Saw it in theater in 1998 I was 16 and it was actually kind of scary and still don't think of this as a kids film, more like a comedy horror lol Still have the VHS in the giant plastic box too! I see reviews every day that I disagree with. That IGN review was a particularly bad take, but the thing that find more ridiculous is how upset people get when a game they like gets a bad review. We all know that not everyone will like what we like, but seeing it written down really riles a lot of people up for some reason. It's quite pathetic, honestly.

That review discussion is not the only case of damage control, as McCaffrey also showed up on Beyond's episode 363 for more damage control. This Alien Isolation review is a point in the line of how these large media sites aren't good at justifying their takes on media. I dove into this topic myself in one of my recent videos (ruclips.net/video/_RcyC5EzoeQ/видео.html).

Ryan's review may have dampened Alien Isolation's initial reception, but the game was still a slow-burn success and its sustained popularity meant it was eventually deemed worthy of a sequel. So not that much harm done in the end. It's a common misconception that this game is too hard. If you play it enough and become sufficiently familiar with it ignore the fear factor, it actually becomes pretty easy. A good horror game is one that scares you into playing badly I think. As for repetitiveness, I think this was a false complaint as there is plenty of variety in the design of the missions.

And reviews like this will never make me take reviews seriously. This game is a masterpiece.

The encounters near the end of the game. These are completed by very specific courses of action. You are essentially forced into a one-way, which is the only way. Your tool set, which you spent aquiring and upgrading through the game. Many of the tools are worthless because they are only meant to deal with one alien. If it was only of spots, that would have been fine to change up the dynamics. However, when it is every hallway you walk through and on every side. There is no way to avoid the linear pathway you must take. There are no alternative solutions for the actual ending.

The game was so good. STFU. I even barely died because I actually tried to avoid the Alien. I truly felt like you were the protagonist in an Alien movie.

In my Opinion Alien Isolation Was and Still is the best Alien Game available ! Today I play it mostly in VR Mod to be right there with my very own Alien Hunting me Down ! no matter how many times I Die in Game it is an absolute incredible experience in VR ! Ryan was butthurt because the game was 'too hard.' Well, duh! Sounds like he's never seen an "Alien" movie. Of COURSE it's supposed to be hard. Thankfully, earlier this month developer Creative Assembly has confirmed that a sequel is in development. If it were up to me, IGN would have to buy their copy.

Having beat the game twice...I think Ryan was right about one thing. I do think it was too long, I think easily 5 hours could have been shaved off and it would have been a much tighter better paced experience.

I'm sorry, but not everyone is going to have the same opinion. There isn't some magic consensus opinion that everyone must have. All a reviewer can do is honestly report their opinion. Take me (I'mnot a critic), for instance. Back in the day, I was a huge fan of first person shooters, but I belong to that minority of players that thinks Halo 1 is as dull as dish water. If I was a reviewer assigned the game, I'd have to give it a low score, because I didn't enjoy it.... and I know there's a fair number of people who agree with me, so I wouldn't be "wrong". There should always be a few rogue critics who have different opinions, because not everyone loved Star Wars or Godfather or any other masterpiece. I remember critics getting trashed for giving GTA IV a 7/10 because everyone else was giving it a 9 or 10... then a couple of years later mocking the glowing reviews when they decided a 7 or 8 was "accurate". On the topic of Isolation, I seem to recall a few reviewers who dropped the "too long" complaint, as they felt the game struggled to keep it's great concept going. I think Zero Punctuation criticized the diminished returns. A short game can be too long and a long game can feel too short. To use an example of a mediocre forgotten game, Wanted (based on the movie). The bullet curving mechanic is great... but the levels are so generic that it somehow ended up too long at less than six hours. First couple of hours were a blast. Anywho, my point is we shouldn't expect uniformity from reviews. There should be outliers. Every single one of us should have experienced the feeling of disagreeing with all of our friends on something. That game reviews are often so uniform is why I don't respect them, especially when you can tell many (especially RUclipsrs) are taking the temperature of the room before giving their review so their opinion is within accepted parameters.

The game is a masterpiece. It's not even like an 8/10 game that they felt was a 6. No. It's like giving Schindler's List a 5.9. It's like giving Terminator 2 a 5.9. They gave a masterpiece a 5.9.

I stopped watching IGN reviews years ago, so im not surprised they gave it a low score. They've proven they don't play games anyways.

The game was too long and the actual gameplay was barebones. The visuals and story were cool but poeple act like Isolation is a masterpiece when it just isn't.
