I didn’t know Andy Irvine’s guitar-bouzouki was in a guitar-shaped case. When I saw him at the Old Songs Festival in Guilderland New York, he carried it in a paddle-shaped case.
Absolutely amazing, such a talented man & so humble with it ❤
Go Gleoite deas, Tommy.. You haven't changed since the early days in Ascal Cnoc Sion.. I recognised you immediately from Fadó, Fadó. Stay Great. Damien De Barra
Splendid performance.
Superb rendition.
I'm goin in the woods with a stick. I'm goin by the stream just to sit. Isn't that what we all really want?
indeed
Brilliant explanation of this most beautiful instrument ❤
Wow! This is beautiful to honor Sinead and Shane 😢❤😊
Died of natural causes at 56... Go figure.
À cause du tabac, ma belle irlandaise fumait trop😢😢❤
You must have been on the stage !
I was sitting on his knee for the first part of the gig but I couldn't get the camera angle right so I had to get off for a bit. Sláinte, Fender
@@TheIrelandPodcast 😆
It's so awkward I'm dying 😝
Wonderful interview! I believe a former Celtic Woman lives in Gallway now. Eahba (Ava) You should come to the 2024 World Celtic Forum in September this year in Dublin County Balbraggin
Gorgeous sounding pipes ! May I ask who made them ?
Thanks Patrick. I can't remember if Tommy said in the interview or not. Check in the link in the description. It's an enjoyable listen.
my first uilleann piper teacher (:
That’s so cool ❤
love this type o singing
He’s a great piper and so is his son, Padraic. He has a very large repertoire of traditional dance tunes and song airs and a beautiful way of playing them. If not for men and women like Tommy, Neillidh Mulligan, Gay McKeon, Maire Ní Ghrada, Heather Clarke, and others who went all in for piping back in the 1970s the uilleann piping tradition and Irish traditional music would be much poorer for it, certainly. There were role models like Keenan and O’Flynn around too but it took a large, sustained, communal effort to bring the uilleann piping tradition to its current state, without much help from Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann or the dancing community.
Brilliant,love it ❤❤❤
Thanks Jorge. We do too. Enjoy.
Where can we listen to the whole tune ? 🎉
We didn't record the whole tune, just the intro. You can hear the whole conversation here which includes more music and chat: www.salthillmedia.com/theirelandpodcast/episode/9ed3bab4/29-tommy-keane-uilleann-pipe-player or you can go to salthillmedia.com and look for Episode 29. I keep coming back to It, its amazing !
fab interview 👌💖👏
Thank you Michelle. Appreciate the kind words.
Lovely - what instrument is that?
I didn't ask Andy that specifically - I should have! - but I am pretty sure it's a bouzouki. When Andy pulled it from the case I had to double check it as I thought it was a guitar. Later that evening Andy was playing his gig in Limerick and I could see him switch between this and his smaller Mandola. I'll quiz him about his instruments next time. 😉 Sláinte, Fender
@@TheIrelandPodcast Thanks - I have a Mando but my fingers are a bit fat for it these days
@@chrisbowler3251 Keep at it. There are people with larger fingers playing mandolin I am sure. 😉
It's a guitar bodied bouzouki
@@BlackVelvetIL That makes perfect sense. Thank you 👍
Great singing, as always with Andy. It's a new song to me.
Yeah, Andy explains the background to the song here: www.salthillmedia.com/theirelandpodcast/episode/9c8605f2/31-andy-irvine-bonus-extra-one-midsummers-day
