Our only real choice is to turn to the Self or to the mind and body, as the rest of the activities and things of life, down to the most minute detail is ordained. All the masters say the same thing: but to elaborate more and make it as clear as possible this is what Ramana said: “The Ordainer (God) controls the fate of souls in accordance with their predetermined destiny. Whatever is destined not to happen, will not happen, try as you may. Whatever is destined to happen, will happen, no matter what you do to prevent it. This is certain. The best course is to remain Silent (and accept whatever comes).” Ramana later clarified this statement indirectly commenting on the idea of free will, which is tied to association with individuality and the ego and stating that this form of free will lasts as long as the ego lasts, and said, “It is true that the work meant to be done by us will be done by us. But it is open to us to be free from the joys or pains, pleasant or unpleasant consequences of the work, by not identifying ourselves with the body or that which does the work. If you realize your True Nature and know that it is not you that does any work, you will be unaffected by the consequences of whatever work the body may be engaged in according to destiny or past karma or Divine plan, however you may call it. You are always free and there is no limitation to that freedom…Freewill is the present appearing to a limited faculty of sight and will. I will finish this book (really not a book but Pure Consciousness) and another in the next few days, and then once again it seems there will be a forced sabbatical from recording again....but one never knows....all per destiny and grace.
