entering.

I went to a church convention in Louisville, Kentucky in 2002. We stayed at the Galt House hotel, and there was definitely some unexplained activity going on there. The revolving doors to the entrance kept opening and closing repeatedly, although no one was walking through them. A group of friends and myself were standing near a small restaurant/bar that was inside the hotel. As we were standing there talking, I saw a black shadow standing behind the bar, which was closed at the time. It began to slowly move back and forth and I froze without saying a word. All of a sudden, my friend Jennifer looked towards the bar pointing and asked the group, “Do y’all see that?” Without a word, I took off running towards the elevator, and my friends followed. When we were on the elevator, Jennifer asked me why I ran. I told her I saw a black shadow standing behind the bar. Her eyes got really wide and big, and she said, “That’s what I saw!” In another incident the following day, the same group of friends and I took the elevator up to the top floor to explore a bit. At that time in 2002, the top floor was used for somewhat of a museum of some sorts, with items and pictures from previous years at the hotel. There were no rooms up there. A couple of us only stepped about halfway off the elevator while the rest stayed on with the doors opened. We began hearing strange noises like someone crying, but a deep moaning type of cry. It was distant at first, but started getting closer but we couldn’t see anyone. We ran back to the elevator, and went back to our rooms, and didn’t speak about anything that happened, until we left Kentucky! When I got home, I did a small bit of research and read that the Galt House hotel had been the scene of multiple murders, and multiple fires where people lost their lives. I apologize for the long comment, but I said all this to say, That place is definitely haunted!
