Liquid Was flexing MG-REX, but it wasn't designed for ground warfare. All those weapons are for close-range defense or path-clearing. If it were to be ambushed from afar with rockets, it'd be pretty easy to take down. But the intent was for it to scale terrain far from its target, then work it's long-range railgun magic. So yeah, not a great idea to trap yourself in it while an experienced soldier with mid-range ballistics (and a guy that got Samus' pulse cannon somehow) put up a fight.
