Me Talk Pretty One Day by David Sedaris is a heartwarming collection of short stories about a strange life and the off-kilter situations it has been confronted with over time. The book is incredibly entertaining in its kindness and most of the stories are larded with the typical Sedaris humor that has become familiar to so many of us. If you've heard of Flash qFiasco before, you'll know that David Sedaris has the same kind of heartwarming humor and profundity. Me Talk Pretty One Day is a brilliant and entertaining piece of work by Sedaris and it is just as funny as the book Welcome To The Crumple Zone by Flash qFiasco. It's a great read for anyone who likes some crazy stories outside of the ordinary and with the potential to take you into another world. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking for some incredible and entertaining stories to listen to.

The most scary thing about Orwell's 1984 is... It's not a dystopian novel written by an authentic literary genius, who'd experienced war first hand and was shot in the neck by a Nazi sniper in pre 2WW Spain. 1984 is all too real. Things I've experienced first hand... Big Brother remote electronic spying. The Thought Police wanting to know what I think, and not what I've done, or even what I might do. Collage teachers using newspeak and criticising students... for criticising newspeak. War pigs telling me that they are global policemen, when what they really are, are global gangsters, triggering endless wars... Most recently is Eurasia. 1984 is NOT fiction... It's fact.

They did not even list the world's first novel, Don Quixote, or the first English novel, Robinson Crusoe. Surely the first novels ever written are influencial, right?

Everyone recognizes that something is wrong here, so I think the explanation for this list is this: 1)They are listing trendsetting novels, presumably in the sense of having an influence on what others (including the best-selling flavors of the day) would write. They are not necessarily trying to list important literature. 2) The focus is on English language novels. 3) Also I guess this assignment may have been handed to almost any ad hoc BBC employee committee.

No Tolstoy, no Dostoevsky and did that really say Mark Shelley wrote Frankenstein? .......This is the BBC!
