James! I am a Wingfield in the U.S.! We might be related.
That's cool. I don't know of any US Wingfields but you never know. Are you into sim racing too?
James Wingfield! We might be related! I am also a Wingfield.
35 minutes? Bro just give us a 2 minute video on tips to wake up your tires wtf
I hot lap from the off but never so I lose back end. I note turns when the front tires dont turn in. I then continue to practice braking earlier and trailing longer and or drop down a gear at those turns. Its qually so car is light. Cancels out cold tires. You just need to hit the corners correctly. To begin with you want the tires working best for Q lap 2. But sticking to this mentality you'll find your first lap get much quicker. Never over drive the tires. If the track is hot take it easy on out lap.
Interesting data collection. I also was looking at wear % through the tests. At what point does wear start to become a factor with lap time, as the laps with steering full lock, with burnout have a 4% drop compared to the 2% with just pushing the car 90%. I know that the intentions of this is for qualifying laps, but how much could it be a factor for full pace laps, where pace is limited? I would think that there may be more value on steering past the slip angle, so long as you can do it safely while pacing, but dont push it too hard to hurt the tire wear...
It will depend on the car. In the F3 the tyres will survive a whole race pushing at 100%. In an endurance race such as GT3 you can definitely benefit from stretching the tyres for double or triple stint lengths. In those cases it's usually a case of protecting the highest wear tyre, often FL at Silverstone or Watkins Glenn, or the outside rear at other tracks. For those it's usually about 30% life that the tyres start to struggle. If you're likely to reach that point then it's better to save the tyres rather than scrub or lockup during warmup.
Thanks. Only thing is that you probably want to start session over for every take because ambient and track temps can rise pretty quickly
True. It shows the principles though. I hope you find it useful. It might also be worth trying this again in something like a gt3 car that has live temperature readings on the dash.
@@jameswingfieldracing I thought they don’t bother updating the McLaren and other live tire telemetry on dash.
@@jinglesmcgee7256 The black box doesn't get updated but there are additional temperaturesensors for the gt cars that show on the dash
@@jameswingfieldracing the real cars do but if you look here there is no live tire telemetry on the dash ruclips.net/video/Ws9zSdVWfHY/видео.html
@@jinglesmcgee7256 It doesnt show in replay/spectator mode but it does show live for the driver. We just did the 24hr race at Spa in the Lamborghini and were using this to tell when the tyres were up to temperature.
I see now why the #15 car's right rear fender is flapping. I believe I met up with him on iRacing! :) Some great moves there James!
Haha, that was a bit of a rough block but in fairness I don't think he had seen me. I've had some decent races with him before. And most importantly I beat him in the end anyway 🤣
Good luck 🤞🏆
Ah thank goodness, a round that’s not too far away! I’m sure your previous experience at knockhill will keep you in good stead for pace and the race in general 👍🏻
Hmm... 454 miles for me and one of our lot is flying up. Still looking forward to it though and the scenery is amazing.
Nice video, bring on knockhill.
Looking forward to picking up where we left off. 😀
@@jameswingfieldracing haha definitely
Great to see Sparky helping.🐈😁
Thanks for sharing your build and views. I am the same when it comes to VR and I am planning a proper setup that starts with the VR system.
The oculus rift is a great starter but it's worth a look around as I think there may be some better options now, not least the rift S. It's an amazing experience though so good choice on going VR.
@@jameswingfieldracing thanks, I already have a quest 2 so im gonna use that or maybe If i can get it working I can use DJI FPV goggles as they do have HDMI in.
Hello! Great Video! How were you able to overlay the neurotracker software in your driving simulation?
Thanks Jack. At the moment it's all a bit piecemeal and goes through lots of different software packages. I've been looking into ways of simplifying it though so it would be possible to use more widely. Do you use Neurotracker already?
@@jameswingfieldracing Hey James, Thanks for the reply! I do use Neurotracker, what are the software packages that you use to achieve what's shown in this video?
A great overview on how to utilize cognitive training to expand attentional bandwidth for motorsport racing.
Thanks Lee. I'll post another video to update on how I've found it once I've been using it in this way for a while
I wondered about these mind training things and how they applied to racing. I found it hard to understand how you input results whilst driving but that makes it even more impressive. Thanks.
I've assigned a button to each number so just press the right one for each ball.
Thanks for the video James, I just about managed to put something together while watching this. Really helpful.
Glad it helped.i realised afterwards that I could have gone into a bit more detail about getting iRacing to create .mip files and where to store them.
Great stuff! 😁
car_spec_number.tga
Can you give me a example of how to save the spec map you said car_spec_Number?
Correct. If your id number was 123456 then the livery file would be "car_123456.tga" and the spec map would be "car_spec_123456.tga". Save that into your paints folder and it should load up correctly when you get into the car. At this point a "car_spec_123456.mip" file will appear in the paint folder and that's the one to upload to trading paints when you're happy with the spec map.
Thanks James!
Thanks. Check out some of the newer videos for some more info. I've some more ideas for future ones already, but if there is anything specific you'd like to see then let me know :)
Hi James, subscribed and waiting for that data analysis on the caterham, greetings!
Yes should be good. Hopefully I can use some new data from this year, as long as the test days happen soon.
Nice content James! Thank You!
Glad you like it. Let me know of there's anything else you'd like to see.
@@jameswingfieldracing mostly how to deal with data - Vrs telemetry shows where is speed difference but id like to know how to deal with it. Is there ane technique to diminish those gaps?
@@SimRacingEnthusiastJakub have you seen my data 101 video? That goes through a whole lap using each corner as an example to compare two laps.
Brilliant thanks! 😊👍
Good stuff James
