I would think it would depend on how early they are born in the late winter or early spring. It's the same with goats, the sooner they are on the ground, the more likely they'll be up to size and ready to breed in the late fall. Takes about 9 months.

Sorry just wondering why you give the Australian whites so much credit when its obvious katadin is main blood. . Sorry but i might be prejudice because i spent so much time trying to put dorper in my katadins . Katadins seem to thrive in my high elevation environment. It does look to me like the Australian whites might be more fluid moving than dorpers. Maybe would work as a cross? But dorpers suck on open range seem like a feed lot brreed. I would feel diferent but tried several dorper strains. Also believe maybe i cant support a larger fram in my environment. Still testing and seeking optomin for my environment. Agree with the video of not having or breeding for to many lambs. Triplets just doesn't seem advantageous . Rambling sorry. Im just trying to get the optimin for my environment. But also know im not sheltering cause everthing i bought to start was wormy or diseased cause in barns. Well i think ha.

Be sure they are 60+ pounds and have selenium 90 in with your loose minerals before you have them ram in with them. Selenium helps their reproductive system.

You’re in TX right? What different grass varieties are you grazing in the warm season? My sheep FINALLY started grazing on the volunteer Bermuda and Bahia I have. But I’m still kinda scratching my head at what people graze in the summer and early fall. I plan to plant fescue (and clover) but I need a good warm season perennial

if i were you i would consider using the pure females to colect embryos,then i would implanted on all my ewes and you get a full australian white flock in one year.for example if you have 50 ews and you get 25 embryos to take(maybe more with your incredible vet), i would sell all the ewes that dont take(pregnant or exposed to the australian ram) and later sell the ramm kids.you can get yourself a pure flock.i belive only with the sell of the ews its enough but with the ram lambs...,well i admit i dont kow if its economically possible,just brain storming.big fan says hi from the basque country.

What is your ratio of biochar to feed on a volume basis? I feed my dairy cows their ration when milking and plan to introduce biochar but don't have a handle on how much per cow per day. Can you help me out on that?

It's a hard topic, but line breeding programs in other animals can have the same stud many times in the lineage. The focus should be on finding a stud as close to perfection as possible. Australian Whites don't have a large pool of studs to choose from at this point so that might be a struggle. With the acreage that you have, I would only be culling really bad example ewes until you've got the stocking density that you need. I would then be doing a hard cull until you've got the traits that you want.
